Guess I am in minority here but I did not like watching Pratap beating up JM. As far as why they are showing all this, one angle has been mentioned by many, which is to sow seeds of discontent between Pratap and US. Another angle occurs to me. This may be the event that will later play a role in convincing Pratap to take the throne from JM when the time comes. Pratap will need to believe in his heart that JM would be detrimental to good of the kingdom, otherwise he will not do it. The real Pratap had to be convinced, so in the show, they will use this event possibly to do that.
