Niri, the serial has to run for another six months or so (according to Sharp's "insider's" information), so aamai vegam is expected. You shouldn't complain about vedhalam climbing up the murungai tree when Priya shrugs off ACD in a new scene showed during the title song. The more interesting point is that ACD actually tried to grab her hand (or was it touch her shoulder?). That would never have happened earlier. Yeah!!! I am eager to watch that change in him. As it is, he has already begun referring to Priya as "nee" once again rather than "neengal" (which was the stodgy form of address he used at the police station when she went to thank him for saving her from the kidnappers). He first used the informal form of address at the kids' park even though he initially had to speak to Priya through Indu.

Yes Bon, Infact I was irritated by the way that Joe guy spoke especially in Tamil. I'm sure S'poreans speak better Tamil than the way we are portrayed in serials and movies. Whenever I'm in India, people get surprised that I'm as a s'porean, speak well in Tamil They often say that they thought that i'm a malaysian as for them malaysians speak better tamil than s'poreans.... {i'm not saying that s'poreans speak better but is just that the film industry has made us to be people who no longer speak tamil or practise our indian culture}. Hope that i've not offended anyone.

Oops, maaf, maaf. I am not getting into any international politics here. What I meant to say was that Bril was introduced as a man from Singapore in the first few episodes when he appeared but in Monday's episode he was introduced as someone from Malaysia. Cheyar's continuity boys are sleeping. Of course, the economic and family ties between Singapore and Malaysia are close and businessmen and families do move about freely between the two countries, so SKPD and SR (and Cheyar himself) may have been confused about where exactly Bril hails from;-)

But I do agree with One & Only that most Singaporean Tamils today do speak Tamil. They may not speak senthamizh and they may have adapted Malay words into their Tamil (ammam-lah), but they certainly don't speak the fake English-accented Tamil that Bril speaks. On a separate matter, ie., Bril expressing surprise at Abhi's irritation when he whistled in the car. While there are admittedly several cultural differences between Singaporean/Malaysian Indians and Indian Indians, it is definitely considered impolite in Singapore/Malaysia for a man to whistle in a woman's presence. (I think this applies to any culture, including Western culture.)

So, in short, Singaporean Indians haven't forgotten their language or their Indian culture. The fact that we and other diasporic Indians are able to watch and understand Anandham alongside Indians from India and to engage in discussion and forge friendships through this great forum amply shows that geography is immaterial. This is a connected global village.

But I wouldn't blame Cheyar for perpetuating some of the stereotypes about us diaspora Indians. He may not have travelled or spent enough time in this part of the world. I therefore invite him, his crew, ACD, Priya, etc, to visit Singapore (and Malaysia) on holiday soon. Or better still, they can even shoot one episode here. I offer up my fictional chapter titled "A foreign affair" as a possible plot for an episode to be shot in this region ;-)

Put on your tour guide's cap, Caryn ;-)

He tries to touch her shoulder, not what I had said earlier (tries to grab her hand). And its nice to watch it too, such a welcome change. Finally CR has heard you Bon. It will be too bad if Priya is going to resort to her old ways of avoiding ACD, she seemed so relieved just hearing him coming yesterday. I just hope she does not climb the drumstick tree.

Shylock, I enjoyed watching the entry of ACD Durai into the Police Station - What a gambiram, style, cumma solakudathu! Apapa!

I was glad Rajan(my husband) was not home at that time, otherwise he would have been jealous! 😆

Pat, agreed on the gambiram as ACD appeared. Shylock, agreed too that Priya was not just relieved on seeing ACD at the station but also couldn't help looking at him with yearning as he left the Station. I guess it's not the kind of yearning associated with love and affection but one associated with her desperate situation. Still, for us fans who have been suffering from a famine of ACD-Priya scenes, that was a real feast.

I was reading all the disucssions about Joe Brill being from Singapore and not being able to speak Tamil and that people from Singapore and Malaysia can speak Tamil etc. Agreed to all but you know Joe Brill could have been a recent migrant from India settled in Singapore. One of the Indians from other parts of India and not from TamilNadu. I mean I have met a lot of people like that in Singapore and Malaysia. so appdiyae vachikalaam...that he is not a tamilian but a indian recently migrated to singapore and learning tamil from friends. so adhaan englishmm therila tamilmm therila. Propably he knows only Hindi. 😆
