I just want to know what folks think of the difference between telling a lie vs. hiding the truth?

I dont have a specific question i am asking, but it is triggered off by Jagya's comments made that he never told a lie really ... he just hid the truth... and that he did not lie to gauri because he wanted to give a dhoka, he hid the truth from her because he loved her and did not want to hurt her feelings.

What is the distinction?

In bother cases INTENTION is most important. If u lie with good intentions or hide with good intention and not to cheat or harm other thn its OK for me. But in jogia case he not only hide but even lied and in both cases his intention was selfish. He hide his marriage and he lied tht he hd no any wife husband relationship with A. His intention was not to save G from heart attack but to save his own a**. 😆 😆

great topic again tinoo😊!

ouright lie versus hiding the truth..
we just have to look back in rich indian literature, history or mythology whatever one choose to call it to search for the answer..
In Mahabharat, when the fight is on between Kauravas and Pandavas, kaurava had stronger warriors in their end.
Dhronacharya, the guru. he had a son named Aswathama! Drona was unstoppable.. to stop him a plan was devised to distract him. He was to be told that his son died. Everyone knew he would not believe that unless been told by Yudhistir, a man who never lies.
so when drona was told that aswathama died he went to yudhistir for confirmation..
yudhistir said..
"aswathama kunjaraha hatah"
kunjaraha meaning elephant which was killed a moment back to back up the tale. and when he spoke kunjaraha drums were rolled to drown out the sound.
so all drona heard is "aswathama hatah".
he dropped his weapons and went to meditate. and was killed.
Yudhistir technically did not lie. he failed to tell the whole truth by choice.
and He was Wrong. but the battle was won by the good people.
so lets say such decisions are best left to the great good. which hurts most truth or lie. but if the lie wont hurt anyone and truth will kill so let the soul be the guiding force..
Incidentally jagat's soul if present is quite dormant.😊! he is liar by choice, by nature and i think he cant tell a truth bcoz he just doesn't know how to.

For me hiding the truth in any circumstances is equal to lying...both r completely unacceptable for me...i do realize tht it needs lots of courage to tell the truth always..but if u truly love someone then u should never ever hide anythin frm them o even lie to them...yeah but again it depends on the person whom ur lying to..tht person shud also understand u n try to accept the situation n appreciate ur truth...which is impossible for gauri..:p
