Advay's eyes had just started dampening when the depth of pain had started hitting his heart. Her dew eyed demand made happiness sparkle up in his eyes,
"Yes, meri Ms. BadBad, ab maine jindagibhar tumhari hee sunani hai. Kaho!"
(Yes my sweet Miss Badbad, now for the whole lifetime, I have to listen to you and you alone. prey tell!)
Chandani closed her eyes and allowed herself the pleasure of all his memories cherished in her heart, "When I first met you, I did not recognize you. I am a complete Damaroo! But not my heart! It knew you immediately and had this maddening urge to melt away in your chocolate brown eyes... to linger in your strong brown arms every time you helped me while falling... to cherish your male scent, your closeness every time you bent to whisper in my ears... "
And ... blushing completely she added, " and when you blew on my face, I felt so aroused that I wanted to be just yours then and there.
Confused with my reactions, I resisted and called you Ajeeb Atarangi singh Raizada. However, when you bled, I couldn't bear it, I wanted to put marham and make it alright for you but you refused. When you were being beaten up by goons, it was my heart that was bleeding watching you.
And you?
Aap ho vahi, jismein aati dahi, ek number ke kulhad.
(You are the one, where we get the curds, number one curds pot)
Kyon nahi bataya ki tum hee mere Dev ho?
Why did you not tell me then itself that you were my Dev.
Every time I was about to guess, you distracted me. When I called out to Dev in Pub incident, my call went to your heart and how safe I felt in your arms! How could you still remain an enigma?
All through my life, my soul reminded my heart of you and the memory flew down my eyes every night. I pined for you every moment and if any moment, I felt happy it was because my heart sang the rhyme you put there, Love Rhyme.
The day you went away, I was sent to Banaras and later... I felt like life had gone away from me. At that age, I just could not understand anything...so I asked everybody about you. They told me you and your family had gone away.
I cried everyday and waited for you. I wrote you letters and put them in the Ganges;... trusting that she would take them wherever you were. I waited on the banks for days together hoping that someday you would write back to me.
I sent balloons the way you had taught me and wanted God to listen to my prayers. The eight year old, tumhari apni Chandu, did every possible thing to bring you back. Bhagawan to bachchon ki sunate hain na, phir meri hee kyon nahi sunate the?" (God listens to innocent kids, then why did he not listen to me as a child?)
Her voice had gone hoarse with pain. Dev patted her cheeks in a caressing touch.
"When nature's cycle made me first step in to womanhood, I was scared but at the same time I was very happy. You don't know this; but Once when I obstinately demanded to be married to you then itself, Maaji had told me...
I could marry you when I grew from a small girl to a woman. For me it meant that nature had already given its avowal for my marrying you.
I am not complaining, but once think from a woman's perspective. Sita had to give agnipariksha and you made me go through the same??... Ahalya was defamed; you put me through the same in your eyes? ?As advay doing these things, it was hurtful but as My very own Dev doing it, it was unbearable."
Advay's face winced in pain. What had he done to his Chandu? But he did not say a word. He wanted her to pour her out.
"As I was growing up, your memories deepened instead of fading away. I would be lost in your daydreams all the time. There wasn't any communication from you or about you. So I imagined that you were angry at me about our fight that last night before the mishap. Mujhe aapka krodh manjoor tha; par aapaka mujhe bhool jana nahi.
In my heart I was married to you, I took your room as my room, every time I was scared, I held onto your stone for strength. Even during Mahapooja when you publicly humiliated me, I had run away; but then I closed my eyes and took your name. Throughout our tashan encounter, I drew the strength from you to fight you.
Right from childhood, I had not had mother's love and I was ready to do anything for it. I tried all the time to please my mother so that she would love me. When I brought my mother to our hiding place, I did not know at all that there was crowd following us. She tricked me, Dev! She tricked an eight year old and made her responsible for the death of a happy family. Can anyone do that to even an enemy, then why me?"
Chandani was sobbing heavily and could not speak further. Advay gathered her tightly in his arms, " Shhh... shhh."
He shushed her till she could speak again, "Dev, if you were holding onto me with hatred for betrayal, I was holding on to you with pain for separation! We each had our own feelings beyond words which filled our hearts and kept us bound. None of us could let go."... She clutched him so tight that both their breaths would stop.
Oh It's a special feeling
These moments between us
How will I live without you
All their hearts emptied out, both lingered in each other's arms...he kissed her on the forehead... It felt peaceful... then he kissed on her swollen lids... She felt wanting...
His touch grew possessive on her and he kissed on her cheek... She went weak in the leg ... he supported her on his frame...
Touching from head to toe, he couldn't help but press himself hard on her... fire started spreading through her body.
"Aadi!"She exclaimed and he pulled back in surprise with a quizzical look at her.
"Aadi has asked me to keep all his favorite food ready when he returns." She was begging, as this was not the right time with people waiting downstairs.
"So?" He knew she could easily manage that later.
"To mujhe neeche jaana hai." She grumbled while he continued to tantalize her body.(I need to go down)
" To aa jao na... mere neeche."( then why are you waiting? Come down...beneath me!)
" Dhat!" she pushed him away but he wouldn't budge. Instead he picked her and climbed on the bed. His torture continued.
"What was all that lecture you were giving Nani in Sanskrit, I didn't understand a word." He had genuine ignorance on his face.
" Damaroo ho na Aap! (dumb that you are)
Bhojeshu mata... motherly while feeding, minister like when instructing, a maid while doing chores and Rambha(sexy nymph) in bed..."
"Riiight! That one! So, now prove that you are a perfect wife... Shayaneshu Rambha! bemy sexy nymph." Chandani knew she had been tricked. Her body was already making her feel wanton and his tricks making her lose all the battle.
But not so easily, I won't lose to you, Dev! ... "Hum bed mein thode hi na hai?" ( we are not in bed, right?)
"Excuse me, main aur tum bed pe khade hain...(you and I are standing on the bed.
" Din mein thode hi na? " ... ( Surely not in daytime)
Oh! She wants to battle!
"Raat ka restriction to kahi nahi mentioned tumhare shlok mein! "Battle at equals, it was going to be.
(There's no restriction of night mentioned in your hymn)
"Is taraha baar baar karanese mujhe kuchch ho gaya to? " She was playing on emotions. ( By doing this again and again, if anything happens to me then?)
"Ho jaaye isiliye to kar raha hoon! " He was not getting blackmailed. ( I am doing this so that something happens to you.)
"Kya? Ho jaaye Kuchch! Kya ho jaaye? "She was angry at him. ( what? let something happen to me? what should happen?)
"Aachchu!" He closed his lips on hers.
Slow passion is nowhere less passion! He sucked every inch of her body like a butterfly sucking honey from flower. She had the image of their titanic pose on the mount Everest.
The elements... The skies, the space, the air ... all engulfing her and a dam of fire breaking inside her body... if previous sessions had felt like Shiva's Tandav; this one was Parvati's Lasya!
It was getting close to noon. Chandani came down first and looked around. Sheer luck that no one was around! She happily went in the kitchen. When Advay came, he looked around for his brother.
" Miku, Miku... "
The sound of his own call felt so good to his ears. He had called this way sixteen years back and missed it everyday after that.
Miku came immediately, " Thank god, aap aa gaye. Nahi to mujhe gana padata Chal mere bhai tere paav padata hoon!"
(Thank god, you came down...otherwise I would need to sing the song ...come my brother, I beg at your feet
Advay patted his cheek. " Nashta kiya tune?"(Did you have breakfast?)
" Haan bhai! Bharpet kiya, Chhole jo bhabine pahale meri shirt ko khilaaye the, baad mein maine apne pet ko khilaye." Veer was a forever jovial man.
(yes Brother! Ate till full stomach...Had Chhole which Bhabhi had fed to my shirt, later I fed my tummy)
" Tujhe koi takaleef to nahi na yaha? "Advay was so much worried for younger brother. ( not having any trouble here, right?)
" Kuchh bhi nahi bhai, Sab ekdam perfect hai."( None , brother. Everything is perfect)
" Kisi bhee cheej ki jaroorat ho to maang lena, sharamaaoge to nahi?"( If you need anything, just ask. Don't feel shy.)
" Bhai aap Nirupa roy kab ban gaye? Aapki aur meri jodi to Amitabh aur Shashi kapoor ki hai na? Aap kah sakate ho; mere paas bangala hai, car hai... Phir mai kahoonga, mere paas maa hai !"Veer was prankster with everybody.
(Brother why are you becoming Nirupa Roy? You and I are Amitabh and Shashi Kapoor. You can say, I have a bungalow, I have a car... then I'll say I have mother with me.)**
Advay hugged him tight and said, " nahi Miku! Mere paas kuchh nahi tha. Tu nahi tha to main bilkul akela ho gaya tha. Phir kabhi mujhse door mat hona, mere bhai"
(No Miku! I had nothing! When you weren't there, I was left alone...never ever go far from me, oh brother of mine!)
Veer realised what Naani and Maasi had been telling him in the morning was very true. Bhai was very sensitive about him.
He hugged Advay back and said, " Main shayad itna chhota tha ki kisi ko miss bhi nahi kar paaya, par bade bhaai ki kami bahot jyada thee. Isiliye shaayad jab aap mile to pahale aapka paav pakada tha aur pal mein laga ki aap bade bhai ho mere."
(Perhaps, I was so young, I could not even miss anybody...yet the deficiency of brother was always felt. Perhaps because of that, when I met you first, I caught your foot first! And then in a moment I felt you were my big bro)
Advay felt life coming back to him. He had vowed to get everything back that life had taken away from him. Now he was grateful to life for returning back Chandani and Miku both to him.
"Now, tell me what all happened in your life? How did Chandani find you?" Advay had not deciphered the events completely yet.
"Yes Bhai, I'll tell you the whole story. Bhabhi had been searching for me everywhere. She contacted your police friend also, but in vain. She had no other description; except that I was found in Muslim procession and my age. Nobody knows me as Miku; so nobody could help her. As she mentioned, she prayed to God to help her out.
It was sheer coincidence that she came to our home to discuss and explain about Shikha before she went far away. After coming, she immediately clicked with Ammi. They had a long chat when the point came up about my name being Veer while they were muslims. Ammi told her that I was not their real son but found in Muslim procession.
Bhabhi dug deep into details and identified that I was Miku. She was so happy as if she had found a zillion dollar treasure. She gave me the address here and explained me what all had happened. She reminded me of all the childhood memories by narrating each and every smallest incident that had happened then. However, when I asked her to accompany me, she said she did not deserve to live with you."
While Veer was filling in all details, Advay's eyes were moistening further. This girl had gone to this much extent and she did not think herself of worthy of me who tortured her so much.
Suddenly, Advay's phone rang. It was an urgent business call. He had to go to office, though his heart wanted to stay at home and spend time with newly found Bro and wife. It would not be easy either convincing Chandani. It was just next noon after their first night. She was planning a big sumptuous meal for him. He didn't have the heart to disclose the news to her and break her heart. He walked to Nani's room and kept his head on her lap.
" Kya Hua Chiku? Man udaas hai na tera? Meri baat ab jaakar samajh aa rahi hai na?" Nani could really guess his heart's turmoil.
(what happened Chiku? Feeling depressed, right? Now you understand what I was saying, right?)
" Naani, maine hamesha aapki har baat maani; phir Chandani ke baare mein itani badi galati main kyon kar gaya? Maine Chandani ko characterless kaha. Use ek raat mein chhod diya...In front of everybody... Jo Ladki jabse aurat bani tabse sirf meri banake rahi , use mere muh se apane liye aisi baat sunate hue kitana dukh hua hoga. Maine usase Shadi kee; voh bhi nafarat ke vaadon ke saath... ab main pyaar ke vachan use kaise doon?"
(Grandma, everything you said, I always listened to...but only in Chandni's case how come I did such a huge mistake...I called her characterless... I left her after one night of marriage...in front of all...The girl who after coming off to age, lived just keeping herself belonging to me...how hurt that girl must have felt, listening to such words from me... I married her... but with only vows of hatred... how do I give her promises of love, now?)
" Main khush hoon, beta. Tum der aaye durust aaye. Abhi bhi kuchh nahi bigada. Ab usaki jindagi pyaar se bhar daal. Shiv aur Paravati ki shaadi ek sau aath baar hui hai. Tu apani galati asani se sudhar sakata hai."
( I am happy, son... better late than never...nothing has gone wrong yet...now fill her life with happiness...Shiv and Pravati have been married hundred and eight times... you can easily rectify your misatke)
" Nani mujhe office nikalana hoga. Chandani ka dil main aur nahi todana chaahata. Aap chaliye na mere saath use samjhaane."
(Naani, I have to leave for office. I don't want to break Chandni's heart anymore. Would you please come with me to explain to her)
" Nahi beta. Yeh tum dono ki baat hai. Mere dabaav mein aakar Chandani ne kisi baat ko haan nahi karana hai. Ye tum dono ka rasta hai. Uspe pahala kadam daalane mein daro mat. "
(No, Son! This is between two of you. Chandni shouldn't say yes to anything under my pressure. This is love path of you two...don't be scared to put your first foot on it)
Advay went to kitchen alone. Fragrant smell of food made him feel suddenly hungry. Chandani was standing with her back to him. He started tentatively, "Chandani..."
" Arre Aap yaha kitchen kyon aaye? Bhook lagi hai kya aapako? Kuchh halkasa jhatke bana doon aapke liye? Aap baithake apne Miku ke saath gappe ladaaiye; main do minute mein aayee. Mera bas..."
(Hey! Why are you here in kitchen? Are you hungry? Should I make something light for you fast? You go and chat with Miku, I'll come in two minutes, I just need to..."
Advay kept a finger on her lips. " Tum bahot bolati ho, miss Badbad ! Kabhi apne pati ki bhi suna karo."
(You chatter a lot, Miss Badbad. Sometimes listen to your hubby also)
" Kahiye!" (Speak)
" Voh kya hai na... "Advay was at total loss of words this time. " Maine subah mein itana khaaya... itana to main kabhi khata nahi hoon na!"
( Look...it's so that...I ate such a lot in the morning...I never eat so much, you know!)
" To?" Chandani was wondering why her witty hubby had suddenly gone baffled.
(So?)
" To voh kya hai... main soch raha tha ki..."
( So ...it is so... i was thinking...")
" Kya soch rahe the? Aap itne hichkicha kyun rahe ho? Apni patni se vaise to aapako kabhi sharam aati nahi, to ab kyon?"
( what were you thinking? Why are you hesitating so much? Otherwise, you are never shy with your wife, why now?)
Her flirting mood helped Advay's nerves get little calmer.
" Main aaj lunch jara late karane ki soch raha tha... Pet ko thoda vakt to dena chaahiye na? Kahi tabiyat kharab ho gayee to? " He expected this to work.
(I am thinking of having my lunch late. I need to give my tummy some time interim, right? If I fall sick then...?")
" Aap kaam par ja rahe ho?" Chandani was blunt in her question
(You are going to work?)
And that scared Advay." Nahi... matlab vaisa nahi... main jana nahi chaahata... mujhe yahi ghar pe rahana hai... par vo kya hai na..."
( no...not like that...not that I want to go...I want to stay here at home...but you know what? It's so that...)
" Arre! Bas! Kitna bolate ho aap bhi! Jaana hai to khushi khushi jaaeeye aur jaldi se vaapas aana. Aur haan maine aapake favourite noodles banaaye hai unhe khaakar jaana. Bhooke pet baahar nahi jaate."
(Enough! How much you talk! If you need to go, go happily and come back soon. And I have made your favorite noodles, eat them before you leave...never leave home empty stomach)
She served noodles in a plate and brought it to Advay. He had not expected her to be so accommodating. Every act of hers made him love her all the more. He refused to take the plate and indicated that she feed him.
" Aadi ko bhi feed nahi karana padata. Aap bachche ho kya?"
( Aadi doesn't need to be fed. You are a kid or what?)
" Sanskrit shlok kya hai, Bhojeshu mata and all that?"
( what's the sanskrit hymn...feed like mother and all)
He was unbeatable. With a smiling face, she complied. Life felt sheer bliss.
"Tumne noodles taste kiye the kya?"Advay was in different mood now.
(Did you taste the noodles yourself?)
" He Bhagawan! Kua hua? Theek nahi bane? "
( Oh God! What happened? Aren't the noddles come out Ok?)
Smallest issue could ruffle her calm. "Ab main kaise dekhu?" ( how do I check now?)
Advay pulled her close and said " Main chakhava deta hoon, aao"...
( Come, I'll help you taste)
" Dhat!" She pushed him. Kitchen was too risky for his games. "Chaliye, main aap ko car tak chhod aati hoon."
(Come...I'll walk you till the car)
Both walked hand in hand till his car. He could just not take his eyes away from her smile. He wanted to soak in this beautiful happy feeling.
"Pahuchane ke baad phone jaroor karna." Chandani bade bye to her husband with a smiling face.
(Call me after you reach!)
When Chandani returned back; the house suddenly felt very empty. Aadi will be home soon. Everybody's there. Miku-Shikha dono hai. Miku Shikha both there. Why are you feeling lonely?' she berated her own heart.
It was soon time for lunch. Adi returned home and ran straight to his sweet CM. She hugged him and gave him his favorite jelly custard. Family gathered for lunch with jokes and chatting.
" Ghar mein kitani khushiya aayi hai. Chandu aur Miku ke aanese!" Nani smiled.
(there's happiness at home due to arrival of Chandu and Miku)
" Ab Miku aur Shikha ki shaadi hogi to aur bhi khushiyaan hongi." Pooja chipped in.
(the happiness will increase with marriage of Miku and Shikha)
" Nahi Pooja, Itani jaldi nahi. Abhi Shikha padh rahi hai. Usaka college khatam hone ke baad hi hum shaadi karenge." Miku sounded very sure.
(Not so soon. Shikha is studying at the moment. we'll marry only after she finishes her education)
" Kya farak padata hai? Baad mein bhi to college ja sakati hai." argued Maasi.
(What difference does it make? Later on also she can go to college.)
" No maasi, marriage is a commitment and more so for women. So justice cannot be fully made to education simultaneously. Women should be allowed to do their studies as much as they want to. Marriage is not everything for a woman's identity. We are both young and I don't believe there's a need to stop her education and get married." Veer had his point to make. Shikha looked at him with admiration.
" Are vah! Bada to bada , chhota bhi baap! Hamaare dono bhai bade sulajhe hue hain!" laughed Pooja.
(The younger is no lesser than the older one! Both brothers of mine are so clear in their thought process.
" Mujhe Miku ki baat sahi lagati hai aur phir Meghu ki shaadi bhi abhi tay nahi hui." said Chandani.
(I think Miku is right and then again, Meghu's marriage is not yet fixed)
" Haan...Meghu ke baare mein mujhe bhi chinta hai." Nani affirmed.
(Yes, even I am worried about Meghu)
Chandani did not join the table to eat. Her heart was not very much into the talk either. She kept on thinking about Advay. He had come from London so what was he doing there? Her heart wouldn't stay put.
Mere apne pati hain! Unaki har baat mujhe jaan leni chaahiye. Par kaise? Come on, Swag vali Chandu Option A, B , C shuru kar.
(He's my own husband! I should know everything about him, but how? Come on Swag Chandu start option A, B, C.)
She thought aloud and proceeded to Nani's room.
" Main tumhari hi raah dekh rahi thi, Beta!"Nani welcomed her warmly.
(I was just waiting for you, child!)
"Naani Aapko kaise pata ki main aane wali hoon?"Chandani sat at the feet of Naani.
(Naani how come you know that I was coming to you.)
" Naani ne apne baal dhoop mein nahi safed kiye. Jab se Chiku office gaya hai, tera man nahi lag raha, bhookh nahi lag rahi, hai na?"
(My hair are not grayed out just like that...I know...from the time Chiku left for office, your heart is not into anything, don't feel good, don't wanna eat anything, right?)
" Naani, mujhe na, unake baare mein thodi jaankari chaahiye thee." Chandani's tone was pleading.
(Granny, I wanted some information about him)
" Kounasi? London ke ladakiyon ki jo hamesha where is Advay, when is advay coming' karate rahati hai?" Naani asked laughingly.
(What information? About the girls from London who always keep saying Where's Advay? when is Advay coming?
" Last time bhi aapne yahi baat bataayee. Bahut saari ladakiyaan mere Dev ke peechhe thee kya? Ab se na, Ghar se baahar jaane doongi to bas Burakha daalakar! Kisi ne dekhana nahi chaahiye mere Dev ko!" grumbled Chandani with grumpy face.
(Last time also you said the something. Were there lots of girls running behind my Dev? From now on, I will make him wear burqa( full body covering robe) while going out. Nobody should get to see my Dev)
Naani laughed at her innocent anger.
" Chal beta. Main thoda mantra jaap kar loon! Ab koi pustak to in aankhonse padhi nahi jaati. Upar se aajkal smriti bhi daga dene lagai hai. Pahale ka padha hua yaad bhi nahi rahata."
(Ok Child, let me recite some hymns...In this age, I can't read any books...and then my memory is also not supporting me...I can't remember anything that I read.)
" Naani, main padhake roj sunaaun aapko? Jo bhi aap ko achchha lage!" Chandani was very happy to offer.
(Granny, shall I read out to you everyday? whatever you enjoy like!)
" Haan beta! Jaroor! Main to kahati hoon, Ghar mein sabhi ko lekar shaam ko baithate hain. Tum Geeta padhakar sunana. Tumhara bhi man bahalega aur mera bhi." Naani was happy to accept.
(Yes child! Rather I say, let's take everybody at home and sit in the evening together. You start reading out Geeta. You will remain engaged and me too!)
Chandani had not yet got answer to her questions. Girls in London was one matter; but Dev must have done some work there. He was very rich when he came. Her thoughts refused to leave her hubby even now. She decided to try Maasi as her option B.
Maasi was busy in her room. " Arre Chandani. Aao aao. Kuchchh chaahiye tha kya?"
(Hey Chandni, come dear! You wanted something?)
" haan Maasi! Ek baat poochhani thee, par agar aap kuchh kaam kar rahi hoon to main baad mein aati hoon. Aapko kuchh madat chahiye kya? " Chandani was hesitating.
(yes maasi, I wanted to ask you some thing, but if you are busy in some work, then I'll come later. Do you need any help?)
" Arre nahi. Main tumhare saragi ki hi taiyaari kar rahi hoon. Kal karava Chauth hai na! "
(Oh no! I am just preparing for your auspicious feed. Tomorrow, it's Karava Chauth, right?)
She touched Chandani at her chin ad asked with a smile, "Tumhara pahala karava chauth. Fast dharogi na beta?"
(it's your first karava chauth, you'll keep the fast, right?)
" haan Maasi. Bilkul! Maasi aapko man ki baat bataaun? Mujhe mera Dev mil gaya, Main Pure man se Karava Chauth ka vrat karana chaahati hoon."
(Yes Aunty, Of course! Shall I tell you something? I have found my Dev, now I want to keep the fast of karavachauth whole-heartedly.)
" Main bhi sabko bulakar dhoom dhaam se yeh karavachauth karana chaahati hoon. Isake pahale functions mein mujhse tera jo apmaan hua hai, use kuchh to kam kar doon.Unhi logon ke saamne ab tujhe tera poora maan dena chahati hoon."
(And I want to call everybody and have a big function. In the last function, whatever insult you suffered, let me abate it a bit. In front of the same people, I want to confer upon you the glory that you deserve)
" Maasi, aapka dil bahut bada hain."
(You have a big heart)
" Bilkul nahi, Chandani. Maine Vasishth family ko abhi bhi maaf nahi kiya hai aur shayad kabhi karoongi bhi nahi. Ulata MERA yeh maanana hai ki Jail mein jaakar bhi Indrani Vasishth tooti nahi hai. Meri Jiji aur Jijaji ka badala abhi poora nahi hua hai...
(Not at all, Chandni! I have not yet forgiven the Vasishsth family and never will I. Rather, I strongly feel that Indrani Vasishth has not broken even after going to jail. The revenge for my sister and brother in law is not yet complete)
aaj khushi ke din yeh sab batein lekar kyon baithi hoon main? Tum ladakiya, us family ke keechad mein kanwal ki taraha ho. Aur yeh kanwal ab hamaare ghar ki shaan hain! "Broadly smiled masi.
(Why am I reiterating all this stuff on such a happy occasion? You girls are like lotus blooming in mud. and these lotuses are now pride of our family)
" Maasi, voh dev ke baare mein Poochana tha." hesitantly persuaded Chandani.
(Wanted to ask about Dev)
" Arre? To usee se poochh na! Ab kaisi sharam? Tera poora hak banata hain. Aur koi ek sawaal thode hi hoga tera? Maine bhi apne pati ke kaan khaaye hain, main jaanati hoon! Tu bhi usiko poochh. Main baaton mein Ulajh gayee to Saragi ka kaam rah jaayega."
(Hey! Why don't you ask him directly? Why feel shy? You have all the right. And surely, you won't have just one question. I have nagged my husband so much! You also must ask him. Now if I keep chatting with you, all my work will be left out.)
Dejected Chandani walked out in her own thoughts. Of course, I can ask him and he will tell me everything honestly; but where does he have the time? After so many months today we spoke our heart first time and after that what happened... she blushed hard to herself and banged into some one.
" Bhabhi? Kya aapaki hamesha ki aadat hain, aise bhai ke khayalon mein ghoomate rahane ki? " It was Miku, as usual chirpy.
(Sis-in-law? Is this your habit always? to walk around like this all engrossed in Bhai's thoughts?)
" Jiji ki to yeh puraani aadat hai." Teased Shikha.
(That's an old habit of sis!)
" Shikha kal karava Chauth hai. Tu bhi Veer ke liye rakh lena." Chandani wanted to avoid the topic.
(Shikha, tomorrow is karava chauth. you must fast for Veer.)
" Haan haan Shikha, tumhe mere liye vrat rakhana chaahiye." Miku would not let go of his big chance.
(Yes Shikha yes! you must fast for me.)
" Kyun rakhu? Kis Khushi mein?" Shikha wouldn't take it lying down.
(Why should I?)
" Arre, Sab rakhate hain! Tumhari Jiji rakh rahi hai." Miku was going to enjoy this.
(because everybody does! Your Sis is keeping fast)
" Kis jamane mein rahate ho, Janaab? Abhi thodi der pahale to bade stree shikshan ke purskarta bane the. Ab kya hua? " Shikha was in dueling mood.
( Hey Mister! Which era are you living in? just a while back, you were endorsing women education and all. Now what happened?)
" Usaka iss se kya naata? Tumhari jiji bhi padhi likhi hai, phir bhi vrat to rakhati hain"
(What connection does that have with this?)
" Jiji Apni marjee ki maalik hain, main apni. Tum kyon nahi rakhate vrat? Tumhe kisane roka hai?"
(Sis can follow her own mind, I will follow mine! Why don't you keep fast? Who's stopping you?)
" Mard thode hi vrat rakhate hain?"
(Men don't keep fast, OK?)
" Jamanaa badal raha hai, janaab! Ab 'ka' ke saare kaam 'Ki' kar leti hain. To mard bhi vrat rakh sakate hain."
(Hey Mister! times are changing now. Nowadays all " HIS" tasks are done by "HER". so men can surely keep fast)
" UFF ! Tum dono bhi na! Damaroo ho bilkul! " Chandani was exasperated.
(Uff! Both of you! Dumb kids!)
Pooja was approaching them.
"Kya hua, Chandani?"
(What happened Chandani?)
" Pooja Didi, aap ke paas thoda samay hai? Mujhe thodi baat karani thee." hesitated Chandani.
(Pooja Didi, do you have some time? I wanted to chat a little)
" Bhaiyya ke baare mein na?
Tere bina mera kahi jiya laage na." Pooja her usual filmi mood.
" Chalo mere kamre mein chalate hain. In dono kabootaron ki gutar goo to chalati rahegi. She pointed to Miku Shikha who were truly arguing even now.
(Regarding Bhaiyya , right? My heart isn't into anythng without you. Come, let's go to my room. These two will continue there chatter forever.)
In Pooja's room, Pooja made Chandani comfortable. The duo sat like close friends on her bed with pillows on their lap. " poochho kya poochhana chaahati ho!"
(Ask whatever is on your mind.)
" Didi, Dev itane din raat kaam kyon karate hain? Aur London mein voh professor the na? Phir yahaan unaki apni company... kuchh samajh mein nahi aata!" Chandani voiced her doubts.
(Sis, what does Dev work s late night for? And he was a professor in London, right? Then how come his own company here...I am thoroughly confused!)
" Na samajhne jaisi koi baat hi nahi! My Bhaiyya is double Ph.D. in Maths. Unaka haath koi nahi pakad sakata poore world mein!"Pooja's chest swelled up with pride.
(It's easy, nothing that you won't understand. My bro is double Ph.D. In MAths. There's nobody his equal in the world.)
"He can do complex calculations all in his brain alone. So naturally universities in London called him as visiting faculty. And this company is his own, founded and developed by him. He has worked real hard to make this into successful giant."...
Pooja was proud of her Bro already and her enthusiasm rubbed on Chandani as well. Her heart swell with pride for her Dev. She was always weak in maths. So in childhood he had scolded her many times for making silly mistakes. She thought with admiration,... to itna bada aadami ban gaya mera Dev!(So my Dev has become a big shot!)
" par didi , ab yahaanse Voh visiting faculty ka kaam kaise karate hain?"
(But Sis, how does he do vising faculty work from here?)
" Aree Pagali, Isiliye to raat mein online mein lecture dete hain, consulting karate hain, Students ke doubts sulajhaate hain. " Pooja tapped fondly on Chandni's head.
(Silly girl, that's the reason why he lectures online in late nights, he does consulting, he solves quesries of his students)
"He's a workaholic! In very short time, he has achieved big success but he has become an all work and no play boy. As if he has lost interest in everything in life! That's the reason I keep joking with him all the time to keep him engaged."
Chandni was in deep thoughts, 'Dev to aisa kabhi nahi tha. Voh to jindagi bharpoor jeeta tha. Ek tarah se mere kaaran voh itne badal gaye.'
(Dev was not like this ever. He used to live life to fullest and teach me as well. In a way, all his change is because of me.)
'I'll have to teach him to live full again.; Chandani was thinking fast.
" Where are you lost? Kya soch rahi ho?
(What are you thinking?)
If you expect him to be at home, it will not happen immediately. You'll have to work hard for it and give it time. Samajhi meri pyaari bhabhi?" (Understood, dear sis in law?)
Pooja truly cared for both.
At the same moment Chandu's phone rang.
"Bhaiyya ka hi hoga, sau saal jiyenge mere bhaiyya. Tum aaram se baithkar baatein karo. Mujhe jara baahar jaake aana hai." pooja left hurriedly.
(it must be my brother for you. Sit an chat nicely with him. I need to go out someplace)
She was shrewd enough to give the duo their deserved privacy.
" hello." Chandani was tentative.
" Main baat kar raha hoon."(it's me talking)
" Dev?"
" Aur kaun?(Who else?)"
"You were lost in my thoughts, right?"
" No. Not at all. I was chatting with Pooja didi." Her voice was almost flippant. 'How does he always know everything going on in her heart.'
" Jhoothi!" (Liar)
" Main jhooth nahi bolati, aap pahale bhi mujhe Aise hi bolate the; but I never ever lied".(I never lie. You called me liar earlier as well)
" Then why are you starting anew? Admit the truth. You were thinking of me."
" Did you call to check upon that?" Her tone was exasperated.
" No! "he was surprisingly relaxed; almost first time as per her experience.
" I called to tell you that tonight is a special one. I have bought lots of roses for tonight like the night when we were married and I will not allow you to sleep tonight same as that night?"
" You'll keep me standing whole night again?" She was rueful.
" Not at all, I'll keep you in lying down position the whole night." He was enjoying this convo. Chandani blushed hard at his double meaning talk. She did not want him to guess it.
"You are blushing and your cheeks are red, riiight?" he was out to kill.
She touched her cheeks instinctively. "Chhoone se pata nahi chalega, meri katto gilheri! Maine bataaya hai tumhe already." ( You won't know by touching. I have told you right, cutie pie?)
He just wouldn't let go.Memories of the day came rushing to her. Every moment earlier with him was taking a different meaning now. Yet, she wanted to change the subject.
" You always talk about the marriage. But You did it in absolute hatred".
" And You in helplessness devoid of any desire". His voice had remorse in it. "I'll change it for you, Chandani, I promise."
His softly coaxing yet determined manner immediately brought smile to her lips. She held his words in her heart.
" Aapne khana khaya?"(Did you eat?)
" I grabbed a sandwich. Wasn't very hungry after the noodles. What about you? I could be a little late in coming. Have your dinner with rest of the family."
" No, I won't. I'll wait for you".
" Don't be adamant, Chandu! Listen to me! Eat with the family. My times are never fixed. Don't make it a habit to wait for me. Start eating."
" Aapke bina khaaneki vahyaat aadat main nahi daal loongi! (I won't let myself adapt to such terrible habbit of eating without you.)
And you cannot pressurize me either. The moments I spend with you are worth the wait." Her voice had angry determination. Understanding women is not easy, inferred Advay. He just wanted tonight to be very special for her undoing all the pain he caused her. That meant finishing his business meetings at earliest. " I'll see you at soonest possible, Baby! " Advay felt nice calling her that. "Bye!"
She would have loved chatting with her hubby... listening to his voice, his tease, his sexy drawl...life suddenly felt very good.
Yet it was good that he had disconnected the call since she had to sit with Naani. She was proceeding to Nani's room when she saw hustle bustle in hall.
Nani was instructing and Murli Shilpa and rest of staff were arranging settee Baithaks in the living hall. Noticing her, Nani exclaimed,
" Are Beta Chandani! Tu jaldi se taiyaar ho ja. Maine meri doston ko bulaaya hai, tera geeta pathan sunane ke liye."
(Chandni, go and get ready. I have called my friends to hear your Geeta recitation)
Now, that was a big surprise for Chandani. She hadn't expected it to become a function in family.
" Naani, Itani saari taiyyari? Main to sirf geeta ka saar aapko sunaane vaali thee. I thought it was going to be just us."
(So much preparation? I was going to narrate only to you.)
" Are Beta, to sab sunenge! All will hear. It's not a small thing to be able to explain Geeta. Let all get the pleasure."
" Namaste Naaniji, can we come inside?" There were ladies at the door. Naani pushed Chandani towards her room and went towards the door to welcome the group. Family members also joined in.
" Pranaam!" An elegantly dressed up Chandani came and sat there. Women watching her were mesmerised by her simple beauty.
"Bhagvad Gita jeevan ka saar hai. (Bhagwatgita is the essence of life)
All of you already know that Bhagawan Krishn narrated Gita to a confounded Arjuna. It does not start with any phrase or quote but with a simple question. Before we get into Gita Pathan let us all pray together to lord Ganesha, our Vighnharta.
Chandani folded her hands and recited in sanskrit.
Vakratund Mahakay, Surykoti samaprabha,
Nirvighnam Kuru me dev, Shubh Karyeshu Sarvada !!
Positive psychic Atmosphere was getting created as her clear voice recited the shloka and then explained the meaning.
"This is the hymn for Lord Ganesha! He's is the one with a curved trunk and a huge body. His radiance equals a crore of suns. May He, the God, always take away all hurdles from my good tasks."
The ladies listening were hugely engaged in her narration. An hour passed but felt like just few minutes. Chandani concluded the session with another Sanskrit prayer.
Enthralled audience started clapping for her. " You are very good, Mrs. Advay Singh Raizada. You must surely come for our women's Association function and present this. Rather, why don't you become our guest of honour? We shall feel proud to have you.
All this was totally unexpected for Chandani. She was a timid town girl not having stepped into crowd for a long time. Just being Mrs. Advay Singh Raizada had suddenly made her an important person in society.
" Of course, she will!" Pooja accepted the invitation on Chandani's behalf. Pooja, Naani felt very happy that snobbish women of the colony had also been influenced by the rich narration of Chandani.
" Didi mujhe dar lagata hai." Whispered Chandani. (I am scared)
" Usme darane ki kya baat hai beta? Tujhe jana chaahiye. Teri apni pehchaan duniya ko dikha beta." Advised Nani.
(What's there to be scared about? You must go. You must show the whole world your own identity.)
Evening came and Chandani started looking at the door again and again. When will he come?If he has said that tonight will be special then yes it will be! Let me prepare something very special for him to eat. She had already cooked evening meal but this dish she wanted it to be very special.
It was dinner time already. She desperately wanted him to come but there was no sign of him neither a call. Family gathered, chatted, everybody urged her to eat.
" No Maasi, Dev has said he'll come for dinner. I shall eat with him."
Why had he not arrived yet? She felt extremely low and sat on her bed.
"CM... CM... CM" Adi came running and dashed into Chandani. She hugged him back lovingly.
"CM story! Story! Story!..."
"Haan Adi! Very much yes!"...This would keep her heart engaged for some time. One after the other, stories were getting exhausted now but no sign of Dev. Twice already she had gone up to the door and checked. Her eyes were almost teary now.
Suddenly, there was sound of his car. She jolted up happily... Oh! What shall I do? Shall I go and hug him tightly? Should I tell him I am angry with him? Should I just stay cool as a polite wife? Nothing seemed right for the way she was feeling. Let me first heat up the food. He must be hungry.
Advay came in and straight went to his room. He had been extremely unwell through the entire evening. Thank God, Chandani is not around. Aadi came running into his arms as usual, but Advay could not hold him for long. He was in extreme pain. Clenching his teeth in pain, Advay slowly kept Adi down. Chandani had come to invite him to dinner and exactly saw his painful movement from the window.
" CM... you know? Sweet CM told me so many stories today. Now you must... "Adi was oblivious to Advay's condition.
Chandani came into the room and went straight to her Dev. Without a word, she bent near his feet and started untying his shoes.
" Stop it, Chandani! I don't like this. "Advay clutched her shoulders.
She looked up. Tears had welled up in her eyes ready to roll down any minute.
" Chaandani?" Advay's voice was full of concern.
" Mere liye please... lie down immediately. " She insisted and then turned to Adi. Holding him close lovingly, sh said, " Adi, you are a big boy, right? Your CM has not sat down even for a minute the whole day and his feet are hurting now. You shall allow him rest, right?"
" Of course Maami. Maama... rest completely. My order!"
Advay had already lied down after his Chandani's request. It felt much better in resting position.
Just then Pooja came in calling, " Adiii! Adiii... . She saw Advay lying down and got extremely worried., " Bhaiyya? Kya hua Aapko? Chandani what happened?"
"Nothing Pooja! I came and Chandani pushed me on bed. She said she wants to show me something special", Advay was staring at Chandani; but she was not amused by his remark.
" Oh Bhaiyya, Aap bhi na! Itana Muskarapan aap mein jama hai koun jaanata tha? You are so much more jovial after Chandani's coming" (This much jovial mood you had in you, who knew?)
Advay could see anger rising in Chandani's eyes. It was going to be a difficult night!

Chandni is a loving, adjusting wife. Same as before during showtime, she is using her option and has similar doubts as she used to have earlier. Only her doubts now are those which puzzled us during the show.
My feasible explanation for the sudden change from professor to business tycoon. Hope you guys can now accept Advay as Math professor cum business Tycoon! It happens only in India
