Chapter 5
Chapter 4: Unspoken Truths
The days that followed the dance session were filled withlong rehearsals, late-night talks, and moments of silence where each of themretreated into their own thoughts. Though the physical distance between themhad lessened, the emotional gap still remained, thick and unresolved.
Kriya found herself constantly lost in thought, her mindracing between the past and the present. There were too many questions shehadn’t asked Rey. Too many answers she feared hearing. She wanted to bridgethat gap, but she wasn’t sure how.
One evening, after a particularly exhausting rehearsal, the group sat on the studio floor, sweat dripping from their faces. The roomwas quieter than usual, as if the air was pregnant with the tension that eachof them was too afraid to address.
Rey wiped his brow, glancing at Kriya. “We’re gettingthere. Slowly.”
She nodded but didn’t say anything. The unspoken wordshovered between them like a heavy fog. Sharon, ever the perceptive one, noticedthe quiet and decided it was time to speak up.
“I think it’s time we talked about what’s been unsaid,”Sharon said, her voice firm. “This… all of this,” she gestured around the room,“it’s more than just about dance. It’s about everything we’ve been avoiding.”
Swayam leaned forward, eyes narrowing. “Sharon’s right. We’re not going to move forward if we don’t deal with the things we’ve buried.”
Kriya looked at Rey. “What do we even say?” Her voicetrembled, the weight of years of silence pressing down on her.
Rey stood up and walked toward the windows, his back tothe group. The night was dark outside, the lights of the city twinkling in thedistance. “I don’t know, Kriya. But avoiding it isn’t working either.”
Kriya stood too, her voice soft but resolute. “I left,Rey. I ran because I didn’t know how to stay, how to deal with everything. Andnow, it’s like I’m expected to just… be okay.”
Rey turned to face her, his expression conflicted. “Youthink I didn’t feel the same way? But I stayed, Kriya. I stayed and keptfighting — not just for the dance, but for us. For what we had.”
Kriya’s heart pounded, and she stepped closer to him. “Iknow you did. But I was afraid that if I stayed, I’d only hurt you more. Iwasn’t strong enough to face all the things that were happening between us. Istill don’t know if I am.”
Rey moved toward her, his voice growing softer. “We don’thave to be perfect, Kriya. But we do have to try. And right now, all I want isto try with you.”
Her eyes filled with unshed tears as she reached out, touching his arm. “I’ve missed you. More than you’ll ever know.”
The room seemed to hold its breath as the space betweenthem vanished. Slowly, Rey pulled her into a gentle hug. It was as if theweight of everything that had been unsaid had finally found its release.
As they stood there, holding each other, Swayam andSharon exchanged a knowing glance. They both knew that this was only thebeginning. There was still much to face, but for now, they were taking thefirst step toward rebuilding what had once been broken.
