Part 2 a - Engagement Preparations

(Anu's apartment)
Anupama and Anuj were sitting on the floor, side by side, with a cup of tea in their hands, talking.. Anuj puts his cup on the table, and gently puts his arm around Anu's shoulder..
She smiles, and leans a bit closer to him.. putting her cup away and slowly keeping her head on his chest..

Anuj : "Anu.."
Anu : "Hmm.."
Anuj : "Anuuu kal humaari sagai hai"
Anu : "Haan.. ab.. woh kya kehte hain.. main opphicially aapki ho jaungi.. aur aap mere"...😊
Anuj : "Main toh humesha se tumhaara tha Anu.. accha.. ab venue toh decide hogaya, humaare building ki terrace, decoration aur rituals ka sab bacche aur baaki family sambhal lenge.. kapdo ka kya.. tum kya pehenne waali ho?"
Anu: "woh yaad hai navratri me devika ne mujhe lehenga diya tha.. usme hi kich change karke pehen lungi.. woh aapke kapdo se matching bhi hoga.."

Anuj (confused): "Mere kapde?"

Anu: "woh.. ekaj minute..main abhi aati hu"

she rushes inside and gets a paper bag, and hands it to Anuj, gesturing him to open it..
He opens it and finds a royal blue and white three piece suit, he looks at Anu questioningly

Anu : " woh dance competition me trophy ke saath saath paise bhi mile the ne prije (prize) me, toh maine ye..usme se.. aapke liye.. "
After a pause.. continues
"Aapko pasand to aaye ne? Agar nahi aaya toh koi baat nahi hum kal exchange karwa denge.. and goes on.. "

Anuj who is overwhelmed, that his Anu was so strict about spending money, even in such a situation, spent a part of her prize money for him.. and is yet doubtful whether he'll like the gift..
He just pulls her into a hug and kisses her forehead saying..

Anuj : " Thank you Anu, I love you.. I love you so much..."

Anu : "Main bhi.. "

Slowly, unwillingly, the pull away from the hug..

Anu : " Ab bohot raat ho gayi hai Anuj, ap apne ghar jaiye aur so jaiye.. kal subhe phirse shakkar maangne aa jaiyega"

Anuj : " Haan woh toh main aa jaungi.. par meri jo padosi haina.. bohot ajeeb hai.. hamesha shakkar maangne aata hu.. roz chai pilati hai.. par shakkar toh kabhi nahi deti"

Anu : " toh aap bina bartan liye aayenge.. bell bajaake hero jaise dawarze pe haath rakhke khade hojayenge.. toh shakkar kya aapki pocket me degi woh "

Anuj :" Khud ka bartan bhi toh de sakti haina.. main thodi na chura lunga.."

Anu: " Chura lete toh.. "
Blushing and in a low voice.. "dil toh waise hi chura liya hai"

Anuj heard this and started smiling from ear-to-ear

Anuj :" Accha ji.. ab aisi baatein karengi aap toh hum kaise jaayenge.. tum kaho toh aaj raat yahin ruk jaun?"

Anu pushes him away.. towards the door..

He steps out.. and she's about to close the door after saying goodnight..when he suddenly calls out her name.. and she opens the door..

Anuj : "Anu.. suno.. waise.. woh..navratri waala lehenga maine hi liya tha tumhaare liye...
Good night!!"

And leaves.. and Anu is yet again surprised and overwhelmed seeing the depth of his love..

(The next morning)
Anu wakes up.. and goes to the kitchen to make tea.. knowing that her shayar kapadia will be here soon..

She spots a parcel on the kitchen counter.. she picks it up and opens it to find a gorgeous,lightweight baby pink saree, with silver sequins on the border and scattered on the saree too..
She sees a piece of paper peeking in from beneath the saree.. she takes it.. one look at the handwriting and she knows who it is from..
Even if she wouldn't have recognised the handwriting.. what was written inside would have definitely told her that..

The note read -

Jab pehli baar deedar hua tha unka,
Yahi rang tha unke kapdon ka
Jab pehli baar mohabbat hui thi unse
Yahi dhang tha unki adaaon ka

Tab pehli baar ibaadat ki thi unki
Ab ye ibadat aadat ban gayi hai

26 saalon se bas ek khwaab tha mera..
Aaj usse mukammal hote hue dekhne ka haq
chahunga
Ishq ke iss rang ko unpar saja hua
Aaj phir ek baar dekhna chahunga

The back of the note read...
Ye meri iss nayi partnership ki pehli kamai mese khareedi hui pehli cheez..

At the same time.. the doorbell rang, she opened the door and leapt into the arms of the beautiful human standing there.. and he stepped in, closing the door with one hand and holding her with the other.. while she just thanked all the stars and gods for this moment and wished to stay in the moment, in his arms, forever..

Phew.. this was a complete maan romance part..
Hope it wasn't too long or cheesy or boring.. but yeah.. I tried..
I worked extra hard to write the shayari.. it's the first time I've ever done that in my life.. do let me know how it is.. (y'all can say terrible too)
