Aishwarya Rai Making an October Comeback--Which Film Did She Choose?
Aishwarya Rai is set to make her return to Bollywood in October. Ram Gopal Varma has confirmed that Aishwarya will be making her comeback in Sarkar 3. It will be Aishwarya's first film back after giving birth to her daughter last November.
This information initially came from sources on the set of RGV's latest film (Bhhooo) who caught a glimpse of the working script for the third installment of the Sarkar trilogy. Varma confirmed that Aishwarya would be reprising her role as Anita Rajan, who at the end of Sarkar Raj is seen taking the place of Shankar Nagare (played by husband Abhishek Bachchan) after he was assassinated. The assassination storyline in Sarkar Raj puts an end to any speculation that Aishwarya might be making her return in a film opposite her husband (though flashback scenes and incredibly improbable plot twists can't be ruled out--this is Bollywood, after all).
The plot of Sarkar 3 is said to focus primarily on the previously unknown grandson of Sarkar/Subhash Nagare (Amitabh Bachchan). When Ram Gopal Varma was first shopping this script around in 2009, he wanted to cast Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Chiku (the grandson); but when Ranbir said no to the film, the project was shelved indefinitely. Now it's back in action and none other than Hrithik Roshan is being rumored for what would have been Ranbir's role.
Sarkar 3 is an excellent choice of comeback vehicles for Aishwarya; Sarkar Raj was one of her biggest hits and one of her best performances, and Anita is a strong role that will really show off Aishwarya's confidence. And she'll get to work with her father-in-law, which should help ease any discomfort she has at being back in front of the camera after so long an absence.
