Food for Thought - about Simran

Maybe this is a useless topic because it pertains to a scenario that occurred a long time ago - WHY DID SIMRAN HIDE AASTHA's IDENTITY FROM HER?

I was just wondering about this because Simran comes across as a responsible, sensible, amiable woman. Why then would she hide something so vital to Aastha's life? I came up with different reasonings:

1) As a defense mechanism - Simran herself had lost her child AASTHU....while Gudiya's parents disappeared - her mom dead and her dad irresponsible as ever! Maybe Simran wanted to heal both the wounds by considering herself a real mom to Gudiya and calling Gudiya her real child....does this make sense? She wanted to forget both their woes by hiding Aastha's genetics and forging a bond of oneness. Thus, this lie was a defense mechanism to stop the hurt that resided deep in her heart.

2) Dilemma about when to tell - When could she tell Aastha? 5 would have been too small an age......by 10, Aastha could have developed a sense of insecurity after learning the truth, thus wanting to live with her emotionally unstable Dadi who could not provide the resources to rear her.....hell, even at 18, Aastha is not mature enough to understand the love that Simran showered throughout her childhood.....yes, she is hurt, but her actions are beyond tolerance! So, when could Simran tell Aastha?

3) Dilemma about WHAT to tell - This is much harder. Even if Simran had made up her mind to tell Aastha the truth, what could she tell her? Remember, this is not a case where the parents die, thus allowing no other option for the kid. yes, Gudiya's mom is dead....but her dad has abandoned her.....what could Simran say - "Baccha! Your mom died giving birth to you....Not long after you were born, your dad abandoned you....my child too disappeared. Thus, to soothe my hurt and yours, your grandparents gave me the responsibility of rearing you?" 😕I am mighty sure Aastha would have then cursed herself for being responsible for her mom's death, her dad's disappearance, and would have falsely thought of herself as a replacement for the real Aastha, thus hating her mom! She would forever consider herself an outsider, thus affecting her psychologically!

4) HOW MUCH should Simran tell Aastha - What are the details Simran should have added to her story.....should she start from her marriage to Abhimanyu, his betrayal, Kiran, Neha etc etc....because it's quite obvious that neglecting any detail would anger AASTHA....she would want to know the whole truth - she would know that her dad was a cassanova, a cheater, a liar who, to add cherry to the cream, also abandoned her.....she could forever hate herself!

Thus, while I do not support Simran's decision to hide the truth, I believe it's important to reason why she did so....she is not a bad person.....she is a very nice woman who only provided wholehearted, unconditional love to her Aastha! Hence, I believe its necessary to understand such a character before slinging mud at her!

Maybe Simran would have revealed the truth had Abhi not disappeared - cuz then Aastha would feel more secure and respect Simran's love.....maybe she didn't want to take the risk of letting the cat out of bag, fearing its repercussions and Aastha's future life!

Keep in mind that every adoption scenario is different - I know children who did not feel any difference after learning that they were adopted, I know families that have suffered cuz of the revelation, and I also know of parents who haven't revealed anything......!

You might still not accept Simran's decision, but you might feel more at ease with it.....I know I have!

Sorry if this topic was wholly unnecessary! But since I believe that this Astitva forum is replete with mature members who love intelligent discussions, I thought you might find it interesting!

Hi kitty,
Your topic is not unnecessary or uninteresting. It's just that it was discussed for more than a month. There were diverse views on who is right and wrong and the reasons to justify simran's decision.
Please don't be disappointed if you don't see many responses.Because of the 2 week gap in the programme between India and USA,you might have missed it.Most members in Us and other countries rely on Sree's updates and follow the serial.

Cheers
