Entrepreneurs' Day

When you think about it, the world is crammed with great products that we took for granted, but that were once non-existent until they were somehow dreamed up by a budding entrepreneur. From the postage stamp to the jet engine, and the cheeseburger to the microchip, radical inventions by brilliant minds have changed the way we live our lives and shaped our futures. In recognition of these people you can now celebrate Entrepreneurship Day which, since its inauguration in 2010, is an annual event that honours those men and women who have very often created an empire from absolutely nothing, most of them making themselves rather wealthy in the process as well. America is a country made of entrepreneurs. Men and women who built something from nothing. Created jobs. Made America what it is today. In many ways, the present was built by them.We can genuinely hope that the next generation of potential Walt Disneys, Bill Gates'es, Mark Zuckerbergs and Coco Chanels might be inspired to launch their business model and take the world by storm by the stories of some of the greatest businessmen and women of our time.

History of Entrepreneurs' Day

Entrepreneurs' Day, an insofar American holiday, was started in 2010 by David Hauser and Siamak Taghaddos, co-founders of Grasshopper, the entrepreneur's phone system, as well as Amir Tehrani, entrepreneur and co-founder of The Legacy Foundation. The holiday falls on the last day of Global Entrepreneurship week, during Entrepreneurship Month and is meant to be a way of showing gratitude and respect to the people who achieved success, sometimes against all odds, and were able to help a lot of people by creating jobs for them in the process. In 2012, President Barack Obama declared the November of that year as Entrepreneurship Month and to celebrate November 6, 2012 as Entrepreneurs' Day. Supporters of Entrepreneurs' Day are trying to make it an actual official US holiday that would fall on the third Tuesday of very November.

How to Celebrate Entrepreneurs' Day

On this day, entrepreneurs are encouraged to thank mentors, give funding and advice, and spread the word about how to achieve success in business. People who are not yet successful entrepreneurs might want to read the biography of a particularly successful business man or woman in order to inspire themselves. Groups of like-minded people, be they friends, college students or businessmen just getting their start might want to meet up to talk about the lives of some of these people, and the steps they took in their lives to become as successful as they did, conduct a sort of analysis of the person's life and achievements. They can also take this time to brainstorm new ideas or present their own ideas theories to the group in order to get feedback and constructive criticism.

Last but by no means least, people who feel the need to show entrepreneurs thanks and respect for their achievements can take to social media to spread awareness about Entrepreneur's Day, so it can one day become a real holiday. Everyone knows the power of the internet, so even sharing a simple photo and message from Entrepreneurs' Day's website can help the target of 50,000 votes needed to ask congress to pass the creation of an official Entrepreneurs' Day to be hit.

I Love to Write Day

Writing is not just for acclaimed authors. After all, they had to start somewhere too, and even though it may seem hard to believe, every famous writer started the first chapter of their first book with just one word. I Love to Write day was founded by author John Riddle, a non-fiction and self-help writer, to get kids writing in schools and encourage adults to rekindle an old dream. This special day is celebrated by many different organisations schools, community halls, churches, and even shopping centres. It covers all genres, from novels to poetry to writing in to your local newspaper with a point you've always wanted to make but never found time for before. The aim is to get people to sit down and put something on paper or on a computer, however short and in whatever style, kick-starting their writing and giving them confidence through being part of a global movement.

History of I Love to Write Day

I Love to Write Day was created in 2002 by Delaware-based author John Riddle. Riddle has been writing for the past thirty years and has written a total of 34 books so far. When asked why he decided to create a day dedicated to the love he and many other people have for writing, he said, "My goal for I Love To Write Day is to have people of all ages spend time writing. They can write a poem, a love letter, a greeting card, an essay, a short story, start a novel, finish a novel...the possibilities are endless. (...) People need to be challenged, and writing is but one of many creative ways to express yourself. (...) For many people, that (I Love to Write Day) will be the beginning of their writing career. I Love To Write Day has the potential to launch the career of the next John Grisham, Mary Higgins Clark, Stephen King or Toni Morrison. An honorable goal, indeed!

How to Celebrate I Love to Write Day

The best way to celebrate this special day is to do as John Riddle has always intended for people to do on this daywrite something. It doesn't have to be anything specific, and it doesn't have to be long. Many people believe that in order to start writing at all you absolutely need to have the entire plan for your book formed in your mind, and that when you start the writing process, the story should just spill right onto your paper and go on to become an instant New York Times bestseller. This, however, is a misconception. "The Bluest Eye took Toni Morrison 5 years to complete, and was based on a children's story she had heard in elementary school. Joan Didion was inspired to write "Run, River after catching a glimpse of a newspaper blurb about a murder. And Stephen King's esteemed horror classic "Carrie was rejected 30 (!) times before someone agreed to publish it. As you can surely see by now, even the best-known writers have had their difficulties, so you should never become discouraged, and just continue to write and expand on your idea until you've achieved your goals. To make things particularly interesting on I Love to Write Day, you could also consider holding a writing and reading party with your friends. Whatever you do, take advantage of this day to make sure your potential does not go to waste!

Philanthropy Day

This most generous of holidays was founded to promote and celebrate giving in all its forms. The festival is also a grassroots movement to praise and encourage kindness wherever it occurs. The aim of the celebration is actually twofold to raise awareness of the importance of philanthropy, and encourage those not already involved to throw themselves into volunteer and charity work, and to acknowledge the efforts of those who already work to help their fellow humans, and deserve to be celebrated. Nobody has to be a philanthropist, but many choose to be, and make a world of difference in the world.

History of PhilanthropyDay

The concept was originally thought up and then organized by Douglas Freeman in the 1980s. The first National Philanthropy Day awards luncheon was held in cities across the country in 1986, after President Ronald Reagan proclaimed November 15 as National Philanthropy Day. President Ronald Reagan was the first world leader to declare an official Philanthropy Day, to celebrate the love of humankind'. Every year since then, communities across the globe have celebrated by hosting events to recognize activities of donors, volunteers, foundations, leaders, corporations, and others engaged in philanthropy.
