The creatives stage events according to what kind of ratings they want. They also seem to create tasks and evictions based on the person they want to take out, or who isn't giving them high TRPs. I also think that the contestants are guaranteed a certain # of weeks stay upon signing. They get extended based on how much TRP they can pull in, hence the tamasha they provide and the love stories they create.

All in all, creatives are pulling strings on the puppet contestants, making them dance to their tune.

No, it's not scripted.

I know many of the contestants who have been a part of Bigg Boss seasons, they said it's NOT scripted. Though few things are shown in a twisted/edited way to the audiences (as it might not have happened exactly) for higher ratings, but it's not scripted.
