Why Madhuri, Aishwarya, Rani, Preity et al losing their originality? đ

When making a comeback it always is an existentialist dilemma for the actors, more so, female actors who had ruled roost in the past but now are finding it difficult to carve the niche in view of the paradigm shift that the industry has undergone, from the heydays when they ruled the roost. Presently Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta are passing through that face. They have had been the queen of the marquee in their prime, had to bow out on account of considerations in one form or the other and are now either trying to make a comeback or reclaim the position of dominance that they had in their heydays.

But the moot point is, do they need to imitate or do as the present generation of the actresses are doing? For the present generation of actors it is a question of finding a footing on the firmament so for they to do anything would not raise an eye brow, but when a Madhuri or an Ash, a Rani or a Preity Zinta does it indeed, it indeed raises eyebrows.
For a Madhuri Dixit while waiting for a comeback through GULABI GANG to do an item number in YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI to be in vogue was not at all required as she already is there before the fans on a daily basis through the dance item show on a television channel that she is hosting. At the prime of her career even when she had attempted sexual numbers as in 'Dhak Dhak' from BETA it oozed innocence, but that innocence is not to be found in this item number song from YJHD. In the same manner she also is doing a love making scene in DEDH ISHQIYA with Naseeruddin Shah, may be for the sake of boldness on the screen and to convey the message that she does not have a hesitation to do it, but it is not at all required, as when she did it in DAYAVAN there was a lot of criticism.
For Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to make a comeback through an item number, probably under the baton of Sanjay Leela Bhansali who gave her a HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM could also not be a correct tool to make a comeback, as when she bowed out after GUZAARISH for maternity leave she was at the top of her performance. She does not require an item number to make a comeback.
Rani Mukerji is also going through the same existentialist dilemma and what she did not do at the peak of her career, of exposing, enticing pelvic thrusts, exposure of the figure she did it in AIYYAA and rather ironically fans rejected her transformation. Rani had experimented with this in NO ONE KILLED JESSICA where she did not think twice before uttering cuss words, but Rani is a performer with finesse with an oeuvre of illustrious films of Hindi cinema and there is no need for her to join the league. Her originality lies in her chutzpah and she has to maintain it.
Preity Zinta also through her comeback tried to be adventurous and bold in ISHKQ IN PARIS but the experiment fell flat on her face, as for the audience the spunk that Preity carried was not at all manifest in IIP.
The point of the argument is that these actresses belong and represent a changing face of Hindi cinema, from the perspective of a female star, and for the change that they ushered in, they are held in high esteem. If they would also join what actresses 10 years younger are doing, it would dent the image that they have created. They already have made huge amount of money and should start out producing films on their own focusing on different kind of roles, which their peers in Hollywood are doing to continue to maintain the aura of their persona in the minds of their fans.
