Chapter 2: A Marriage of Compulsion

Setting: Virani Mansion, Mumbai. The house is filled with tension after Tulsi’s decision.

Scene 1 – Tulsi’s Silent Pain

The morning sun enters the room, but Tulsi’s heart feels heavy. She stands in front of Mihir’s photograph.

Tulsi (holding the frame):

“Mihir… everyone thinks you are gone. But my heart refuses to believe it.”

She gently places her hand on her stomach.

Tulsi:

“Our child will grow up hearing about his father… a man who loved truth and family.”

Savita watches from the doorway, her eyes moist.

Savita:

“Tulsi… the family meeting is starting.”

Tulsi:

“Ma… if Mihir returns one day… what will I tell him?”

Savita cannot answer.

Scene 2 – Anupam’s Conflict

At Virani Textiles office, Anupam Kapadia sits in Mihir’s chair, staring at the empty desk.

He speaks quietly to himself.

Anupam:

“Mihir… you trusted me with your business. But now they want me to take your place in your life too.”

His assistant enters.

Assistant:

“Sir, the Virani family is expecting you.”

Anupam sighs.

Anupam:

“This marriage… will it protect Tulsi… or destroy her completely?”

Scene 3 – Family Pressure

In the Virani living room, Mansukh addresses everyone.

Mansukh:

“The Virani name and the future of the business must remain secure.”

Tulsi enters calmly.

Mansukh:

“Tulsi, have you made your decision?”

Tulsi takes a deep breath.

Tulsi:

“Yes. I will marry Anupam Kapadia.”

Savita looks relieved but emotional.

Tulsi (firmly):

“But everyone must understand something. This marriage will never replace Mihir.”

The room becomes silent.

Scene 4 – Tulsi and Anupam Conversation

Later, Tulsi meets Anupam in the garden.

For a moment, neither speaks.

Finally Anupam breaks the silence.

Anupam:

“Tulsi… if you wish, I can refuse this marriage.”

Tulsi shakes her head.

Tulsi:

“No. That would only create more problems.”

Anupam:

“I know I can never replace Mihir. But I promise something.”

Tulsi looks at him.

Anupam:

“I will respect your love for him. I will protect you and your child… not as a husband forcing his rights, but as a friend fulfilling a responsibility.”

Tulsi’s eyes fill with tears.

Tulsi:

“Thank you… but my heart will always belong to Mihir.”
