Non existent teeth was an exaggeration which implied bad teeth which is evident when he talks...

There was this friend of mine in college whose last name was Natesan and we all used to call her Nutty - well she and I were the craziest of the girls in the group anyway. So once her father came to meet her and someone just called out Nutty your Dad is here, and he went - "Are you talking to me?" - even his friends used to call him Nutty.

This is just one of those instances in life where somethings lend themselves naturally to similar nicks
