most versatile actess

i think kareena is because she challenges herself in diffrent kinds of roles instead sticking to the same one as doing a serious arty type like omakras dolly to zestful and larger life geet which makes me believe she can do anything and make it belivable on screen, i love kangana but she sticks to the same mad type of charecters and no doubt shes good but its gets tiring

In just this year alone, Kareena has shown that.

^Umm three of those films haven't even released yet but I do think she is versatile.

But if I had to pick one person maybe Tabu or going back a few years Smita Patil. Tabu from Maqbool, Astitva, Chandni Bar, The Namesake, Cheeni Kam or Maachis has shown tremendous range.

I'm asusming she meant a commercial mainstream actress. But if htat's NOT the case then obviously I'll go for Tabu.

Yeah but it is still hard to judge just based on just promos.

And Tabu has done plenty of "commercial films" in her career. Maachis was commercial for sure, as was Virasat where she was also very good. Or Chandni Bar and Cheeni Kum. I don't really buy the commercial v. art film divide anyway. These were all mainstream films.

out of the lot we have right now, i am going to say it's priyanka. she's done the serious roles (fashion, kaminey) to playing the villain (aitraaz) to playing the action queen (don, drona) to the subtle performances (yakeen, karam, waqt) to stepping out of the typical bollywood movies (love story 2050, what's your raashee) to the glam roles but doing it well (mujhse shaadi karogi, andaaz) to comedy roles (aap ki khatir, SEI). she's been appreciated for the majority of these roles but the only one that people had some complaints about was her role in sei. still she tried the comedy genre. she hasn't stuck to being the glam doll who runs around trees in short skits. out of them all what's your raashee shows how versatile she is.

I don't know if Bollywood has versatile actresses like say Toni Collete. Or maybe my memory is failing me at the moment. I mean I love Tabu. But is she versatile? I have not seen her do comedy. I know she's done drama, horror, thriller, typical dance routine stuff......maybe I missed it, but has she done comedy (the subtle ones not the OTT ham your way through kinds)?

Umm, Tabu has done comedy films like Sajaan Chale Sasural, and Biwi No 1. But she didn't really showcase any real comic timing (IMO)

When I said versatile I meant the kind of roles she played in those films and not necessarily the genre of the film. For instance Ishq Vishq and Vivaah are pretty different films, but Amrita Rao's character is still the simple, sweet shy girl and so I wouldn't say that is necessarily versatile.

Tabu did do Biwi No. 1 and Hera Pheri but they weren't all that subtle. Then again there haven't been many subtle comedies (like the Hrishikesh Mukherjee type) for the longest time in bollywood..

I think that to call any actress versatile she needs to have done comedy. Most of these actresses cannot do comedy or have not been given the opportunity as it is solely reserved for some comedic actors but out of the actresses the good ones in comedy are Rani, Kajol, and Kareena.
