Is Sumitra wrong in not wanting Ganga in her house?

A lot of discussions are happening on the forum about Sumi being wrong in her opinion about Ganga. I was against the transition too. She is the epitome of grace and motherly affection on Indian TV. But her resentment with Ganga, specially after the BH drama is where I am in two minds. The entire family was in a life threatening situation, having looked at death so closely. That Sumi loves her family is for everyone to see. She dint utter about Ganga till Ratan threatened to kill everyone there.

Ratan Singh showed them living hell, the entire family went through the pain and Sumi cant see that for them. If she is being cautious and does not want Ganga to be in their house, is that wrong on a practical level?

I feel the Singhs <<ie DS, Basant and Bhairon>> are responsible to a huge extent for making her resent Ganga. Constant comparisons with Anandi and calling her Anandi was uncalled for. It played with Sumi's pysche. She wasnt/ isnt ready to give anybody the place of Anandi. Rather it is a stupid thing on the part of CVs too to constantly fit in Ganga as Anandi. They both are different and Ganga should be projected as a unique personality with her own strengths, which I feel is starting to come around now.

Just wanted an opinion of the forum on Sumi.

I made the same poll some days ago you can search...Sumi is wrong get 100+vots. Mejority thinks she is wrong.

well i think she is wrong...agreed because of ganga ratan came to BH and everyone saw living hell. her concern for her family's safety was very much correct...infact to an extent her suggestion to Bhairav to shift Ganga to women shelter was also ok...it was before the attack and to an extent logical,cause she thought that this way Ratan would not harm them.,

but i think she never understood that Ratan considered BH people his enemy since the day they saved ganga from his clutches and gave her shelter, strength to fight against him and go for divorce. she should have thought this the day DS and J decided to keep Ganga in BH and voiced her fears - then it was perfectly fine. but she didnt do that because she also wanted to keep ganga and help her out.

even if we say that ganga was shifted to women's shelter, then also ratan would have attacked BH the same way, tortured them the same way and maybe after not finding ganga would have burned them anyways to take revenge. that is the reason he hit jagya also - to take revenge.

sumi's main problem with ganga started when people started to compare her with anandi. agreed it was wrong to do, but was it really wrong? i mean if DS feels ganga is like anandi she says it, if sumi doesnt then she should have just said so. instead she took the resentment to her heart and let it become hatred towards Ganga.

and it was this hatrred that made her speak in front of Ratan about ganga, it was this hatred that made her say what she said about ganga after the BH drama, and this was the hatred that made her happy after ganga left haveli and hence she didnt stop her. this is the same hatred that even now she cannot digest ganga being in hospital or in Jaitser for that matter.

and since ganga is an outsider, she cud hate her, let her go out of the house. but tomorrow if we consider (i know its impossible) but just for the sake of it..Sanchi marries J and she becomes anandi part 2 and everyone start comparing her to anandi then will sumi be the same what she was with ganga?

it was more of her personal feelings towards Ganga than the family's safety that made her behave how she did. family was a reason, a big one and she took it as a shield.
and now when ratan is behind the bars and ganga is going to banglore anyways..i think she should have supported her. Ganga almost gave up her mannu to save singhs, wasnt mannu her only family whom she was losing to ratan? ...and ganga has done enough of other things for singhs as well to get their love and respect.
so i feel Sumi is wrong.

But is Sumitra wrong to not let Ganga in her house- i don't think so

Ganga is living very comfortably in hospital headquarters also so i feel Singhs should have done this before...basically i feel the trouble has happened because Singhs got too much attached with Mannu and Ganga and vice versa...then they started comparing her with Anandi and pissing off Sumitra (even i was equally pissed off...how can a outsider be compared and even called better than their own daughter specially after what Anandi had done for Singhs)...Sumitra's thinking was logically but at wrong timing

right now the problem has gone above and beyond Ganga staying with the Singhs in their home...now sumitra has a problem with anything related to Ganga...even her name...now she's going to freak out over Ganga staying in th e quarters, she's already at her sons throat over trying to help this poor woman, as if he's some primary school kid, he's a grown man with his own judgement and it's his prerogative who he wants to help...he's helping an innocent woman and her baby boy, and Sumitra was screaming at him as if he's associating himself with a drug lord or something...it's too much now. She has definitely been butchered and this won't change any time soon. Her resentment of Ganga will only grow bec. Jagya may not be in love with her but he will not be able to stay away from her either.

I disagree with this. I think Sumitra is being an ass in this matter.

comparing anandi to ganga is only offensive/wrong if anandi were being trashed in the comparison and ganga were being put on a pedestal.

But here anandi is not being trashed and saying someone is "like anandi" when it is being meant as a compliment is perfectly okay.

Nobody said ganga was trying to usurp the place of anandi. And even if ganga is trying to "take" the place of anandi, she will be successful only if sumitra herself "gives" the place. Otherwise nobody can force anandi out of a spot and replace her with ganga.

As far as giving ganga her own unique personality -- I think they have given her the most unique personality possible within the limitations of her social circumstances and cultural set-up and her recent present circumstances of being a guest at the haveli. They cant give her a personality like ashima or something.

Given that she was a guest at the haveli, she was trying to "pay off" her debt by doing housework. That is only natural. It would not have looked nice for her to sit on a couch and watch tv all day long, while the two bahus sumitra and gehna slaved in the kitchen. She wanted to make herself useful. Naturally, she took over certain roles that anandi had to fulfil in this context, and that led to everyone saying she was "like anandi" whether that involved making adrak chai or giving dadisa maalish. I don't know if anandi did something so special in her tea making activities or massaging dadisa's feet that would have led to some unique distinction.

In addition, ganga's background as a woman from a rural background, abused, limited by her education and then finding her wings and flying straight from 3rd std to 10th std to nursing college also are reminiscent of anandi.

And the CVs did make her "unique" -- she has no bent for social service or rural upliftment and is not doing social work. Instead, she is focused on herself and making herself into a nurse.

So, its okay I think.

I agree she started showing her resentment towards Ganga once the comparisons between her and Anandi started. But, I am not sure why there was a need for her to feel insecure. When the Singhs were comparing the two of them, it didn't mean that they were saying anything bad about Anandi. Don't really support Sumi in getting insecure. nobody was saying Ganga was better than Anandi.

But, yes I don't think she was wrong in her wanting Ganga out of the house or in some shelter fearing for the safety of the family. She got all the more hyper after the attack on Jagya and that too after Sanchi start poisoning her mind. Until Sanchi spoke she didn't even think of the danger Ganga posed.

Even when Ganga walked out of the house, don't really understand why Bhairon and Jagya are blaming ONLY Sumi for Ganga walking out ?

letting a woman go out in the middle of the night then shouting she was not Anandi or Sugna she is none of our concern we haven't made any rishta with her which is clear lie from Sumi Blaming her all that happened she was sole reason for this despite seeing whatever she has done for them Bhairo and Jagaya are disappointed with Sumitra she can think like this No one is only blaming her she with her acts is putting all blame on her head Now Rat is in jail still she has problems with Ganga ?Family in danger is not a reason for Sumi to go this far Sanchi only took advantage of her already present negative feelings against Ganga

She just didn't want Ganga to go out of the house she has been clearly saying we she is none of our concern She just don't want to keep any concern with her why because she is insecure for a very pathetic reason

The Sumi we all knew would have supported a woman like Ganga and would have fought for justice along with rest of the family.

This new form of Sumi is selfish. If Jaggiyya walked in with Gauri, she would like her so much. just like this new Sumi being excited about Saanchi...

Hiral - Nice post

Sumi is entitled to have her opinion about Ganga.Her opinions need not be similar to what the rest of the family members feel.If she did not want her in her home and her life that is her opinion.

For her Ganga is not part of her family she only is someone who they gave shelter.Her world begins and ends with her family and if there is anything left she will share it with the rest of the world.If she supported Anandi against Jagya in her POV it is taking siding with the family member who was wronged by another member of her family.So it is still all in her family.

If Ganga had been part of her family she would have risked her life to support her.

She just does not consider Ganga as part of family like the rest of her family does.She is entitled to have her own opinion.

She was wrong in taking out her frustrations on Ganga.Her behaviour towards Ganga was wrong it is not excusable.

Her family members are making things only worse for her.
