For abetting the suicide which is the impression one gets from that letter. Hence, he was booked under IPC section 306.

What has gender got to do with it? It would be the same if reverse had been the case. Jiah would have been arrested for similar accusations and suspicions.

And yes, Jiya was at fault. She was wrong in trusting a knobhead like Sooraj who continued to give proofs of his being a MCP ( male chauvinist pig ) over and over but still she didn't kicked his a$$. In spite of fighting, she ended her own life. But we DO NOT know the intensity of trauma she was going through. No one commits suicide just for fun. It's not like, ''oooh he do not loves me anymore, i guess i should suicide. haha !". She must have been a lot hurt, both mentally and physically. She even aborted. Plus the accusation of rape and torture can not be taken lightly even if she first had physical relationship with Sooraj with her consent. I mean giving consent do not means he'll rape her. Maybe at one time she was not willing and he insisted and that resulted in raping. There has to be something really bad that forced Jiya to take such step.

Moreover, through her letter it's clear that Sooraj was a complete sham ! He should be punished not for ditching Jiya but for torturing and raping her. I don;t think Jiya lied in her letter. If she loved Sooraj so much that she committed suicide, she couldn't lie just to punish him. ( which she couldn't even see anymore )

But yes, no doubt Jiya was a fool to end her life instead of thrashing Sooraj.

@K..Sean: This is for all women who believe these laws are required for women. And don't assume men are assholes. Men are also sensitive and have love within them. How would you feel if someone said this remark about your brother? Or how would you feel if someone made a false case against your brother? Note that men and women always have to live together. A man has his mother and sisters and a woman has her father and brothers. So a discriminatory law is going to affect women also as much as men. Again I know that a woman makes these sinister ventures only when she is encouraged by her male relatives especially her father and brother. Thus men and women are involved in both sides.

Nice to see that the society is recognizing the gender biased nature of the laws.
