Why? Whats the reason?

As I did not watch this serial properly, I could not understand why that man is so cruel towards Maya.What is the reason?

Really he is horrible and Maya needs protection from him. Hope Arjun keeps her happy.

Why cant that person be arrested for threatening Maya like that? Her mother seems to be dumb.

Hope Saanjh remains the best friend and help the couple though Maya is trying to hurt her.
