Even though most of the pre-release buzz about this year's mega Christmas release, Dhoom 3, is bring driven around Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif; the resident cop (ACP Jai Dixit) of the franchise, Abhishek Bachchan is extremely secure and confident about his role in the film.

Indatimes.com caught up with Abhishek Bachchan to find out his take on the evolution of Dhoom and why Dhoom 3 is a little different from the first two films.

How do you compare the three films in terms of their mood and vibe?

For me, Dhoom, Dhoom 2 and Dhoom 3 are three different films. None of us had ever imagined that Dhoom would become this monster franchise.

I remember Adi saying that 'let us try to redefine the action genre, and make something that's young and cool, with good songs and bikes'. We never thought there would ever be a sequel. Adi wanted to try something new, we were three young guys who were trying to make it in the industry. And like the line goes 'tukka lag gaya' (we got lucky).

Dhoom was a classic, cops and robbers, caper film. The Good Vs. Bad plot was almost like arithmetic. When that did well, we decided to amplify it. So from Goa we moved to Rio De Janeiro, the star cast got bigger and we added an element of emotion.

You see, Dhoom was almost borderline frivolous and very unabashed and devoid of emotion in its screenplay. It wasn't serious. There's a robbery; a thief who can't be caught and then a super cop is called in and later there is a chor-police chase.

That base is consistent in all three films.

But in Dhoom 2 we introduced romance in the form of Sunheri's (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) character. Now seven years later, if we had repeated the same thing people would be like come on guys, give us something more'.

Dhoom 3 is a bit darker, edgier and we have for the first time given the villain a very strong emotional reason for doing what he does.

So in that sense Dhoom 3 is the most non-Dhoom film of the three.

In the first two films you were facing contemporaries, but this time your antagonist is a senior and a huge star. So was it different for you to take on Aamir Khan, as compared to the experience with Hrithik Roshan and John Abraham?

For Jai Dixit they are all equal (laughs). You are bad I will catch you 'aur tumko dhoyunga main'. So that's how you have to see it as a character, and accept the challenge.

You have worked with Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan in back to back films. And you have also observed your father's working style on a professional level. So is there some trait you find that is common to these huge stars?

They are extremely humble and enthusiastic towards their work. That's the common thread.

Off the set they are big stars and they carry themselves the way they want to. But on-set they are not stars, they are just working to make the best possible film. And that is really refreshing!

When you are acting with seniors there is always that respect, but when you see them working like normal actors, it is very heartening.

Is Abhi working against the film..that is the stupidest thing to say..It is a franchise which is loved.
I think Kat too has been voicing some misgivings..She seems so cold towards the film..

This Dhoom seems to have potential to rope in family audience also apart from just youth. Father-son relationship, some pain suffered by the villain at a young age and general sorrows of these circus artistes that they hide etc. type stuff could have been used here.

I don't think the film is will be ruined. These things like baap ka badla or doing something to overcome personal conflict click very well with audience.

Earlier audience rooted for villain just because he was hot, now they'll root because they'll have empathy with him.

The team clearly has a winner on their hands.
