He's one of the biggest stars in the world and perhaps it was only befitting that Will Smith wanted to get acquainted with the biggest film factory in the world. Though he could not meet Aishwarya Rai--Smith has gone on record expressing his fascination for her--he did meet the men who call the shots in Bollywood.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Karan Johar, UTV's Ronnie Screwvala, Adlabs' Manmohan Shetty...they were all there to show the MIB star around Film City and talk about their films.
Among those who were invited but who missed the appointment was Ashutosh Gowariker. "I had to rush to Delhi for an important archaeological appointment regarding my film Jodhaa-Akbar. I'd have loved to meet him. I believe he was quite keen to know about our film industry," said the Lagaan director.
But Karan Johar who did spend an hour with the star and who will be meeting him again on the sets of Indian Idol- II says: "It was a productive meeting. He's quite entertaining and well-informed and I was quite happy to see that he was genuinely interested in our industry and in a give-and-take of ideas on cinema."
However, for those of you hoping for a Karan Johar film starring Will Smith alongside Shah Rukh Khan, hold your horses. "There was no talk of any concrete movies, just regular back and forth of views," says a spokesperson from Sony which is hosting Smith's visit to India. As for his meeting with the stars of Bollywood, that was for later at Fardeen Khan's party on Wednesday night.
