Growing up, Bollywood has been my biggest source of escapism and entertainment. After a whole day of school, home-works and house-works, I patiently awaited for the time I could flip through the channels in my TV and engross myself in a movie or just watching promos. Waiting obsessively for a new movie has been another thing I remember fondly from my childhood.

That day has, however, gone, and I don't even know when it was that my interest in Bollywood almost dwindled to the point of nonexistence. I rarely watch Bollywood movies these days. I hardly even bother watching the trailers of the gazillions of movies that come out every year. And as much as I'd love to say it's Bollywood which has deteriorated in quality, I know it's not entirely true. In fact, in some ways, we have better directors making better movies now...it's just...I don't feel the same way about B'wood as I used to. Could be because I exposed myself to Hollywood and world cinema, a lot of which is better than most Bollywood films there are. In fact, I think my biggest connection to B'wood is this forum, which I mostly visit for the gossips and spice it provides.

So yes, a simple question to you Bollywood forum members - does Bollywood still hold the same place it used to in your life?

i have the exact same sentiments...i was once crazy over bollywood movies, songs, promos, actors etc...i remember i used to cut out pictures of SRK, Juhi, Madhuri, Salman, Aamir, Kajol, Karisma etc from newspapers my parents used to bring home, and make a collage out of them and hang up on my walls...whenever i went to india, i used to buy posters and put em up all over my room...i'd wait and wait for movies to come out and convince my parents well in advance to take us to the theatres to watch the big ones...magazines, newspapers, whatever i could get my hand on i'd have it...i loved reading about the actor's personal lives, their families, their new movies etc etc...i used to go to those bollywood world tours as well...wait for the awards...and now...i find out like 2 months later some movie released, that i had never even heard about lol...my only connection to bollywood is also this forum only...or the very few movies i see in a year...

i agree its not all of bollywood that ive lost interest in...but now its all about showbizz, making money, promotions, public appearances this and that...its just wayyy too much now...less talent, more show...even ppl like SRK, who i used to adoree back then is all about publicity now...pity!

media has taken over...bollywood = publicity now...

Great topic. b/c I thought I was the only one. lol

Bollywood isn't what it used to be. I've grown up watching bollywood in the 90s, and that says a lot. I don't think a kid from today could say oh, we're hooked on bollywood because they're probably not. I give props to the fanatics on this forum who I see defending their favs regardless because I honestly don't have the same likening for bollywood like I once used to. Bollywood used to be more innocent back in the day..even a cliche storyline would catch your attention because of the way it was depicted. A song with typical lyrics on romance or so would also show sparks...compare that to the stuff that comes out today & you're like mehhh.

Also, the actors and actresses. For instance, the Khans are still the top actors of bw..just goes to show you how many of the younger actors don't have the same potential to capture the audiences' attention. The only actor who stands out is Ranbir Kapoor (from the younger lot). & don't even get me started on actresses. The actors still have some competition..but the actresses? they have none. Some are alright, others just suck.

& I'd also like to thank this forum for showing me how bollywood really isn't innocent..😆..and maybe it never was ..but at least what I saw onscreen was much likable than the wannabee-ish stuff I see now.

I've pretty much lost all my passion for Bollywood. There was a time I could watch back to back movies but now I find it hard to sit through even half a film. The only ones I can stand to watch on screen is Abhay and Ranbir. Maybe it was just a bad year. The only movies I enjoyed in recent times were ZNMD, Agneepath. YPD and MBKD were kinda entertaining too.Senseless but entertaining.

Nope, not really. I used to be crazy about bollywood so much so that my lil bro called me the bollywood dictionary! lol cause I knew so much about the stars. For some reason, I kinda lost interest in the hindi film industry, and thus don't really visit india forums as much, and I used to :( . I hope that good movies come out, so I can be interested in bollywood as much as I was earlier lol. I think another reason, I don't really like reading the news about the stars anymore is cause I realize that a lot of it is fake and over-exaggerated, and it's becomes super annoying to read fake news. I wish the media became smarter and realized the readers are much smarter now, and want to read some real news, and not the same repetitive news.

For some reason it holds more of a place now them before. Previously, it was all about the movie, which would finish, and then yah it's done. Now I look forward to gossip and rumors more then the films themselves. One of the reasons I don't like bollywood anymore, is because of more exposure to hollywood cinema. Films were copied from hollywood back in the day too, but today you can directly tell if a film lacks originality.. It's that obvious from the promos. Plus, it's become wayy to wanna-beish that i get this huge ass fake vibe from the films.
I guess Bollywood cares more about speculations and controversies then films now.
They have soo much publicity now, 24/7 thanks to the advancement of the media. They've even expanded there horizons for the countries where Bollywood films are
Watched, but films are becoming difficult to bear.

It's all about Publiity and Promotion.
Who's the star of the week, box office king/queen, etc.
Where's the actor bit?

I was deprived of bollywod while growing up. which is why I grew up to be such an un-romantic person 🤢 But I realized how romantic bollywood can make you...and life is so much better when you're romantic (in a balanced way) So I LOVE it now...forever and ever and ever.❤️

BW is not the same for me simply because the way films are made and sold has changed so much. There is no mystery associated with the process of film making or movie stars themselves. Movies stars on TV 24/7 due to ads, film promotions. So there is no fan excitement on my part.
The movie premieres on TV within 2-3 months of a film's release doesnt help either. Watching films in theatres is too expensive and time consuming. So if I go to watch one it has to be as good as TZP. I still enjoy watching movies even if its half decent as long as I am watching it from the comfort of my home.
