Tez is a rip-off of H-town film

The plot of the latest Ajay-Priyan flick is a copy of Speed, a rip-off of The Bullet Train

Slow down and you die. Now where have we heard that plotline before? At least three films that involve rapid transit systems have something to do with a bomb that will be triggered if the speed falls below a certain level.

While Priyadarshan's next Tez has a plot that reminds one of Keanu Reeves starrer Speed, the American blockbuster itself was a rip-off of a 1975 Japanese flick called Shinkansen Daibakuha (The Bullet Train).

While Shinkansen... had the action take place on a train, Speed suffered the same fate on a bus: there's a bomb on board that will go off if it slows down.

Tez, which is being shot in London, goes the same route as the original film.

Priyadarshan and Ajay Devgn

A source reveals that the Priyan flick will be an out-and-out actioner, "Ajay Devgn plays a terrorist who puts a speeding London-Paris train in harm's way.

A bomb he plants will explode if the train's speed slows down. Anil Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut and Sameera Reddy are the passengers on the train who try to come up with a way to save people on board."

The Bullet Train was a huge success in the late 70s. It spawned a series of Korean and Japanese films with similar plots. Speed was one of the biggest blockbusters the year it released.

Tez will have scenes shot on the Eurostar, a tube that connects London to Paris.

"The climax of Tez is similar to The Bullet Train where passengers will try and save their lives by stopping the bomb from exploding.

Priyan wants to keep the length of the film tight and won't have more than two songs in the film

MohanLal in Priyan's Next

Mohanlal and Priyadarshan are joining hands to do their first Bollywood film titled Tez. The two have worked together on 36 films so far in Malayalam.

Tez is being shot in ice cold conditions in Birmingham and Scotland. The film also stars Ajay Devgan, Anil Kapoor, Zayed Khan, Kangana Raunat and Sameera Reddy.

Mohanlal plays Shiv Menon, the chief of British Narcotics Bureau. He's seen in the film wearing the uniform of a British cop armed with a bullet proof vest, and a machine gun in his hand. Action director of Bond movies, Gard Miller, is the action choreographer for Tez.

TOI- Ajay Devgn's high-octane action stunts in Tezz

Ajay Devgn has done some thrilling action sequences in his upcoming release Tezz

The promos of Priyadarshan's slick thriller Tezz have created quite a buzz. Ajay Devgn and the rest of the cast have performed high-octane action stunts designed by Hollywood power duo Gareth Milne (Bourne Ultimatum and Bourne Identity) and Peter Pedrero (stunt co-ordinator of The Bourne Supremacy and a few action sequences from the Harry Potter series). The film also stars Anil Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Sameera Reddy and Zayed Khan, and has been produced by Ratan Jain.

Says Devgn, "It's a fabulous mix of international action and Indian emotions. Films work only if they connect with the audience, and Tezz has that emotional element. It has been presented in a very stylised manner with some fabulous action."

Peter Pedrero who has previously worked in some Indian films says, "Ajay has done a lot of his own stunts and was very focused. He is a very good student; when we demonstrated something, he would listen carefully and then within a couple of attempts perfect the shot. One day we were doing some test shots on a jet ski at very high speeds and close to the riverbank. Priyan asked me, 'Do you think we could get Ajay to do something like that?' Just as I was about to answer him, we looked over at the man doing the tests and did a double take. Who we thought was a stunt driver actually turned out to be Ajay!"

Among the many thrilling action sequences in the film, Ajay and Anil have shot a hand-to-hand combat sequence in a tunnel. "Both actors are fantastic. We briefed them in detail about how trained their characters would be and then designed the fight around their capabilities. We wanted them to do all the fights themselves and not use body doubles, making it look more dramatic and believable," Pedrero informs.

The action director also says that the car, bike and helicopter chase sequences involving Devgn are very explosive. "We shot on busy streets in Birmingham and in Scotland. I would say the hardest and possibly the most dangerous stunt is when Sameera's character slides her bike underneath a parked truck and safely emerges on the other side. All the action involving the vehicles was challenging."

Tezz is a Venus Worldwide Entertainment presentation and releases on April 27.
