What do you think people vote for? What are the key influencing factors, given the results that we have been seeing in VOI and also previously in other reality shows?

First of all Jaya ji, you should have opened this topic/poll in either the II or SRGMP section which are teeming with members and each topics/discussions go for pages together with heated debates and continuous arguments(and sometimes it is an all out online pitched battle). I remember when you had opened a topic in SRGMP section when M***I topped the votes which attracted unprecedented responses and was on the top for week.

ASVOI as far as IF is concerned has failed to attract meaningful discussions and member interest so it is sad that your honest effort will get ignored with only handful members and fans who dreamt of tasting something different from the usual fare dished out. This lack of interest is somewhat reflected in the TRP race as well since we all know ASVOI is lagging behind and with the rival show/s running parallel it is unlikely to pick up steam in the later stages.

Sorry to be pessimistic but any how here are my guesses on the voting pattern which i think nowadays even a kid in 5th grade can predict.

1. The followers read dedicated voters identify their favourites in the early days of the show and stick on to them until they are eliminated. Then they move on to their second favourite if any and so on. In some case the frustration of their beloved's exit makes them angry and some crazy fans might resort to negative voting i.e vote for the rival of their hated contestant.

2. Regional bias in voting is very much evident and it is a very rare occasion when somebody votes for a different person when a singer of their own region is in the fray even though on that particular day the other singer might have sung better.

3. Voting for handsome/pretty faces might be prevalent more in female fans, since even though male viewers admire a female contestant for her looks , they might not go the extent of spending their money on sending votes. They might just enjoy drooling over her every week and forget about voting(Please don't beat me for this😃😆😆).

4. I think nobody cares for the judges or their comments. Here I would like to add that adverse comments by the judges on their favourites sometimes anger the fans and they might go on a voting frenzy just to prove the judges wrong and make them eat their words.

trishanku3, nice explanation...

Adverse comments from the judges could possibly make people vote for their favorites even more. It could explain the elimination of some singers who always get good comments but nothing out of the norm.

Jaya.. Great topic.. I've been a silent lurker of the forum thus far and its interesting to see more meaningful posts and thread lately. This one is indeed another one of such great discussions 😛 ~

I think all the points have been pretty much covered by "trishanku3". At the end of the day, talent is definitely not sought out here but contests like these rather get decided on popularity basis. I'm not an Indian so when I vote for somebody, I try to look for something innovative, different, something that touches the chords of my heart... And so forth.. I try to remain as unbiased as possible.. But at the end of the day, you'll see the talented singers end up as runner ups almost 99% of times.. Quite a sad reality.. *sighs*

At the end of the day, voting is decided by a blend of all of those factors that u just stated.. Sometimes, it swings the right way and most of the times, its heart-wrenching to experience...

Cheers,
Sana~

@Trishanku - thanks for a detailed post.. you have indeed covered a lot of salient points in your post... Your initial words may just encourage me to open a similar thread in the SRGMP section... Let me see 😛

@Sonya - You have a very valid point.. One of the key reasons I think Abhaas ends up in bottom 4 often is because we usually often take him for granted and think.. "that he is anyway blessed and has been the most consistent - so all must be voting for him.. let me vote for someone who could be in danger".. end result, Abhaas does not get as many votes!!

@Sana - Agree that Reality Shows cease to be talent competitions anymore.. Its all about popularity, visual appeal and other factors... I wonder if someone will be corageous enough to give us a show that will be only about talent... Wouldnt it find some niche audience, when all of us here are pining for the same??

I have also voted for - "People just vote for their favorites" here... That seems to be the most generic trend in all these reality shows!

Just go by favorites... Beyond that, even if he sings badly, or doesnt sing at all, the fans will vote for the favorite😆 The other thing that matters a lot is attitude of the contestant... Arrogance generally means out of the show soon...

But what makes a "favourite" is the question that I think underlies Jaya's poll.

My own answer would be flawless singing to start with and then I tend to be fairly loyal in my voting (not in my analysis as much). What makes me blacklist people is something in their attitude. If a contestant lies between those two categories there is every chance of them joining an evergrowing list of favourites.

By the time I start voting, I already have favourites and a blacklist of sorts that I tend to adhere to.

sometimes a favorite is identified very fast ... like abhilasha for me ... just one performance and she was my favorite ... sometimes they grow on you ... like mirande ... yet others are past favorites ... like abhaas ...
what makes someone a favorite for me is
1) technically good singing not necessarily perfect
2) touches a chord in me somewhere somehow ... cant really define how ... irfan does that with some performances

and yes attitude puts me off too! it might not really be the fault of the singer, sometimes they are told to act in a particular manner but nevertheless the attitude is what i see as a viewer and it does put me off sometimes ...

as far as the judges comments are concerned i dont bother anymore 🤢
