CHAPTER 9

"Tell him that I don't want to talk to him." Devyani's voice echoed in the living room of Raizada mansion. Being a loyal great-grandson, prem nodded his head furiously and turned to his uncle who was smirking shamelessly after getting a heavy dose from his own grandmother. "Mama, Don't disturb nani-maa. She will get angry." Prem said to Arnav while pulling him away from the place with all his might.

Arnav ignored prem completely as he sat on the couch next to his angry grandmother. "Mama, dont sit. Get up." Prem pleaded at top of his voice. "Shut up, little brat. I am talking with my nani. What's your problem?" Arnav asked prem in faked angry tone. "So your mama remembers that he has a nani?" Devyani asked prem who looked at his mama hoping to get an answer.
"Of course, i do. You are my only nani. How can i forget you?" Arnav said in an innocent offended tone. "Tell him not to call me nani. All my relationship with him is over. He is not my grandson anymore." Devyani firmly announced and turned her face to other side. Then she added "prem, why are you looking at me? Tell your mama."
"nani- maa, how many times you have said this dialogue? But every time, you will forgive mama easily and at last i will be one to get scolded by mama for supporting you. I won't say it this time. You itself say it directly to him." Prem retorted angrily folding his arms across his chest.
Arnav leaned back, smirking while Anjali giggled witnessing her son's outburst. This was a usual scene at raizada's where Arnav tries to woo his angry nani. But this time, it was little different. He is doing it for Kushi. He wanted his nani to accept Kushi as soon as possible.
"Prem, ask your nani-maa to think before she speaks. Tell her not to forget that i am going to become a father of a very, very beautiful girl and if she is not my grandmother anymore means, then she will not have any right on my little girl." He said nonchalantly making nani to turn to him instantly. "How can you say that i dont have any rights on your child? She is my..." nani's voice trailed off as arnav's eyes widened and wicked smile played on his lips.
"Got you, nani." He said pointing fingers at her. As his grandmother tried to get up, he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and told her "nani, how did you manage to live for five whole days without yelling at me? I thought scolding me is your life's mantra, motive and all. I missed your scolding's so much nani."
She patted his arms which made him to lift his head from her shoulders. "And now you remember your nani? Where this love for nani went when you decided to get married?" She asked her grandson whose face turned serious in a second. "Sorry nani. I know i had offended you people very much. Sorry nani, really, really sorry." He answered her back regretfully.
"i still don't get it, why did you do this? Why did you do this to Lavanya? To us? To this deprived girl, Kushi?" she cupped her grandson's face, "what were you thinking, chotey?" Arnav rolled his eyes to Kushi who was seated on other side watching the family drama silently. 'What was he thinking that morning when he decided everybody's fate? What was he thinking? To be accurate, he was not at all thinking. If he had thought in right frame of mind just for a second, he would have never done what he had done.'

*****flashback*****

Arnav gulped his drink and refilled his glass instantly all while consciously avoiding to look at the sleeping girl. But it was of no use. The more he thought not to see her angelic face, the more his eyes got fixed to it. And with every passing second, he hated himself more for doing this; for losing himself in front of her love.

What he had done to her? To himself? To Lavanya? Lavanya! How can he do this to her? He felt so cheap and outrageous. He loved Lavanya from bottom of his heart. Then how can he allow another girl to come so close to his heart? That too the girl, on whom he wanted to take revenge; the girl who was supposed to be his enemy.
'It was her mistake.' Part of him said. Yes it was her mistake. First of all, why on the earth she fell in love with the ba****d like him? Does any girl in the world will love a man who doesn't even deserve one percent of her love? Then why she did that? Why she loved him even after knowing that he doesn't love her? Why did she believed that one day he will love her back?
He moved towards the bed and sat near her. He removed a lock of hair which blocked him from admiring her face and unconsciously a warm smile spread on his face. Her love for him was unconditional. How he wished he could love her back in same way? How he wished he could take care of her in the way she deserved to be? How he wished he met her before he met Lavanya? How he wished he had never known her father or her brother? How he wished it was just two of them?
But reality was very far from his wishes and desires. He knew that very well. The minute Kushi comes to know about his real intentions behind this, and then everything will be finished. She will never forgive him if she knows that he was trying to use her to take revenge on her father. Yes, trying. Still he didn't use her but was just trying to use her.
He was scared because trying process itself was so painful, then how it will be when he really uses her? No, he will not do that. He will tell her all truth once she wakes up. Of course, she will hate him for that. He was not worried about that. After all, her hatred is all he deserves.
He could still defend himself by saying what her father and brother did to him. But he knew that it is not going to help him in any way. It may lead her to hate her own father and brother, but it will never lead her to love him again. And it will shatter her more and she will isolate herself from everyone; from her family; from him.
But if she thinks he is at fault, at least she will have her family with her. Who knows she may even get what she longed to get; her father's love. He knew she is wild cat. She will fight back and with anger and hatred for him in her mind, she will come out it so quickly.
His family needs him. Lavanya needs him. At least Kushi has a family who will take care of her. But Lavanya has no one and he was responsible for it. His mind was jumping to and fro between Lavanya and Kushi. His thoughts became incoherent and he didn't know what he was thinking. All he knew was he was at fault and Kushi will never forgive him.
Why it is very difficult for him to think about Kushi's hatred? Does he love...no, of course, not, he doesn't love her. How can he love her when he loves someone else? 'i dont love her. i did it only to take revenge on her father.' He chanted repeatedly to himself. But every time he said that he felt weaker and strange gloominess filled every part of him.
He got up from the bed and picked his phone murmuring "i will prove that i don't love her." he punched some buttons only to cut the call when his eyes got glimpse of the sleeping girl. She was sleeping peaceful unaware of the conflict which was taking inside him. He had never felt so vulnerable and helpless. He felt he couldn't do it.
But he has to do it. Because her family deserves this punishment; he deserves kushi's hatred for what he had done to her and more importantly, Kushi deserves a better life. He bended and kissed her fore head. "Please don't hate me to a great extent, kushi." saying so, he straightened himself and closed his eyes. His mind went back to some years back.
The day when he had to enter the mortuary alone to identify his brother-in-laws crushed body. He was just twenty year old boy, who had never had to bear any responsibility till then. He was scared to the core.
Next his mind travelled to the day, when he was tossed out of the place, which he thought was his home, along with his pregnant sister and his nephew.
He remembered the day, when he tried to wake up his younger sister, completely ignorant to the fact that she was already dead. His little sister attempted suicide.
He recalled the day when he saw pratiek uncle's dead body. How can he forget the feeling he felt when he had to burn the dead body of the man whom he considered as his god father?
His body got stiffer remembering a pair of black eyes which stared at him blankly, not responding to his cries and pleas. The girl he loved didn't recognise him. It was one of the aftermath reactions after witnessing her father's murder. Lavanya was equally hurt and doctor said it was miracle that she is alive but only he knew the pain he underwent seeing her condition.
At last, his memory got fixed to the incident happened three months before which provoked him to do what he did now. Arjun gupta's word still ringed in his mind.

He opened and without looking at Kushi, he dialled some number and waited till it was answered. "arjun gupta." He said.

"Yes, who is this?" a sleepy voice drawled on other side of phone.
"Arnav." He smirked. "Arnav Singh Raizada. Didn't expect my phone call so soon? You should have expected it, after all the person you have messed is Arnav Singh Raizada."

***********

"chotey?" Nani's voice brought him back to the present. "ji, nani." He replied before standing up and he went to Kushi and said "come with me." He made her to stand before nani and he went to his knees holding his grandmother's hand and started to speak.

"nani, we both are sorry for what we did. We never wanted to hurt you. And it was all my idea and none was kushi's. Please forgive us, nani. We need you, nani." His grandmother cupped his face where he laid soft kiss expressing his regret. Kushi bended down with Arnav to get devyani's blessing.
Looking at his wife, he thought 'sorry kushi. That day I did that thinking you will need your family more than me. I never thought you will lose them because of what i did. I am sorry because i can never give you back what you had lost. But i can make sure that you get this family's love and care in each step of your life.'
"chotey, did you listen to what i said?" again his nani's voice disturbed his train of thoughts. He blinked and said "ah... sorry nani. I won't make same mistake again." He was confused when his nani giggled.
"kushi bitiya, look at your husband. Here i was talking about how to take care of you and he was dreaming about getting married and doing same mistake again." Arnav looked back at kushi, who simply stared at him, then turned to nani. "nanii..." he drawled making elder women to giggle more and he hugged her. Prem too joined the duo enthusiastically, while Anjali smiled looking at them.
Kushi looked bluntly as nani pulled out of hug and kissed arnav's forehead lovingly. Her eyes got misted involuntarily. She too once had a family. Though her family had never bonded this way, at least she had a family. She closed as her memory travelled to the day when her family started to crumble.

*****flashback*****

Kushi splashed cold water on her face and then rubbed it with towel. She stared at her reflection on mirror as she made a pony tail not caring whether it looked perfect or not. There was something wrong and she knew it. The way Arnav is behaving from the time she got up is strange. He didn't even utter a word to her or responded to her questions.

She hastily pulled the bathroom door open when she heard some noise from outside. The scene which greeted her made her blood to freeze. Her brother was holding arnav's collar while he smirked in reply.
"So it hurts when it comes to your sister? As if the girls you ditched doesn't have a brother or family." Arnav said in lazy tone. "You ba****d." Arjun retorted. But Arnav simply shoved arjun's hand and dusted the place where he was held by arjun. "i warned you arjun, Arnav Singh Raizada never loses."
"What's happening here?" Kushi asked stepping closer to the duo. Arjun turned to her as soon as he heard her voice, "what the hell do you think you were doing? Because of your stupidity, i had face this day; i had to lose to this cheap middle class ba****d. I wished i never had a stupid sister like you." Kushi's jaw dropped down hearing her brother's lethal word.
"Arjun, this is not a place to fight. Go out and wait there." Aditya gupta voice was firm and kushi stiffened sensing her father's presence at door. "No, daddy..." Arjun tried to argue but was stopped by his father. "i told you go out and wait." Arjun left the place fuming but not before giving dead glare to Arnav, who was refilling his glass as if nothing had happened.
Kushi watched in stunned state as her father walked to bar where he was received by arnav's wicked smile. "The problem was between you and me. You could have fought with me. But like a coward you used my daughter to beat me." Aditya asked arnav in little furious voice.
Arnav blinked as if he didn't understand what aditya said and then taking a sip he replied "well, you should ask your son that question." Aditya glared at arnav's body language for a moment, which reminded him of his own, before he asked "why did you do this to her?"
"Because that's what rich people do! Playing with other's life. Nice game, you know!" Arnav exclaimed rising his glass up in air. "Why are you glaring at me? It was you who taught me this game. Now i had become rich, i thought i will also play this game. Still glaring?" Arnav asked in surprised tone.
"Oh wait, are you going to go to police! Do you want anyone's number? You can ask me, i will help you, after all you are my role model." Arnav said cheerfully but then pouted "still glaring at me? What are you going to do? Do you need money to file case?" Aditya stood silently as the words he uttered six years back, hit him hard on his own face now.
Suddenly arnav's face got bright and he excitedly said "i know what you want? A blank cheque for sleeping with your daughter."
"Arnav." Arnav closed his eyes hearing her soft voice. Though her voice was low, he could still feel the pain in her voice. So far he pretended like she was not here but her voice made him to freeze.
"kushi, lets go out of here." Arnav opened his eyes hearing Aditya's concerned voice. He saw kushi glaring at him while Aditya tried to pull her out of the place. May be he had taken right decision. Kushi will get her father's love from now and her father already got what he deserved. Just one more thing he had to do to make her hate him and he will get what he deserved; her hatred.
He looked at her indifferently as she stood in front of him with so many questions in her eyes. He smiled lazily "sorry kushi, nothing personal."
Her face turned pale and her ever shining eyes lost its texture as she stared blankly at the ground. The tears which welled up her almond shaped eyes indicated that the truth had begun to sink inside her. Her rosy lower lip was crushed in between her gritted teeth. Slowly disbelief on her eyes was replaced by anger.
She rolled her eyes up and he found himself being scrutinized by her hatred filled eyes. His heart broke into millions of pieces at the sight in front of him. He couldn't digest the fact that her eyes, where he had seen nothing but just love, were now filled with so much hatred for him. He felt suffocated and his heart beat became ragged when she opened her mouth.
"I trusted you." She said and a lone tear rolled down her cheek. He felt helpless, guilty and that was the second when Arnav Singh Raizada hated himself more than anyone in the world. She turned and left the place not even bothering to steal one last glance at him.
He knew that it will be painful for him also. But never thought it will hurt him so much. He stood at same spot for hours, her hatred filled eyes flashing in his mind. He slowly prepared himself for a life where every second he will regret what did now. He prepared himself for life without Kushi.

**********

"Yes, my mother was really a nice being." Kushi answered to nani thoughtfully as she dug her food with spoon. "Have you ever met her, chotey?" kushi raised her head hearing Anjali's question and then stared at Arnav who was seated opposite to her. Before Arnav could reply, she said "of course, he did when we were dating. My mother liked him very much."

They both stared at each other when Anjali spilled her next question. "And your father?" kushi's eyes held arnav's for second before she rolled them to anjali's face. "Of course, he didn't like Arnav! Which father will approve of a man after knowing that the man is just using his daughter to take revenge on him?" she asked in serious innocent tone.
Arnav closed his eyes as three pair of eyes moved to his face. He knew what is coming. His judgement day has arrived. He sat quietly as kushi's words reverberated in his head.
Do you how it feels when you sleep one night thinking you have best family in the world and wake up in the morning to find that you have no one.

Do you know how it feels?
If not, then brave yourself, mr.raizada. Before I leave this house, I will make sure that you feel the pain which I felt three months before. I will make sure that you have no one.
