While Deepika Padukone has been seen donning Indian dresses for her big screen outings, it is her uberchic Cocktail image that the audience most associate her with. However, the actress is all set to go desi in the upcoming Sanjay Leela Bhansali film titled Ram Leela. Deepika will be wearing ghagra cholis. Insiders reveal that the actress carried off the look with ease but the clothes weighed her down. A source reveals that her lehenga that had a ghera of nearly 50 metres, alone weighed 40 kilos. Designer and stylist Anju Modi who has designed for Deepika in the film says that it was not so much about weight as it was about the gheras. "Sanjay and I were very clear about the look we wanted to give Deepika. So, while the lehengas had to reflect the royal lineage of the Kutch region, they also had to have a very contemporary feel as Ram Leela is not a period drama," reveals Anju. Talking about the traditional ensembles, she adds that they used silk mulmul to keep the weight to the minimum. "The fabric adds to the volume, but maintains the weight. So when Deepika swirls, the fabric comes alive. Also we used a lot of antique gold khadi print on the lehenga. For the choli we have used shaneel (velvet) to keep that rich flavour," shares Anju. The designer also reveals that Deepika has the perfect body to carry off the look beautifully. "No one else could have carried it as gracefully as she does. She is slim-waisted, tall and looks gorgeous in this avatar. Dressing her up in this style has been a dream come true," says Anju.
