Once upon a time, Ekta Kapoor was known as the Soap Queen. With almost 39 shows airing over various channels, she ruled the industry for eight years. But within the last year, eight of Ekta's show went off air. This included two of her most popular shows- Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki.
CURRENTLY, she has only three shows airing- Kitani Mohobbat Hai (NDTV Imagine), Bandini (NDTV Imagine) and a horror show Koi Aane Ko Hai (Colors)- and people believe the reason for this is audiences growing up.
A source from the industry says, "Nowadays, more substantial subjects are being handled on TV, which is a welcome change. Earlier, younger actors used to play the roles of the father and mother, which were quite unconvincing."
Natasha, the lead of Laado, also echoes this saying, "I feel that it is good that shows like Balika Vadhu are becoming popular. People are now exploring a wider spectrum of topics. There are so many issues that were left untouched."
So, does this mean that the saas bahu era is over? Rajan Shahi, from Director Kut, who produces Bidaai, says, "The saas bahu relationship is very prominent in families. The era isn't over. It's just that other relationships are also being focused on now."
It seems that Ekta has finally realised that she can't get away with generic shows and unbelievable storylines. And, that's why the show Bandini has a completely different plot as compared to her other work.
Here is a list of some of Ekta's hit shows that have wrapped up:
