What a sad sad situation the TV industry is in! From the outside everything looks nice and glamorous but when you take a closer look it's no less than a hellish life! I hope things get better and soon...

I don't think they'll learn it.. I mean the PH's and Channel's..

I remember the behind the scenes crew went on an indefinite strike in Sep-Nov 2009.. coz the PH were over burdening them but were not paying them enough and PH's blamed it all on the channels and channels on PH's.. the strike went on for a month and there was no new content on TV.. Channels rehashed the old episodes and created mahaepisodes out of the old footage and telecast it for a month. After much ado a agreement came to place and people returned to work.. after all this the attitude didn't change so don't think it will change ever.. how I wish we could have gone back to the professionalism and innocence of Doordarshan.

This is exactly what we've been saying all along. Sigh. Chalo, at least they're printing something that's not propaganda. There are some really amazing posts in Gina's thread about the same thing but I'm posting here because we can actually read the article here. But I want to quote Malika's post from that thread, because it says everything I think:

Thanks for sharing the article Ginu 😊 Well I think have been saying the same since long. But of course the channels don't care. And if you don't care about the one who brings you your bread and butter - your leads and your audiences - You will surely face the repercussions.

I think in the recent times there has been no lead actor who has stuck to their show for more than 2 years.Barun quit IPK, mohnish behn quit Kuch toh log kahenge for health issues, sushant singh rajput quit pavitra rishta.Clearly showing that one or more leads of all the long running shows on TV hv quit at some time or the other.

If the TV industry continues to work like this I am afraid one day there will be a REAL dearth of good talent on tv.Its high time indian tv goes the international way - Providing both actors and audiences a breath of fresh air.

Couldn't agree more.

Long working hours when combined with working for indefinite time period will obviously lead to fatigue among the actors

Probably they should do away with this daily soaps that run for indefinite period of time and come up with a format where they have a daily soap running for a fixed period of time 6 months or one year max.In this period the story should be finished or a part of the story should be finished and then come back after a break with another season to complete the story

It will be good for the actors .They can take a break before they take up another project. They will not have the fear of being typecast. They get to explore their talents trying different role.

Viewers will be spared of being treated to ridiculous tracks that the CVs dish out to keep the show running.

I believe that is what they do with Pakistani serials, which have much more finite and lucid scripts. Indian TV industry needs to contemplate same, but till they do all Indian Serial leads have to work these kind of hours if they want to be leads.

I remember DD days where they had weeklies. They had 13 episode format.

They can do the same now too only instead of the weekly show they can make it a daily show.

TFS! I couldn't read the other post dealing with this article so really appreciate this post.

It's always shocking for me coming across this sort of information as I live in a western environment where the television industry is well regulated in terms of labour conditions. I know the article mentions that conditions are improving with actors only having to work 12 hours and being paid overtime but I don't think this applies to all actors or is practiced across the industry. I read an article on IF about Angad Hasija and the huge problems he had with Savitri and Life's Ok. Link here. I recommend having a look.

Change is going to happen because the way things are being run at the moment is unsustainable. Not just the pressure put on the actors but all of the staff involved. An example being editors, shooting is generally happening the day before or even the morning of the episode airing but this means that the editors will have to work under immense pressure to get the episode ready to air on time. I've done some editing in the past and it is a time consuming process.

Eventually the seasonal or mini-series format will become more common in the industry. Some shows are already doing seasons and it shows since they are delivering a higher quality product than long-running soaps.

omg...vry hectic schedule nd bv z airing 6 days in a week so it must be overburdened

earlier shows aired only 4 days in a week then 5 days nd now 6 days...i thnk channel shld increase d no of shows so that many ppls get employment nd these actors also get their life.
