CHAPTER - 2
He had to find her, he had to find "The girl with those Beautiful Caramel Eyes".
"She was here just a few seconds ago. Then where did she disappear" he thought to turn around frantically. "What the hell?" he let out a cry, frustrated at his inability to find her. "I, Arnav Singh Raizada, am always in control of any situation. I have a solution to every problem. Everything always went according to my plan and if it did not then I always had a backup plan ready. I was always, always being in total control. Then, what is happening today? Nothing is going as I wanted, as I planned. It may sound stupid but it feels as if someone is conspiring against me?" he stood there thinking. He let out a deep sigh as he came out of his chain of thoughts, wishing for the day to end quickly before causing him more distress and disappointment. As he melancholy turned to go to his sister, corner of his eye caught a flash of those big, mesmerizing, caramel eyes. Before his mind can even register what he saw, his body moved at the speed of light towards his person of interest. There she was standing a couple of feet ahead of him. But to his dismay, right when he turned to see her, she turned around, facing her back to him.
"Damn It! Can't she stand still without moving for a second" he thought miffed. He moved left and right trying to get a glimpse of her face but no luck. He started walking towards her, determined to see her face this time. Fixing his gaze only on her, so that he won't lose her again. As he took each step close to her, moving through the crowd, he studied her. She had a long hair, falling till her hips, tied up into a ponytail. She was wearing a white anarkali, running till her knees and perfectly fitting her body. Simple yet elegant anklets around her ankles, adding more beauty to her already beautiful feet. He could see her milky white hands, filled with white and silver color bangles, moving vigorously in the air.
"Is she talking to someone?" he wondered.
His eyes fell on her slim waist, "it would fit perfectly in his hands". "What? Where did that come from? What the hell am I thinking?" he pondered, forgetting to note his surroundings. Which lead him to walk directly into toys displayed outside a toy store, knocking them down with a huge thud. The crash broke his chain of thoughts and his eyes moved away from her as a reflex action to the impact. The shop owner came running to see the damage. Arnav realizing his mistake immediately looked in the direction where she was standing but she was gone.
The owner stood looking at the mess on the ground and started ranting about his loss, questioning Arnav "Can't you see? Are you blind?" Arnav, who was preoccupied with finding her was not even listening to the owner. He was very agitated for losing her again. "Damn It!" he almost shouted. The owner who was first flabbergasted by Arnav's words, quickly composed himself and started shouting at Arnav. "How dare you shout at me? You ruined my toys and you are shouting? Do you know how much all this costs? Look at me I am talking to you. Are you blind and deaf?" Arnav was infuriated as he listened to the shop keeper. He gave a final, quick glance around hoping to find her before turning to the shop keeper.
The shopkeeper who was still babbling stopped mid-sentence as he saw Arnav's face for the first time when Arnav turned to him taking his glasses. As his eyes met Arnav's he didn't dare to speak one more word. The way Arnav glared at him made him feel very intimidated.
"Who is this guy?" he thought, then corrected his question, wondering "What is this guy?"
Arnav spoke in a very stern voice "How much?" sending a brief shiver through the shopkeeper's spine.
The shopkeeper was looked at him confused. It took him a few seconds to register Arnav's question into his mind. He looked around trying to mentally calculate the loss and stammered "I..Its around 1.... I mean ne... nearly 1500 rupees, Sir".
Arnav took out his wallet, grabbed '3' thousand rupee notes, and handed it to the shopkeeper, and said in the same tone "Keep the extra amount and get everything fixed".
The shopkeeper took the money and thanked him. But before he even completed his thank you Arnav walked past him, looking around, back to his quest. "Why am I this desperate to see her? Why does it feel so important to find her? What is wrong with me? How can Arnav Singh Raizada go around searching for a girl who he didn't even see? Models and women follow him, roam around him, try to get a glimpse of him, try to get his attention. Then, why was he going around this girl? Stop this nonsense Arnav. Stop it right now, before you make a fool of yourself" his mind was warning him, trying to make him think rationally, trying to reason with him. But his actions were quite the opposite of what his brain was telling him to do. He scanned all directions standing where he last saw her.
"Where did she go now? This girl surely can't stay put in one place for a second".
Arnav was losing his patience now. Arnav Singh Raizada was never good with patience or waiting. But today he was testing his limit in both and was really surprised at himself for his achievement. Right when he was on the verge of giving up the search after a few minutes, he saw her or some girl in a white dress. She was walking fast holding something on the other side of the road. He could not see her face or what she was holding with people passing around, the moving traffic but he was now sure that it was her. His gaze followed her as she took a few more steps, came to a halt, and started talking to someone. Arnav followed her gaze to see whom she was talking to and saw an 8 to 10 years old boy who looked like a derelict. He saw her handover the packet that was in her hands to him and the boy grabbed it from her giving her a huge smile. She smiled back at him contented. When he saw her smile, a smile broke on his face too, without him even realizing it. Even though he saw only bits and pieces of her, his heart can still tell, she is a BEAUTY. His desire to see her increased many counts, making him more restless.
"Enough of this hide and seek. I need to see her now" he thought. "This is the last time you are disappearing on me," he told her in his mind. He was at his limit now. He looked at her, she was still standing near the boy, smiling and watching him as he was eating from the packet she gave like someone who could eat a horse. He started crossing the road trying not to take his eyes off her for more than a millisecond at a time and at the same time looking for traffic. "No mistakes this time," he said to himself.
As Arnav reached the other side of the road his phone rang. He checked to confirm she was still there and then looked at his phone. It was Aman.
He immediately picked up "Hello, yes Aman. Did you have any luck arranging for the darshan to be done early?" he asked, his eyes still fixed on her.
"Sorry Sir, no luck. Everyone is saying the same thing. They even added that the number of disciples coming to visit the temple will be more in the next 3 days and offered tickets for later, guaranteeing it will only take 1:30 hrs then".
Arnav inadvertently looked away from her, deep in thought. He can't wait for another 3 days, that would mean he has to be away from work for the next 4 to 5 days which was not what he planned for. He would have to change his entire schedule again. After thinking for a while he was about to tell Aman to pursue other alternatives, when someone knocked him hard from behind, making his phone fly like a bird. As he failed to catch it, it lands a couple of feet away from him and broke into tiny pieces. That crack of his phone broke the last ounce patience he had built for the past couple of minutes, making him forget about his pursuit, why he was there, bringing all the frustration he had bottled up since that morning. He snapped and shouted, anger evident in his voice, rage visible his eyes and tone, "What the? How dare you? Can't you see where you are going? Are you out of your mind? Do you think this footpath is your dad's property?" He said it all in one go before he even turned around and looked at the person who knocked him, who was now lying on the ground behind him.
As he continued showering the wrath of ASR through his words, "People like you should stay in their houses" his eyes landed on the person lying on the footpath. The same white anarkali dress, same milky white hands filled with white, silver color bangles, but her hair was messed up, it was all over her face, covering it from him. He froze in his place as he immediately realized who it was. He stood there gawking her. His heart started beating rapidly, as she slowly moved her hands from ground cleaned them, moved her hair from her face, and looked at him. He let out a gasp, as his chocolate brown eyes met "the most beautiful caramel eyes".
