I think because this time Maya's humane side was also shown, some viewers started expecting that no murder etc will be shown. But the channel and makers had always promoted S2 to be darker than S1. It's darker because in S1 Maya was virtually obsessed psycho, her mental state was anything but normal. But in S2 whatever she is doing, is with healthy, conscious mind. She is doing in revenge, and she is shown obsessed with revenge for which she can cross any limits.
The title of this series "Beyhadh" itself suggests that makers have to or will show things which ordinarily are not done if stayed within limits (hadh). They have to justify the title. Besides, the Crux of Maya's character has always been that she is supposed to be dark. That darkness should be consistent in some way in all seasons. Especially since the basic nature of Maya's character was already established in S1. Maya's nature or reason for going after someone can change with seasons but not the fact that she has to retain some darkness in her character. In that regard makers have done a wonderful job.
In no way I am justifying what Maya did to Rishi, since he was innocent. But then this is what Maya has always been about as a character- dark, blind and obsessed with her aim. Maya as a character gist was never about being completely right or wrong, it was about her being dark, obsessed in terms of the means she uses to achieve her goals. People who watch these kinda stories, usually do for the sake of characterisations and not for the main lead being always right. Because Maya was never a normal avenging character. N agree with you, this time loving each and every cast member too.
