Adhyayan Suman: I can be an obsessive lover

Like other star kids, did you also feel a lot of pressure to make a mark in Bollywood?

Of course! There was a lot of pressure on me being a star kid till sometime back. The eyes are always on star kids. When an outsider does a movie and gives a mediocre performance, people are like oh wow, that's a performance! And when a star kid gives a good performance, people are like 'Naah, he is not as good as his father'.

Do you still feel the pressure?

Nah! My life has changed a lot in the last four months. I did Heartless, a film which is quite close to my heart. The movie was quite a difficult journey that my father and I had to undertake. Unfortunately, it didn't do well at the Box Office, even though it was critically acclaimed. I wanted it to do well because of emotional reasons, and not because it should earn 100 crores and make me a star. I don't care about being a star right now. It was a movie which was dedicated to my brother, who is unfortunately not with us anymore. The film's fate at the BO sent me back into depression. I was depressed after Jashn didn't do well, and I was sitting at home idle for a long time. Heartless was my only hope. I remember, I went down on my knees and begged to God, 'How could you do this to me? How could you take away that one thing from me?'. It wasn't just a film for me and my family. My father had put in everything he had into the making of the film. After all this, I went into that dark space again. There was a question mark on my career. But after four months, I got this courage and convinced myself to bounce back. The moment I became friends with God again, things started to change.

What kind of changes?

After mending ways with the Almighty, I got the movie Ishq Click, which I have just shot for, then I got Lucknowi Ishq, then there is a film which my dad is making, and another titled DNA Of Love. I have a total of seven films in hand. More than getting the films, I now have a lot of peace of mind. At the end of the day, everyone wants to work with big banners, but if you don't have them, you got to do the work you are getting, and I am doing just that. It makes no difference to me now, when I read things about me -- that I am finished or I don't have a career in Bollywood. Har insaan ka waqt aata hai, aur inshallah mera bhi aayega.

How did your dad (Shekhar Suman) react to failure?

My dad was like, 'Adhyayan you are crying for two films of yours not doing well, what about Mr Bachchan, whose 13 films flopped and he still carried on? So, my dad has been quite an inspiration for me. I never had to look outside for any sort of support or to idolize anybody else, because for me my father is my idol. He has that never-give-up attitude. Imagine, he had to go on the sets the next day after losing his son and that too for a comedy serial, Dekh Bhai Dekh. He had to, because that was his job and if he didn't do his job and made people laugh, he wouldn't have been able to feed his family.

Do you have any memories of your elder brother who passed away?

I was very young when he passed away. But yes I do remember that he loved playing video games as he couldn't do much physical activity due to his illness. When he used to go to sleep, I would play his video games, and he would scream from the other room, 'Adhyayan leave my video game right now!'. I also remember that he wasn't allowed to eat too much and he told me, 'Mummy papa mujhe ice cream nahi de rahe hain, kya tum mere liye le aaogey?' I sort of ran to the market because my brother had asked me for an ice cream. My family and I are still not over him, and I don't think we ever will be, especially my mom and dad.Even when we are sitting and eating food together, my dad says that my brother is watching us. I feel that the reason that I have been able to survive all the odds in my life so far is because he has been my guardian angel. He has been looking after his younger brother.

You have also made news for your relationship with Kangana Ranaut in the past. Are you single now or committed?

As far as discussing this relationship is concerned, I think it happened a long time back, when I was a child. Things have changed. I am single right now and my only focus is on films. But at the same time, I am a man who has always believed that career and love can go hand in hand. I want to get into a relationship; I am a diehard romantic. I can be an obsessive lover, I can be crazy in love. I have been a loyal boyfriend. I love been in love, I am not in love right now.

Why do starkids keep moaning? Unlike outsiders, they get numerous chances to prove themselves. Outsiders rarely get opportunities, and if and when they do, it's do or die!

If he wasn't a starkid, no way in hell would he have gotten Raaz 2. Instead, someone like Shaad Randhawa would've bagged the part (and done a better job at it too).

Who is this joker? And I disagree..outsiders like Srk and PC get bashed by critics when they give a bad performance. So don't understand what this joker is talking about.

Seems like sour grapes...because he couldn't make it big even though he's an industry's child.

I googled him..he is a good actor. I loved him in Jashnn: the music within. Film was good too.

Yes, I've heard that Jashn was good. Adhyayan was decent in Raaz 2, but he didn't get many offers after Jashn flopped.

What happened to Heartless? I remember seeing him and his daddy dearest on CNWK promoting the movie. The trailer was so dumb/freaky so I didn't even check if the movie worked at the BO or not. :/

He is a nice actor I guess.
