The unit of 'Banoo Main Teri Dulhann' (Zee TV) recently went out of their way to collect funds for a junior artiste who was required to undergo a very critical operation.
A unit source reveals, "Arzoo Sheikh, 22, who is a body-double by profession and plays the dupe for Jaya Bhattacharya in the show was diagnosed with kidney stones and appendicitis. She was told the operation and post oprative treatment would cost close to Rs one lakh. However, Arzoo, who earns a modest salary of around Rs 15,000 was unable to afford the treatment. With her father long deceased and and her mother keeping unwell, she had no one to turn to for help."
Apparently Arzoo kept postponing the operation but it started taking a toll on her — she would often fall sick. A few unit members found out about her situation and decided to pitch in with money. Says Sharad Malhotra, who plays Sagar in the soap, "We just tried to help her so that she didn't postpone her operation any further."
"When the unit members came to know about it, they came forward to donate money. Pradeep-ji (production controller), Divyanka (Tripathi, who plays Vidya) and Sharad donated close to Rs 25,000. I am very grateful to them; particularly Divyanka, because she actually left the shooting to fetch the money from an ATM. Pradeep-ji was kind enough to say that I should return the money only if I could. My relatives also helped me with some money," reveals Arzoo.
Incidentally, Arzoo, who lost her father to cancer when she was a child, also lost her mother the day she was operated upon. To compound her problems, though her appendicitis operation was successful, now Arzoo has been detected with a life threatening disease and is being treated for the condition.
