| Entering Bollywood and making it big in the film industry is the dream of every other Indian, no matter if he is based in Britain or Bhatinda. The passion to star in films attracts millions. Some among them happen to be star sons; some others use their father's political power. Some abscond from their home towns; some others readily give away their careers in other fields. All of them struggling to make a strong debut. Some make it successfully while some fail miserably. This activity is a yearly routine at Bollywood and year 2005 was no exception. Segregating themselves under the category of metro-sexuals or retrosexuals, many male actors made their debuts this year. Some of them were brilliant and showed their capability of being the future stars of Bollywood, while some others seemed to have no clue of what one is supposed to do when the director shouts "action".
Jai Kalra was the first debutant of the year paired opposite Konkana Sen Sharma in Madhur Bhandarkar's Page 3. This guy from Delhi got the role when the original actor cast to play the character passed away unexpectedly due to some illness.
After appearing in a couple of ads and music videos, Asseem Merchant played the negative lead in Bullet - Ek Dhamaka that was no bang at the box-office. Romit Raj from the small flick Humdum gave a performance worth appreciation considering him to be a newcomer. Siddhart Koirala, Manisha Koirala's younger brother finally made his debut in Bollywood with Fun - Can Be Dangerous Sometimes. And well, the film really did turn out to be very dangerous to his career and he is never to be seen since then.
In his debut film, Samir Aftab performed all the duties, a conventional Hindi film hero is bound to perform. He was just another hero in just another film Chand Sa Roshan Chehra. He is currently working on the film Sun Zarra in which he will share screen with Mithun Chakraborty .
The third of the Deols, Abhay Deol debuted in the home production Socha Na Tha and got pretty well into the character he portrayed with a reasonably good performance. However for long term success in the industry, he needs to work hard on his looks and physique. Abhay has films like 1:40 Ki Last Local and one with Soha Ali Khan, coming up next year.
Next entrants in the industry this year were from the glamorous fashion world. Shiny Ahuja who succeeded to make way in the public consciousness with his television commercials and music videos, entered films with Sanjay F. Gupta's Karam. Though Shiny proved to be quite a capable actor, his character in the film left him disabled. His next film Sins turned out to be rather controversial. He finally got a platform to display his talent with Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, which actually was supposed to be his debut film. In this film he stole limelight even from the seasoned performers like Kay Kay Menon. This talented young man has many films lined up for next year which also includes Yash Raj Films Fanaah.
Kelly Dorjee, known for his killer looks in fashion world and also seen on television for a while, but best known as Lara Dutta's boyfriend, entered the movies with Tango Charlie. Though the film had many big stars in it, Kelly managed to make his presence felt. Kelly subsequently also appeared in movies like Khamosh, Fareb and Ek Ajnabee this year. Shravan made a dismal debut in Kuch Meetha Ho Jaaye.
Director Sujoy Ghosh of Jhankaar Beats fame did his bit of acting in the critically acclaimed film, My Brother Nikhil. Besides this, Sujoy had released his second directorial venture, Home Delivery this year but the movie was a major disappointment.
Shreyas Talpade had reached the highest levels of fame on Marathi television before he set the stage rocking in the Bollywood. The actor whom we happen to know as Iqbal today, had actually entered Bollywood with a film called Revati earlier this year. But the world became aware of Shreyas' acting potential with Iqbal, in which he didn't have even a single line to say (since he is mute and deaf), but he stole the show from some veteran actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Girish Karnad. Shreyas was definitely one of the finest discoveries of 2005 and has a long way to go.
After luring the audiences with his abilities as a singer, Kamaal Khan followed the footsteps of Sonu Nigam and just like him, failed to create an impact as an actor in his debut film Jo Bole So Nihal.
Karan Khanna, cousin of Akshaye and Rahul Khanna and nephew of Vinod Khanna, stepped into Bollywood with Bach ke Rehana Re Baba, but hardly got to speak for his lips were regularly locked with Mallika Sherawat.
Randeep Hooda, officially made his debut with Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding but the actor is worth a mention for his mind blowing performance in the movie 'D' this year. Randeep playing the underworld don with ice-in-his-veins 'D' gave an awesome display of his talent. In spite of the presence of many mature actors, Randeep stands out in the film and carries the film all by himself.
After displaying his talent on the British theatre and films scene, actor Toby Stephens became known at an international level with his mind blowing performance in the James Bond movie, Die Another Day. His debut in Bollywood was amazing too. For an English actor to deliver lines in Hindi and match it with appropriate expressions is no ordinary task. The actor complimented Aamir at every step and delivered a knockout performance in Ketan Mehta's Mangal Panday - The Rising.
Karan Sharma started his career in Bollywood with Papa Romesh Sharma's film Dil Jo Bhi Kahey. Except for his height, he hardly had anything that could be matched with co-star Amitabh Bachchan. Addy made quite an impressing entry with a very mature film like Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara as Urmila's younger brother.
Mohit Alawat was Ram Gopal Varma's latest discovery. The actor has good looks and strong physique but on the downside there was only a display of his biceps rather than a display of his acting skills. Mohit seemed to be an average actor in the typical dishum dishum masala film James. But Ramu believes that the new comer is talented and has also signed him for his next couple of movies which include Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay and Shiva.
Remember the little kid from the famous film Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke, who impressed audiences with his brilliant comic sense and after few years made everyone cry with his performance in Zakhm. That same little kid made his comeback as a lead actor in Kalyug. This youngster gave the audience the biggest shock when the promos of the movie hit the television. Kunal Khemu went through a complete transformation and returned back to the big screen with big muscles and a matured personality. But there is one thing in him that didn't change at all; that thing is his immense talent of performing on screen. And thank god he didn't lose that. Kunal Khemu is definitely one of the most promising newcomers of the year.
Not many might be aware that Shekhar Ravjiani, from the musician duo Vishal and Shekhar did a guest appearance in the film Home Delivery. New York socialite Vikram Chatwal was average in his debut film Ek Ajnabee. Remember Vivek Madan? He's the guy who stuck to fame dancing to the 'kya aap close-up karte hain' jingle. He didn't turn as popular in the film world but made a decent debut in the smalltime flick U, Bomsi N Me along with Bobby Bahal who also produced the film.
This year will mark the entrance of one of the biggest stars of Pakistani films, Jawed Sheikh. Jawed, known for his excellent performances in Pakistani cinema enters Bollywood with John Mathew Matthan's Shikhar. In fact, Dus, that released earlier this year was supposed to be Jawed's first film, but his role in the film was chopped off due to some reasons.
Faces to look out for in 2006
Mithun Chakraborty's eldest son, Mimoh Chakraborty will also make his debut next year in He - The Only One.
Famous Model Upen Patel, a regular on page 3, will be making his debut in Abbas Mustan's 36, China Town.
Aryeman will be making his entrance in Bollywood by sharing screen with Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar in Family- Ties of Love. The film is being produced by his father Keshu Ramsay.
Ranbir Kapoor, son of Rishi Kapoor was originally to make debut in Sanjay Leela Bansali film, but now there is news that he might enter Bollywood with Yash Raj Films. Still waiting for a confirmation on the development here.
Harman Baweja is all set to make his debut next year in a sci-fi thriller Love Story 2050. The film is a home production produced and directed by his father, Harry Baweja.
Superstar of South, Siddharth is stepping in Bollywood with Rang De Basanti. The actor has won appreciation for his performances in many Tamil movies. source:indiafm i hope u like it |
