SUMMARYKangana Ranaut Krrrish 3 look required designers to bring to fore all the skills of their job.

result, he ultimately chose rubber and latex. "Kaya's costume looks like a second skin. Hence, rubber and latex turned out to be the best options. We sourced the material from dealers in UK, USA and Hong Kong. My team members helped out by getting swatches of the fabrics for test. Keeping in mind the climatic conditions, we chose a more refined version of the fabric," added Miguel. After purchasing the material, it had to undergo color treatments.

Kaya's costume mania

Kangana Ranaut's outfit weighed 20 kilograms. After shooting under the harsh sunlight, she had to remove the costume and keep it in a dark AC room with a low temperature, to make sure that the material doesn't melt.

As rubber cannot be altered to fit into various sizes at a later stage, her costume was made in several sizes. Each outfit had a difference of half an inch, to make sure that she fits into Kaya's costume, irrespective of her weight gain or loss during the filming.

Special grungy heels, complete with spikes and studs, were attached to her costume to create an illusion of Kaya standing on her toes.

In order to keep the outfit clutter free and clean, the only accessory that Kaya sports in the film is a belt. Instead, the focus is kept on her nails, with two-toned colours and metallic finish tips, as she has a lot of hand movements in the fight sequences.

Kangana Ranaut required a minimum of 3.5 hours everyday to get dressed. A fine treatment, lacquered oil and special powder was used to help her slip into the costume and at the same time, protect the costume from dust. The entire suit was also oiled from the exterior to give it a full polished and shiny feel.

Did you know?

A special session was organised before the shoot, where a team from the US scanned all the costumes. The designers had to put together all the outfits in a stipulated time and the team would scan them to see how it looks on each of the character sketches on the computer, of course, including Kangana Ranaut.

Romantic dreams

Kaya's

wardrobe goes for a makeover in the romantic dream number,Dil tu hi bata. Kangana Ranaut's outfits in the song are a blend of edginess and femininity. The designer had to maintain the balance to avoid losing her personality. The outfits are a little edgy when compared to the flowy garments that you see in other dream sequences. The colour palette used was a mix of gold, red, black and white. Streaks of amethyst hues, which comes from the family of colors that is used for her main costume (electric gray), were also added to her outfit.

The idea behind Kaya's make up was to avoid making Kangana Ranaut look like a typical alien with strong eyes and dark make up. It was decided to drop the idea of keeping the make up bright or neutral, and eventually opted for metallic hues

A few strands of Kaya's hair come out from the sides, with an artistic puffy bouffant on top to add an additional

dimension.

The use of a white under eye pencil adds a dramatic effect

The hair is neatly twisted on the right side, with lots of mousse and pins to hold it tight.

The metal man

After working on Kangana Ranaut's outfits, Roshan called up Miguel right before Christmas last year and asked him to work on a unique metallic construction costume for Oberoi. "He wanted the outfit to have several metallic elements, without adding a robot-cop feel to it. We had discussions with the team, including art director Sabu Cyril. The process was similar to Kangana Ranaut's outfit, but this time, we were dealing with an outfit which had a hard base. It had a mix of metals like aluminum sheets, steel among others. The suit was put together by breaking several metals, moulding and welding the elements together. We got inputs from the martial art directors who were flown in from China to make sure that Vivek comfortably performs all the stunts," added Miguel. As the original metal suit weighed close to 30 - 40 kgs, an additional metallic suit made of PVC and a few metal-coated fabrics was

Hrithik Roshan in Bangalore, Oct. 7.

On The Front Row' this week, film critic Anupama Chopra talked to Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan about playing a superhero in India, how he and his director-producer father are still learning and why it's important he knows his own weaknesses.

Edited excerpts:

Anupama Chopra: Hrithik, what is the unique struggle of being an Indian superhero? Of course, we don't have the budgets or the technology that Hollywood does. But what are the other challenges? Is it also difficult because our superhero films have to be musicals?

Hrithik Roshan: There are innumerable challenges faced when we were starting off with "Krrish 3." First of all, he is a superhero who has to be Indian, so the film has to be shot in India. You can't have all the action indoors so you have to shoot outdoors. How do you shoot outdoors in India? It is just not possible because you can't control the crowds. Then came the budget restraints. So we had all those challenges. It was not a good business decision according to my Dad [producer, director and former Bollywood actor, Rakesh Roshan.] Cinema, for me, is more of a contribution. This is what we do to find little piece of immortality, I guess, in some way it's a responsibility. If we don't do it, then who will?

Anupama: I interviewed Henry Cavill for "Superman" and he said it's an incredible feeling to put the suit on. He said the suit holds an energy all of its own and people treated him differently when he wore it. What was it like that for you when you put the suit on?

Mr. Roshan: Absolutely. I was told by the doctors that I should not be doing this film. I should not be doing any action anymore in my life in fact because I had certain problems. But of course, I put myself back together and every single time I remember on the sets, if I had any kind of pain or any kind of issues, mental struggle or pressure; the moment I zipped up, things just changed. I felt unstoppable. I felt unbreakable.

Anupama: How has your working relationship with your father evolved over the trilogy? Are you still a student or are you now a collaborator who has an equally strong voice?

Mr. Roshan: Well, I think the best part is that we are both students. My father is constantly learning, constantly evolving. He works without any ego. In fact, he has no issues in calling my friends over and discussing his screenplay with them. Friends like Farhan Akhtar and Aditya Chopra, they often come and hear his screenplay and he is takes feedback from them. He is always looking for growth and of course whatever I have learnt, I have learnt from him.

Anupama: You call yourself a peaceful warrior - what does that mean?

Mr. Roshan: I often associate with those two words. I am a peaceful guy. I don't let my rules get violated. If something needs to be set right, and then I will go ahead and set it right, whether it's people or whether it's injustice. I don't believe in assuming things where people say something and you assume it was said in such a tone that you pick a fight. I left all that back in school. It seems very childish to me because there is no need for that. Life is about going towards happiness. There's always stress. We all going through stress as it is, why add to it?

Anupama: George Clooney said in an interview that when you're famous and successful, there are very few people to tell you that you are an idiot. Do you have people around you who can tell you that?

Mr. Roshan: I want to say yes. But now that I think of it, nobody has told me that I have been an idiot. Maybe I have just never been an idiot [smiles.] I want to believe that I have people around me in my life who will tell me the truth of how things are and I will always look for that because I believe those are the only ways through which you can grow, through positive feedback, through criticism which you have to understand is just a point of view and it doesn't hurt. Find out for yourself whether it works for you or doesn't.

Anupama: You describe yourself as a WIP - a work in progress. So how does a superhero try to better himself?

Mr. Roshan: A superhero is all about his super weaknesses. If you see every superhero, there is a Peter Parker for every Spiderman, there is a Clark Kent for every Superman and the list goes on. Being associated so closely with a superhero propels me even more now to find out what my true potential is. I sat down and listed out all the things that I would want to go through in this journey. All the things that are happening in my life, I have decided that I want to go through this because I want to see if I can overcome them or not. So then it becomes a game and I am enjoying the process. If I am down or going through some kind of a struggle, I just have to look at two things. One is, what would a superhero do, and the other thing is how am I going to make this an example for my kids?

Can't believe I am saying this but I think Shuddhi should come on or after January 26th 2015 as then there will be a good gap between the two films so that the promos of Shuddhi start from mid November onwards.

Meet Krrish 3's deadly mutants
Kangana Ranaut as Chameleon More Pics
Krrish 3 ses Hrithik Roshan take on evil mutants and save the world from destruction in his superhero avatar. Here's a lowdown on the new-age villains.

Chameleon Kaya ( Kangana Ranaut) is also known as Chameleon. And, just like the reptile that can change colours, Kaya has the power to transform into any shape she wishes to.

Rhinoman Rhinoman " a fusion of a human and a rhinoceros " uses the deadly sharp horn on his head to kill his prey. His body is as heavy as that of a rhino and he uses his size to his advantage when fighting with the enemy.

Antman Antman, who is half-human and half-ant, possesses the power to crush any object with his bare hands. His glowing red eyes signify the animal within. They say ants can carry weights 100 times more than their body weight and Antman bears testimony to this.

Frogman The Frogman uses his tongue to kill the enemy. He is a derivative of a human and a frog and his tongue is his sharpest weapon. He is mischievous and that is indicated by his envious green eyes.

Cheetahwoman Half-human, half-cheetah, she is a deadly combination of speed and sharp claws. No human can match her in speed, and she teleports like a ghost! Feral yellow eyes indicate a voracious hunter and nothing escapes her eyes.

Scorpionwoman Part-human, part-scorpion, she has claws as hands and a poisonous sting at the end of her long plait, with which she strikes. She shows her targets no mercy and can kill them in one stroke.

Director Rakesh Roshan says, "In the film, the mutants are called maanvar " a combination of maanas and jaanwar " and have been created by Kaal through an experiment. Being a superhero, Krrish has to fight these beings with unknown powers."

Krrish 3, produced by Filmkraft Productions, releases November 1.
