Bhanujeet quits 'Bhabhi'
Actor Bhanujeet Sudan aka Nihal of 'Bhabhi' (Star Plus), who has been replaced by Amit Tandon, denies being thrown out of the show by the producers (UTV). Allegedly, he had asked for an unreasonable raise, which wasn't agreeable to the production house.
Bhanujeet clarifies, "I quit the serial voluntarily because my character wasn't growing. Initially, I was supposed to play a cameo. But after my entry, the serial's ratings increased. The creative team acknowledged my contribution and increased my track-but only for a few episodes. Soon after, it started becoming dull. I hardly had anything to perform."
He continues, "I would shoot for a maximum of five days in a month. My dates were blocked so I couldn't even take up more work. I met the creative head and the executive producer and told them to increase my track. It has been five months since the meeting. Although I had been promised immediate attention, my track is still waiting to grow. I didn't want to waste my time. I had to move on."
Talking about how he shot even under compelling situations, Bhanujeet says, "I have never left the shoot midway. Once, when a combined episode of 'Bhabhi' and 'Kumkum' was being shot, all actors wanted to leave after a certain time. The production team requested them to stay back. No one wanted to. But I agreed and then gradually everyone agreed."
Bhanujeet adds, "On another occasion, I had to shoot a scene where I was required to stand in the water for long hours. I developed cramps, yet I completed it without complaining. Subsequently, my fees were doubled without my asking for it. However, if there is no creative satisfaction, I can't stay."
However, UTV's spokesperson Preeti Puri Sharma says, "Bhanujeet hadn't been co-operating with us for dates. We were forced to look for options."
Incidentally, last year too, three actors from the same show-Puneet Sachdev, Pariva and Mohit Raina quit the show within a span of three months as their characters apparently showed no growth.
