Rajveer’s parrot

The next day, Rajveer and Vristhi met once again in a restaurant.

Vristhi just returned from the washroom and found Rajveer was still busy talking in his phone call .

Suddenly he was interrupted by a tap on his shoulder, followed by a bright smile and a cheeky kiss.

"Hey, Raj!" The girl's voice was like a ray of sunshine, but Rajveer's eyes widened in surprise, his mind racing to recall her name.

Before he could recover, another girl appeared, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Raj, you asked me to meet outside the beaker corner, remember? I've missed you so much." Rajveer's confusion deepened, his eyes darting between the two girls like a trapped animal.

"Who are you?" Sofia demanded, her eyes narrowing at Nisha.

"I'm Nisha, Raj's girlfriend," the latter replied, her voice steady.

Sofia's expression twisted in disgust. "What nonsense are you spewing? I'm Sofia, Raj's one and only girlfriend."

With a fierce grip, Sofia pulled Nisha by the arm, spinning her around. "What's going on here? Did Raj tell you 'I'm your girlfriend' just to get what he wants from you?" Sofia's voice was low and menacing, her words dripping with venom.

Nisha smirked, her eyes flashing with defiance. "I'm Raj's girlfriend, and I won't let you or anyone else take that away from me." She spat the words, her tone icy. "Understand, man-snatching witch?"

Sofia's eyes widened in outrage as she grabbed the Nisha's arm, spinning her around. "What's going on here? Raj just told her I'm your girlfriend, and now you're claiming the same thing?"

Nisha smirked, her eyes flashing with defiance. "Oh, please, I'm the real deal. You're just a wannabe girlfriend trying to steal my man."

Sofia's face turned beet red with rage. "How dare you! I'm the one who's been dating Raj for months. You're just a...a...gold-digger!"

Nisha chuckled, unfazed. "Gold-digger? Ha! I'm the one who's been getting texts from Raj saying 'Good morning, beautiful' and 'Can't wait to see you tonight'."

Sofia's eyes nearly popped out of her head. "That's impossible! Raj would never say that to anyone else."

Sofia and Nisha turned to him, both speaking at once.

"Tell her you're my boyfriend!"

"Tell her you're my boyfriend!"

Rajveer held up his hands, laughing nervously. He couldn't make a word as his tongue was left dry in his throat .

But before he could continue, Sofia and Nisha started arguing again, each trying to outdo the other in a hilarious display of ridiculousness.

"I'm the one who knows his favourite food is pizza!"

"No, I'm the one who knows his favourite colour is blue!"

Rajveer watched, mesmerised, as the two girls continued to bicker. He had no idea how he was going to get out of this one.

The air was electric with tension as the two girls faced off, their voices rising in a crescendo of anger. The reception area fell silent, with all eyes on the drama unfolding before them.

A little girl, watching with wide eyes, whispered to her mother, "Mom, they're shouting like you shout at Daddy." The mother quickly ushered her away, avoiding the scene.

As the argument escalated, Rajveer's eyes darted back and forth between Sofia and Nisha, his mind racing for a way to defuse the situation. But before he could intervene, Nisha slammed her hand on the counter, making everyone jump.

"I've had enough of this!" she exclaimed. "Rajveer, tell her the truth! Who's your real girlfriend?"

Sofia's eyes flashed with triumph. "Yes, Rajveer, tell her! I'm the one you took to the beach last weekend, remember?"

Rajveer's eyes widened in panic as he realised he was trapped. He had taken both girls on separate dates but he didn't want to carry on the relationship; those were his casual dates , not realising they would meet like this.

"Uh, well...I...uh..."

Nisha's face turned red with rage. "You're not even denying it! You're a two-timing cheat!"

Sofia's voice rose to a shriek. "How could you, Rajveer? I thought we had something special!"

The reception area erupted into chaos, with everyone staring at the drama unfolding before them. Rajveer's face turned bright red as he realised he was the centre of attention. He, trapped between the two girls, thought desperately of an escape. His eyes scanned the area searching for a way to extricate himself from this uncomfortable situation.

As Rajveer stood amidst the chaos, he couldn't help but think that he wasn't in a serious relationship with either girl. He had been casual dating, enjoying the attention and company, but never intending to commit.

But then, he remembered how both Sofia and Nisha had suddenly become interested in him after learning about his wealth. They had started demanding luxurious gifts and attention, and he had foolishly agreed, thinking it was a fair trade for their affection.

But now, as he looked at the two girls standing before him, he realised that neither of them was truly in love with him. They were both equally responsible for this mess, as they had both used him for their own gain.

Just then, Vrishti walked into the room, a look of amusement on her face. "Well, well, well...looks like someone's got a lot of explaining to do!"

Rajveer's eyes met Vrishti, and he knew he was in trouble. Big trouble.

That's when he spotted Vrishti, her eyes shining with mirth as she struggled to contain her laughter. He sensed that she might have a clue about the root cause of the heated argument between the two girls. Rajveer couldn't help but feel frustrated with his luck, wondering why he had to get caught up in this drama.

He was about to take furtive steps but both Nisha and Sofia turned to Rajveer and asked him who his real girlfriend was.

They were both shaking him like a rag doll , Rajveer was trying to save his life .

" Tell this witch I'm your girlfriend!”" Nisha growled

" Just say I'm your girlfriend I'll knocked down this leech ,” Sofia growled back

"Who is your girlfriend, Raj?" they demanded in unison.

Rajveer's eyes darted towards Vrishti, who was trying to stifle her laughter. He mouthed "help" to her, but she just shrugged and mouthed back "you're on your own".

In a moment of sheer panic, Rajveer blurted out "Mittuuuu!!" at the top of his lungs. The entire reception area fell silent, with all eyes on him.

Vrishti's eyes grew wide in shock, her heart racing with excitement or fear - she couldn't quite tell. Rajveer grabbed her arm and whispered urgently in her ear, "Pls save me, Mittu! Unless you know this duo will make a keema of me tonight and eat me with tandoori roti!"

Vrishti glanced at Rajveer, trying not to laugh at his predicament. "What can I do? It's your matter, you should solve this."

Rajveer begged, his eyes pleading with her. "Pls, save me Mittu! Just tell them Mittu is my girlfriend, and she's a parrot!"

Vrishti raised an eyebrow . "A parrot?"

She stared at Rajveer, a mix of emotions swirling inside her. She was shocked that he had used her nickname as his girlfriend's name, and a part of her felt happy that he had thought of her in his time of need. But another part of her was angry that he had dragged her into his mess.

Rajveer nodded frantically, his eyes locked onto hers. "Yes, yes! A parrot! Just go with it, Mittu! I'll explain everything later."

He implored her with puppy eyes, and Vrishti felt her resolve weakening. "Pls," he whispered, his voice barely audible.

Vrishti shrugged, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Okay, fine. But you owe me for this."

Vrishti took a deep breath, trying to think of a way to get Rajveer out of this situation. Nisha and Sofia were goggling at her, their eyes filled with a mixture of anger and curiosity.

Vrishti stared back at them, her eyes shining with mirth.

She turned to Sofia and Nisha, who were still arguing. "Girls, I think we can settle this. I'm sorry to let you know about the news that Rajveer has recently lost his memory in an accident," she began, a sly smile spreading across her face. "And I'm his doctor."

Rajveer gaped at Vrishti, as she had saved him from his future, which Nisha and Sofia would do to him. He was shocked by her quick thinking and grateful for her intelligent brain.

Nisha and Sofia exchanged a sceptical glance, but Vrishti continued, undeterred. "Any kind of impulse pressure on his brain can lead to erasing his entire memory, turning him into a coma."

The room fell silent, with all eyes on Vrishti. Rajveer gaped at her, shocked by her quick thinking.

Vrishti's eyes sparkled with amusement as she continued. "And talking about Mittu, it's his little parrot, who taught him to be loyal. That's why he remembers her name only."

Sofia and Nisha stopped arguing, looking at Vrishti in confusion. "A parrot?" they chimed in unison.

Vrishti nodded. "Yes, Mittu is a beautiful parrot. And Rajveer is devoted to her."

The two girls looked at each other, then back at Rajveer, who was trying to maintain a straight face..

Vrishti teased Rajveer indirectly, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Now he is going through his past, to remember his memory. I hope you two will understand. Even though he had lost his 50% share of his company."

Nisha and Sofia exchanged another glance, this time filled with pity. "If he is running out of money," Vrishti added dramatically, making poor pity eyes. "If you want, you can just take care of him, pls."

Rajveer spoke up, his voice soft and grateful. "But I remember some important things. Like Mittu loves chilli with pani puri."

Vrishti's eyes grew wider, her face flushing with embarrassment. She cursed Rajveer deep down, muttering "Incorrigible" under her breath.

Nevertheless, she smiled weakly and answered back. "That's true. He does remember that."

Nisha and Sofia exchanged a final glance between Vrishti and Rajveer, before nodding sympathetically and leaving the scene. Vrishti let out a sigh of relief as they departed, grateful that the situation had been diffused.

As soon as they were gone, Rajveer turned to Vrishti and collapsed onto a nearby chair. "Thank you, Mittu...I mean, Vrishti. He exhaled a heavy sigh of relief.

"unless they would have definitely sent me into a coma tonight!" He chuckled, hand on his chest, and turned to Vrishti.

Vrishti laughed. "You owe me big time. Now, spill the truth. What happened?"

Rajveer took a deep breath and confessed. "I was casually dating both of them, not serious about either. But then they found out I was rich, and things changed. They started demanding gifts and attention, and I...I went along with it."

Vrishti raised an eyebrow. "And you didn't think that would backfire?"

Rajveer shook his head. "I know, I know. I was stupid. But I promise, I've learned my lesson.”

He turned to her, his eyes filled with gratitude. "Thanks, Mittu. I owe you one."

Vrishti rolled her eyes, laughing. "Anytime, Veer . But next time, maybe just stick to the truth, huh? You'd probably get into even more trouble. But seriously, Veer, you need to be more careful. You can't just play with people's emotions like that."

Rajveer nodded, looking chastened. "I know. I'll try to do better in the future."

Vrishti's expression remained stern, her gaze piercing through him. "What's come over you, Veer? Don't you feel bad about breaking someone's trust forever?"

Rajveer shrugged, seemingly unbothered. "Yes, maybe... Trust me, I tried my best. I respect every girl a lot, but after that…”

Rajveer understood she was asking about Nisha and Sofia.

Nevertheless he seemingly unbothered, and replied, "Yes, maybe... Trust me, I tried my best. I respect every girl a lot, but after that..."

Vristhi's gaze pierced through him, her eyes sparkling with a mix of amusement and annoyance. She continued, her voice laced with sarcasm, "Chalo Maharaj abh todhi aap prajayon ki sewa bhi ki Jai nahi..." ("Let's serve the people a little, Your Highness.")

Her chuckle faded quickly, replaced by a serious tone. "When a person starts to trust you blindly, it's their love... It doesn't take much time to break trust. The difficult thing comes after that. When you break someone's trust, you sow a seed of fear in them. In the future, when the best person comes into their life, it will be like an illusion for them. They won't be able to trust anyone. They will never be able to love anyone because they lost trust in themselves too. Love is like a growing adolescent. If you treat it poorly, it will end up with misconceptions, scared to think of the other side of the coin. Don't you think you shouldn't break someone's trust like this?”

Vrishti's words hung in the air like a challenge, a verbal slap that left Rajveer stunned and searching for a response. The weight of her gaze was crushing, like a mirror reflecting his own shortcomings. He felt a knot in his stomach, his mind racing to defend himself, but Vrishti's expression remained unyielding.

The silence between them grew thick and heavy, a palpable force that seemed to suffocate Rajveer. He looked at Vrishti, unblinking, hoping to find a glimmer of understanding, but her eyes remained resolute. She had said her piece, and now she was waiting for his reply.

But Vrishti was done. She turned and walked away, leaving Rajveer with his thoughts, and a sense of unease that settled in the pit of his stomach. For the next five days, there was radio silence between them. Rajveer tried to reach out, but Vrishti ignored his calls, making excuses to avoid him.

Rajveer was impatient to talk to her, to explain himself, to justify his actions, but Vrishti was resolute. She needed time to process her emotions, to figure out if she wanted to continue investing in a relationship with someone who didn't value trust. The distance between them grew, a chasm that seemed insurmountable.

As the days passed, Rajveer felt the weight of Vrishti's silence, a constant reminder of his mistakes. He began to realise that his actions had consequences, that his carelessness had hurt someone he cared about. And he knew he had to make it right, but he didn't know where to start.
