Salman endorses peace
Mumbai: Amitabh Bachchan spearheaded IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) by doing an ambitious charity initiative in Sri Lanka with the awards night set to be held in Colombo. The body wants to help the conflict torn region by partnering with the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, Habitat for Humanity and UNICEF. Interestingly Salman Khan, who doesn't really share a great relationship with the Bachchan family post his bitter break-up with Aishwarya, has agreed to be the brand ambassador of the IIFA Charity Initiative.
The entire team will come forward and pitch in for the Cricket for Change project that will see former child-soldiers being rehabilitated into Sri Lankan society. These children are also being educated, trained in cricket and will also participate as volunteers at the event. The charity cricket match between Indian celebrities and Sri Lankan cricketers is scheduled to take place on the second day of the awards weekend.
Salman confirms, "I support the initiative that aims to give back to the Sri Lankan people, due to the recent hardships they have faced. I am happy to be an 'Ambassador of Change' and believe that it is crucial to make a difference and contribute to this worthy cause."
Tony Senewiratne, National Director of Sri Lanka's Habitat for Humanity, adds, "This union will join our efforts to bring a significant change to the lives of many families. We plan to make a major difference by providing a community with a decent house and a better quality of life."
And Sri Lankan minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena furthers, "With the dawn of the new era in our island, Sri Lanka which is renowned as the 'Pearl of the Indian Ocean', has great potential in expanding its vistas in investment, tourism, agriculture and other sectors that will immensely contribute towards the rapid development drive initiated by the Government."
Salman Khan has just completed one month on Twitter and it looks like Sallu mania is still going strong. Even after having zero followers suddenly one day when a bug hit Twitter, he has bounced back and is leading the pack when it comes to Bollywood celebrities. Salman now has 1,25,961 followers. "Salman had no problems even when his followers were zero. This is called a star.
He has just completed a month on Twitter and he is really happy most of his fans are on Twitter following him," says his close friend.
