Chapter 6
Chapter 5: Tangled Fates
The days began to blend together as the four of themimmersed themselves in the rehearsals, each day pushing them closer to theshowcase that loomed ahead. But despite their progress on the dance floor, theemotional weight remained. Kriya and Rey had made strides in rebuilding theirbond, but unspoken tensions still clung to the air. Swayam and Sharon, too, found themselves navigating the labyrinth of their own complicated feelings.
Kriya stood in front of the mirror, her reflectionstaring back at her with an intensity that made her stomach churn. The danceroutine was coming together — every step more synchronized, every move morefluid. But with each pirouette and leap, she felt herself getting lost in thememories she’d tried to escape for so long. Rey’s eyes never strayed far fromhers during rehearsals. His gaze lingered, filled with something she couldn’tquite place. Was it hope? Regret? Or was it simply the longing that had onceexisted between them?
Her breath hitched as she remembered their conversationfrom the night before. The quiet confessions, the aching honesty. It felt liketoo much, too soon, and yet it was exactly what they needed.
She closed her eyes, blocking out the mirror and theimage of Rey’s face. It was too easy to fall back into the comfort of his arms,to forget everything she had been running from.
“You okay?” Sharon’s voice cut through her thoughts, andKriya opened her eyes to see her standing next to her. Sharon’s expression wassoft but searching.
Kriya nodded, forcing a smile. “Yeah, just... thinking.”
Sharon arched an eyebrow. “About Rey?”
Kriya’s smile faltered. “Is it that obvious?”
Sharon shrugged, her smile light. “You’re both terribleat hiding it. But you need to figure this out, Kriya. Whatever happened betweenyou two, whatever the past holds, it’s not going to heal itself. You can’t keeppretending everything is fine when you’re clearly not okay.”
Kriya sighed, turning back to the mirror. “I don’t evenknow what I’m afraid of anymore. The past, the future, what happens if I lethim in again...”
Sharon stepped closer, her tone more serious now. “Theonly thing you should be afraid of is not trying. If you’re honest withyourself and with Rey, you might just find the answers you’ve been lookingfor.”
Kriya met Sharon’s gaze in the mirror. “And what if it’stoo late?”
“It’s never too late,” Sharon replied, her voice steady.“Not for love, not for truth.”
At that moment, Kriya knew Sharon was right. She couldn’tkeep hiding from the truth, not when the person she loved was standing right infront of her. And not when she knew that the only way forward was through thepain of facing it.
Meanwhile, Rey and Swayam were discussing the routine inthe corner of the studio. Swayam’s eyes were focused on the choreography, buthis mind was elsewhere.
“You’ve been distant lately,” Swayam said, breaking thesilence. “Is everything okay with Kriya?”
Rey looked up, his expression conflicted. “I don’t know,Swayam. We’ve come so far, but... I can’t help but wonder if we’re justpretending things are better than they are. She’s been through a lot, and Idon’t know how to fix it.”
Swayam gave him a knowing look. “Rey, you don’t need tofix anything. You just need to be there for her. That’s what matters the most.”
Rey exhaled, running a hand through his hair. “I know. But what if it’s not enough?”
Swayam clapped him on the back. “It will be. Trust me.”
At that moment, Kriya walked over to them, her face moredetermined than before. She glanced at Rey, then at Swayam, a mixture ofemotions in her eyes.
“I need to talk to Rey,” she said quietly.
Swayam smiled knowingly and gave them space. Rey, sensingthe shift in the air, stood up, his heart racing.
Kriya took a deep breath. “Rey, I’ve been running fromthe truth. I’ve been afraid of what it might mean if I let you back in. But Ican’t keep doing this. I can’t keep pretending everything is fine when I’m noteven sure what I want anymore.”
Rey’s voice was soft, yet filled with urgency. “Kriya, you don’t have to do this alone. I’m here. I always will be.”
Her gaze softened, and she stepped closer. “Then let’sfigure this out together. No more running. No more hiding.”
Rey took her hand, feeling the weight of her words.“Together,” he repeated, a promise in his voice.
