iDubba reviews the first week of Sony Tv's new show 'Anamika'

The fear of unknown is now amalgamated with the fear of the unnamed…Anamika the new serial on Sony Entertainment Telvision has live through its first week without disappointing. We have brought a special first week report of Anamika for those who love supernatural fiction without the unnecessary accessories that takes the thrill away from the thriller.

Whenever I see Anamika one song definitely cross my mind, the song from Mission Kashmir "Dhuan Dhuan, Dhuan Dhuan, Dhuan Dhuan, Dhuan hi Dhuan" as the screen for this supernatural show is usually covered with thick fog to bring in the much required spookiness and creepiness. Well no complaints there…at least the makers spared us from horrifyingly bad nail art or even worse dead skin make or something on these line. In an attempt to scare you, the thriller and horror makers end up in making you laugh at their audacity. Instead of making you feel fear through sound effects, story or concepts they force feed you spoonful of Creepy, Halloween and eerie atmosphere. Right now I can proudly say at least not today as Trishulla Productions' Anamika is not among the usual league of thrillers, but a tat bit different.

Fear is a manifestation of mind and the creatives of Anamika fully understand this and imply in the making of this show. The concept of 'Chudail' has been clear in the promos so they are taking that the audiences knows this and thus using the minimalistic and subtle hints to bring down that chill in your spine.

The First Week: The story revolves around the lead Jeet (enacted by Mudit Nayyar), his best friend Rano (played by Annie Gill) and the unnamed aka Anamika (played bySimran Kaur). While Anamika is playing the mystery and hard to get girl for Jeet, he is obviously interested in the woman who appears every now and then around him with her white old car, rarely speaks something and when does it not often makes sense, her hair is usually glued to her one eye and the other eye is decked up by makeup to emphasize on the eeriness in her attitude and aptitude.

The friendship between Rano and Jeet is almost a filmy story…friends from childhood, fight all day but can't live without each other, Rano realises her love and Jeet doesn't. Rano uses her good beti charm with Jeet's father and had bought him three years for fulfilling his dream of becoming a renowned boxer and protects him from his father's scrutiny always. While Rano enters a full world on mood swing whenever the topic of her marriage surfaces, as she feels Jeet doesn't reciprocates her feelings. Jeet on the other hand tries hard to manage Rano with lots of small gestures of care and bribery and ultimately succumb to emotional blackmail of best friends forever. While Jeet is busy pepping up for a major match and figuring out the mystery woman (Chudail), the story continues to build itself stronger and sharper by the day.

Ting Tong: A few things that rang a bell in my mind. They live in Mohali and mist surrounds them always, Jeet still manages to wear a very thin layered jacket to protect him from cold but other than him, everyone is strong enough to survive the cold. No one in the family has a Punjabi tone attached to their ascent, which is usually a characteristic; all they manage to do is call the 'dadi' as 'bebe'. Except the mist there is no proper attestation that they live near Chandigarh.

The Actors: The leads of the show are debutants and accordingly their performance is quite convincing, just the Punjabi punch is missing. Those who know some Chandigarh ka 'munda' or 'mundi' would definitely understand my point. I really loved Jeet's father's character sketch and the portrayal, being strict on one side and extreme caring but not showing on the other. The 'bebe' is a treat for your eyes. Her tablet is her bible. She will play, upload pictures and update status, a high tech fun loving dadi for sure.

Another angle of Triangle: Like a good player the makers have shown and yet not shown the ace of their card game. Rano's sister is lost in herself in the two scenes she is shown. So is she ill or under somebody's influence?

Ohh!! That's Nice: The serial is shot like the story is in a third person's perspective and that third person is keeping a close eye on everyone (may be that's whyAnamika's one eye is usually hidden ). Almost in every scene and conversation the camera focuses from an angle from outside or far away to indicate and emphasize the third eye.

The art direction and cinematography of this show definitely stands out. They have managed to bring both homely and gloomy feel to the family home as and when required. Nothing is way over the top. The fog, lights and shadows, sounds etc., brings in an interesting and entertaining quotient to the show and the cherry on top of the cake is that all this is balanced out with funny, light and bright sequences in the episodes.

Competition: Anamika on Sony TV at the 8pm slot, Balika Vadhu of Colors, Devon Ke Dev Mahadev on Life OK, Rab Se Sohna Isshq on Zee TV. Also the highly popular Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon on Star Plus would have been a tough opponent however it's ending and the new show Kaali- Ek Punar Avatar has given Anamika a vacuum to fill. Now how well the show fits the bill of 8 pm prime rime is a matter of waiting and watching. All we can do is wish Anamika all the very best and ask them to continue their current approach of not really scaring but inflicting fear and hence entertaining.

Do send us your Veiws, Reviews, Comments and suggestion about this supernatural show…Till then Keep Watching, Keep Enjoying and Keep Reading
