Why did Dil Se flop at the BO?

It was a lovely movie with great songs. Wonder what went wrong exactly?

Why do most deserving movies flop at BO and undeserving movies become blockbusters? 😆

The same way Andaaz Apna Apna , Socha Na Tha and Awarapan flopped at the BO. 😔

It had a very dark theme, considering it was essentially a love story. Maybe if it had released today, it would have done very well...but back then, it was probably too 'different' for its times.

Actually it didn't get critical acclaim either. I personally loved the film, but it was not well received, by the audience or the critics. People were expecting a lot from the Manisha-SRK-Mani combo and the music was a huge, huge success, but the final product was a disappointment. Only Preity zinta benefited.

i never liked the movie Dil Se...i did not understand the story...but loved the songs...its disappointing that AR Rehman is loosing his touch...

But it was critically applauded by almost everyone.

Mani Ratnam had originally wanted Kajol to play Manisha's role, but Kajol had refused the film...she might have made a difference to the final outcome of the BO results of the film, who knows!

Manisha was so good in her role, I can't picture Kajol as Meghna after seeing her in that role. She's so Beautiful & graceful and I need to comment no more on her acting skills. I find her very underrated as an actress.

dil se was really boring..

I don't even remember the story of Dil Se since I was such a young child at that time. All I remember are the songs. The songs were so good! I l never get bored of those songs even today.

Because it was a great movie. Same goes for swades too. and this kinda movies hardly work on BO. for ex. virudhh,water, etc.
