She charmed her way into the hearts of millions with her captivating smile and breathtaking beauty. From her debut movie Om Shanti Om to a number of hits that have followed, Deepika Padukone has proven that she is not just another gorgeous gal, but one with loads of talent.
Break Ke Baad has a fresh young look with Deepika and Imran Khan as the lead pair for the first time, one that the audience is looking forward to seeing on screen.
Talking about co-star Imran, Deepika says, "It's been great fun working with Imran, he's one of the most fun co-stars that I have worked with. I feel we've been very supportive of each other and been helping out each other a lot. We get along quite well and that is what has translated on screen as well."
She is all praise for the actor as she adds, "Previously, I'd interacted with him socially a couple of times and always found him to be a really good human being and a very caring person."
The film has other firsts too. Deepika gives her thumbs up for debutant director Danish Aslam's confidence saying, "I don't feel like I'm working with a new director. He is very very sure of what he wants and there is a sense of clarity in what he wants. Being new I think he's been able to bring a lot of freshness into the movie."
The other novel element is Sharmila Tagore and Deepika playing mother and daughter for the first time. In earlier press reports, Tagore was quoted to have jokingly said it was the dimple that made the match possible.
From her very first movie working with a superstar (Shah Rukh Khan) and not being overshadowed by him to working with relatively new actors, Deepika cherishes each experience.
She says there is no particular difference as such which she can point out between working with well known names or new ones. "Everyone's become quite professional these days and everyone comes with certain qualities and experiences that your can learn from," she says.
"It is always a give and take situation when you meet or work with new people. You get a chance to learn from them both personally and professionally," she adds.
Bollywood has set its stage for the new crop of actors, who are making their presence felt and the battle of the beauties has begun once again. However, Deepika diplomatically declines to name one as serious competition. "It is not about trying to be like someone else or copying someone but offering something unique that really matters.
I think as an actor it is
very important to be different from everyone else, it
is essential to bring in your individuality."
"As for the competition, as long as you take that competition in the right way
it is fine, you should take it in the right spirit," says Deepika.
The FHM magazine recently rated Deepika the 'sexiest woman in the world'. With a face like hers there are chances that the audience might put more emphasis on her looks and her skills as an actor may get sidelined. However, she hopes that is not the case.
"Personally, that is certainly not how I see myself in movies and hope even the audience sees beyond it. I try to sink into the character and I feel the audience should be able to connect to your character in the first five minutes of the movie."
And it is probably because of this attitude that she has been able to make a mark for herself in Bollywood. But there are certain roles she would still like to play, and it is not one of those 'substantial' roles she's looking forward to.
She would like to show off some stunts. "Though I did a bit of action sequences in Chandni Chowk to China, now I would like to do a complete hardcore action movie," says Deepika.
Her wish list of directors includes Vishal Bhardwaj, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Mani Ratnam, Karan Johar and Yash Chopra among others.
Besides her movies, her personal life is closely watched by the media and fans too. The latest rumours circulating is that she is missing Ranbir and planning to get back with him. But the actress blatantly dismisses it. "That is not true, for now I am single."
When she is not acting she says she is likes spending time pretty much doing things that other people do. "I like spending time with family and friends. I love sports and listening to music and trying out different kinds of cuisines," says Deepika.
As for shooting in Mauritius she says, "It has been good fun, the food is great and the people are very
hospitable. I did learn
scuba diving and now I'm a professional scuba diver. I plan to do skydiving while I'm here."
And to her fans she says, "It feels great to receive
all the love and respect
that they have given me.
I hope they will continue
to support me in the future as well."
