For Prantika Mukherjee, she was four when Chehra hai ya chaand khila hai from Saagar, caught her attention and had her sing it, much to the amazement and delight of her parents. A blessing from God, her parents say. Hearing Prantika sing, you'd agree she's divine. An audition tape made for Sa Re Ga Ma has her singing, Dil cheez kya hai from Umrao Jaan . It's very reminiscent of Asha's original version. A student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, she's been at the fore of all the singing competitions at school and needless to say, whenever she's picked up the mike she's picked up the first prize as well. Prantika has outgrown her first teacher, her mother Lipika, and is training under Sangita Mitra right now. But along with her voice she's focussed on completing her B.Com. with computers. "Because a basic educational level is a must," says her father K C Mukherjee. But for her, almost approaching religion is her four-hour riyaz everyday, which she will not miss. In tune with the taals and ragas, her grasp of semi classical and popular music is growing by the day. She's gearing up for her Sa Re Ga Ma audition right now. But the city has already heard her sing at Dussera and Diwali functions. At 17, she's looking forward to taking the playback profession by storm, "Though I'm comfortable with Hindi and Bengali songs I'm just waiting to try out the other languages as well." Fight for wild card entry to 'SaReGaMaPa Challenge 2007' begins.


The talent hunt show 'SaReGaMaPa Challenge 2007' (Zee) is one where all youngsters above the age 18, blessed with a good voice want to be part of. Auditions were held by Esselworld Tonite in Mumbai and Ahmedabad recently to get a wild card entry to the show through its Festive Champ Event.

Director of SaReGaMaPa, Gajendrra Siingh introduced the 10 winners at the launch party of Esselworld Tonite. They will perform during the Navratras with previous SaReGaMaPa winners like Debojit, Himani, Sharib, Ujjaini, Shweta, Aiswarya, Banjyotsna and the little champs from the current series on Zee.

Commenting on this event, Jagat Verma, COO, Pan India Paryatan Ltd., said, "In SaReGaMaPa we found a perfect connect with the youthful and talented audience and hence at Esselworld we decided to create a platform for them to get a wild card entry into SaReGaMaPa Challenge 2007. Navratras is one of the most involving and engaging festivals especially in Mumbai and Gujarat that attracts largely young people from all walks of life."

The ten participants are Saket Bairoliya, Bhavin Dhanak, Saumya Srivastava, Prantika Mukherjee, Surabhi Dashputra, Tanya Gupta, Sumit Khatri, Sangeeta Sodhi, and Manish Karmchandaini. Eminent personalities -Shaan, Jatin-Lalit, Alka Yagnik, Ismail Darbar, Dabbu Malik, Shreya Ghosal, amongst others - from the music world will judge their performances and pick one winner.
