Ram Kapoor, one of television's biggest stars, is now turning on the charm for the big screen in Mere Dad Ki Maruti.
Q. You are finally in the title role in a film.
A. I may be but I play second fiddle to Saqib Saleem who is the lead. I just hope people like the film.
Q. What did you enjoy about your role?
A. That I play this rather loud and obnoxious Punjabi dad who is always at war with his son.
Q. What creative inputs have you made?
A. I suggested the film's title. Also, I abuse my son a lot in the film and I have added some of the creative abuses.
Q. How colourful is your language off screen?
A. I abuse a lot but I do it out of love, not anger.
Q. How are you handling TV and films?
A. I never do more than one TV show at a time. So I give half a month to TV and the remaining 15 days to films.
Q. What's happening on the film front?
A. I will be playing lawyer in a Nagesh Kukunoor film and the main villain in Santa Banta. I also have a role in Shaadi Ke Side Effects.
Q. Did you ever see yourself as the traditional Bollywood hero?
A. Absolutely not. My inspiration lies in the West, in Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro. Closer home, it's Sanjeev Kumar. I only want to be known as a good actor.
Q. Have you considered losing weight?
A. I may for health reasons but my career is on an upswing and I want to focus on that for now.
Q. How did you go from being fit to fat?
A. Because of too much work. I was completely overworked; I would eat and sleep at the wrong time.
