Ashutosh Gowariker announced his Harman Baweja-Priyanka Chopra starrer What's Your Raashee's release date 25th September a long time ago. He hoped that other producers would take notice and prepone or postpone their releases, and avoid a clash as he wanted a solo release. But the plan didn't work.
David Dhawan (Do Knot Disturb) and Madhur Bhandrakar (Jail) are also eyeing the same date for their films.
A source reveals, "While Ashutosh is concerned about the other two films biting into his share of the audience, he is willing to sit across the table and talk to the other filmmakers to convince them to pick another date.
Meanwhile, Harry, concerned about his son's important release went ahead and called Madhur and David and asked them to change their release dates. Both directors politely refused and chose to stick to their dates. This act of his hasn't gone down well with Gowariker, who feels that Papa Baweja had no business butting in, and the matters will now complicate further."
The source continues, "Ashutosh is miffed with Harry as he'd strictly warned him not to interfere. The director also had a word with Harman to explain the same to his family. A meeting of Indian Motion Pictures' Producers Associ-ation (IMPPA) is called on Sunday to discuss and decide the release dates of the respective movies. The Jodhaa Akbar director is keen to have a solo release as he had announced his release date in advance."
Madhur denies receiving any call from Harry but says, "I want to have a Sept 25 release but nothing is finalised as yet. The Sunday meeting with the IMPPA will make the final decisions."
When contacted, Do Knot Disturb producer Vashu says, "We want a Sept 25 release; that's what we have decided upon. The meeting on Sunday will decide the final outcome. We all are a family in the industry and all our money is involved. Considering all the factors, we will take a decision."
Ashutosh Gowariker remained unavailable for the comment.
