I noticed that Anita calls her inlaws 'auntie' and 'uncle' and so does Abhi
Anita I can understand cus she is an idiot
But why is Abhi calling his father in law 'uncle ji'
Is this some kinda new trend in Delhi or India
Cus here in Canada inlaws are addressed as mom and dad with some alterations to the actual addressing due to culture
I find it kinda disrespectful

So do I...I find a lot of rishtay in India are relegated to auntie and uncle status.

Here we actually say masi or bhau..chachi, tayi...there you hear auntie.

Its Indians trying to be trendy and modern...but losing family values is not cool! 👎🏼

Abhi calls them Auntyji and Uncleji but respects them more than Anuj I feel. So the behaviour is important than a respect in namesake.

We are very conservative here in Bangladesh. Most of us call their FIL and MIL mummy and papa. But many of my friends call them uncle and auntie.I think respecting is the most important thing in any relationship.

well if that were the case, then why not call our parents by their names?
If i respect my parents but call them by their names, would I still be seen as respectful? I wonder

Earlier most marriages were arranged and the bride didn't know her in-laws beforehand, so after marriage she just started calling them mom-dad as per convention.
But these days with love marriages many of us know our inlaws much before marriage - during the courtship period we are friends so we call them uncle-auntie for months even years. It seems awkward to suddenly switch to mom-dad the day one gets married. In-laws also don't seem to mind these days.
In my case I began calling them uncle-auntie and as the years passed even I didn't realise how it evolved into mom-dad.
