My hands look effeminate at times: Ranbir Kapoor
In his hey days, young Rishi Kapoor charmed his way through people's heart with his effortless dancing in his white dance shoes and fetching smile.
In fact, the tap dance he had done on the number Mil gaya humko saathi from the film Hum Kisise Kum Nahin (1977) was recreated recently in his film Chashme Baddoor.
So it is obvious that his son and the reigning super star Ranbir has taken a piece of advice from his father when it comes to dancing. "My dad taught me that when I am doing a song I must sing loudly as it gets easier," says Ranbir, who has just let himself go in the dance song, Badtameez Dil from his upcoming film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Ranbir accepts that the song was a bit tricky for him. "Badtameez Dil was a new kind of swing dance and then I was dancing after two years. Both my earlier films, Rockstar and Barfi were performance oriented roles where I didn't get the chance to dance," says Ranbir. "I am not trying to sound humble but I don't consider myself to be a good dancer because of my body structure.
I have long legs, I have tight hamstrings and my hands look effeminate at times. So I have to be that extra conscious while dancing," he says candidly. He further says, "But sometimes we actors get too much of credit which should actually go to the music composer, choreographer, cinematographer, costume designers, light men and other dancers. I am not saying that I am a bad dancer, I understand dance, I understand rhythm. But there is lot of hardwork put in by so many technicians, and finally you get what you see when it is finally edited." And Ranbir sums up saying, "But yes, it was hard doing this song like I said I haven't danced for a long time. Toh iss gaane mein maine apni poori bhadaas nikaal di."
