| Truly ummeed se dugna! KBC gets 25 lakh calls per episode, so the odds of making it to final 10 twice are next to zero. Yet, it happened five times. And though the rules bar BSNL and MTNL employees, at least nine took part
The Selection Procedure to reach 'Hot Seat'
Round 1: At 8 pm when the questions lines are opened, participants need to be able to answer the question that's just been asked. The question will be specific to a forthcoming KBC2 episode. Callers need to call 19044247827 for BSNL and press the relevant option; Dial/SMS 646 for Airtel and press the relevant option; 19044247827 for MTNL and press the relevant option. You will be part of approximately 25 lakh callers.
Round 2: If participants get the answer right (almost everyone does because the questions are very simple), the computer will randomly select 500 callers out of all correct entries for that episode. If selected in the lucky 500, you'll receive a call from the organisers and you'll be asked to reply two questions in 10 seconds.
Round 3: If a participant gets both answers right, he/she would be eligible for this round. Among all correct entries, the computer randomly generates a list of 100. If amongst the lucky 100, you'll get another phone call from the organisers.
This time there will be three "close-ended" questions on General Knowledge and 1 "near-ended question." The organisers will call you within the next three days between 1 pm to 9 pm. Round 4: If a participant has got the first three answers right, he will be eligible to make it to the last 10. If there is a tie then the fourth question will be considered. Among all correct entries, the computer will randomly generate a list of 10 final participants.
There is a Quota 2 system which divides the country into 4 Zones (A-D) and each Zone needs to have representation as per rules specified and the "Overall Quota System" wherein at least 20 per cent of the short-listed candidates have to be women and at least 20 per cent have to be between 18 and 35. Round 5: Press the button the fastest on an IQ-based question, get your answer correctly and boy…you're in the Hot Seat.
Breaking the rules
The rule book of the KBC 2 clearly states "Employees of the company which produces the programme, Synergy Communications Pvt. Ltd, the advertising agency appointed from time to time, and all sub-contractors and agents rendering services, any sponsor; and members of their immediate family; persons other than Indian nationals, or Indian nationals living outside India, are ineligible to enter the competition.
Failure to provide proof or affidavit of eligibility, including the correct date of birth and all other documents as required per the rules and regulations within a reasonable time upon request by the company may result in disqualification and/or the withholding or withdrawal of a prize.
BSNL and MTNL are service providers and sponsors for KBC 2 and are thus bound by this rule. Surprisingly nine BSNL employees and one MTNL employee have participated in KBC II.
