Chapter Two (PART-1)
Dobriyal House
Same Day, Evening.
Madhu is worried about her daughter Piya. She dialled her number several times, but her phone is in non-coverage area. She switches the television on, to see the news.
Kaal Tak news channel, direct LIVE from Palghar.
REPORTER's POV
My voice was shaking due to the rain and I wasn't able to stand properly on the muddy road. But I'd to talk about the BREAKING NEWS that we recently got it from the local people of Palghar.
The water on the road was increasing every passing second. I started swimming in water with mic in one hand.
I started talking shakily, "Main reporter Sandeep iss waqt LIVE aap ko report de raha hoon Palghar se. Yaha itni tezi se bhaad aa gayi hain ke aap dekh rahe hain hum sab iss waqt yaha tayr rahe hain. Camera bhi kafi hil raha hain. Hum dhang se yaha khade tak nahi ho paa rahe hain. Puri tarah se let gaye hain, paani aap dekh rahe hain mere chest tak aa chuka hain. Itna tez baarish aaj tak pehle kabhi Palghar main nahin hua hain.
Iss waqt mausam ki stiti kafi kharab hain. Sab apne-apne ghar jana chahta hain. Koi nahin janta hain ke kal tak inn main se kitne log bachenge aur kitne dub kar mar jaayenge. Lekin, yeh baarish hain ke rukne ka naam nahi leti hain. Main khud iss waqt chatri ke andar reh ke, tayr ke aap ko yeh report de raha hoon."
I was shivering in the rain, but I'd talk even in shivering voice, "Cameraman Santosh ke saath, Main reporter Sandeep, Palghar, Kaal tak se." I finally ended talking in front of the camera.
============== REPORTER's POV ENDED ===============
As soon as the reporter finished talking by giving BREAKING NEWS, Madhu got desperate to call Arnab. She tried his number, which was coming not reachable.
Madhu didn't understand whom to call and what to do. She was getting worried for Piya and Arnab who had gone to office.
Suddenly another BREAKING NEWS aired in Kaal Tak news channel. It was again LIVE news.
Madhu looked keenly towards the TV screen. She stopped walking in hall and sat on the sofa, to watch another LIVE update of Kaal Tak.
"Ek aur badi khabar hummein sunne ko mili hain." Sandeep reporter said in a shaky voice.
"Iss waqt hum Palghar main hain. Yaha ki stiti abhi bhi gambhir hain. Iss waqt ek Palghar ka hi rehne wala bujurg aadmi hamare saath hain. Woh aap sab se kuch kehna chahta hain." Reporter Sandeep said in a shaky voice.
"Namaste." The old man joined his hand; he was half-bended due to his age. He continued talking in a shaky yet soft voice, "Main yahi Palghar main rehta hoon. Main ek zaruri suchna dena chahta hoon unn maa baap ko jo shayad befhikar hoke apne ghar main baithe hain. Mera naam Afzal Ali hain. Aaj shaam ko hi 5 jawan bache Palghar aaye the. Yeh bache iss waqt Hotel Rosegad main ruke hain." He then paused and looked at reporter.
As soon as Hotel Rosegad mentioned, Madhu shake her body and stood up from the sofa. Her face had a fear; she knew that old man is talking about Piya and her friends. She went closer to the TV screen and tears started falling from her eyes. Her lips shivered and turned wet as the drop of the tear felled on her lip too.
Reporter hinted and told him to continue his talking. He hold mic along with reporter and started talking again in shaky yet soft voice, "maine unhe bahut samjhaya ke waha na jaaye. Aaj amavas ki raat hain. Unn bhooto ki shakti aaj raat aur jada tez ho jati hain, unn se ladna hum insano ki bas ki baat nahin hain." He again joined his hand and continued talking, "meri aap sab se Nevadan hain. Agar aap iss waqt mujhe apne tv pe dekh rahe hain toh iss suchna ko nazar-andaz mat kijiye. Aap ke bacho ki jaan khatre main hain. Aap yaha aa kar apne bacho ko yaha se leke jaayiye. Warna kal subah tak unki laash tak dekhne ke liye, aap ko naseeb nahi hogi."
As he ended his talk, Madhu cried loudly by taking Piya's name. She couldn't understand what to do. She sat on the floor with her back rubbing against the TV screen.
"Piya kaha ho beti? Tum kaisi ho? Kaise pata karu?" She said in cryful tone, tears were non-stop dripping. Her heart started throbbing in her chest. She couldn't hold her emotions any more. It was time for action now. She again called on Piya's number, but her number again was in non-coverage area. She tried Misha, Ruhi, Kabir and Angad's number. But same message repeated several times.
She saw Arnab coming in front of her eyes from the main door. He saw Madhu crying. He kept his black office bag on the sofa and took Madhu's name. Madhu ran towards Arnab and hugged him tightly.
She pointed index finger at the TV screen and showed the news that was broadcasting repeatedly. The old man repeated samething.
The old man in a shaky voice said, "bacho ko maine savdhan kia tha. Par woh log meri baat nahi maane aur zidd kar ke mujhe raasta puchne lage." He was talking to reporter Sandeep.
Reporter Sandeep screamed in a shaky voice, "Dekha aap ne kaise woh naadaan bache itne warning ke baad bhi bina sune hi chale gaye uss Hotel Rosegad main. Aab pata nahi waha unn ke saath kya ho raha hoga."
Arnab heard everything. Madhu was in his arm crying continuously. She said in a cryful tone, "hamari Piya Arnab. Pata nahi kya ho raha hai uss ke saath. Hummein waha chalna chahiye."
Arnab told he to stop crying and worriedly he started dialling a number. His voice worriedly said, "hello! Main Arnab Dobriyal bol raha hoon. Tumne news channel dekha?"
The another voice wasn't hearable for Madhu. She shockingly just looked at Arnab. She didn't understand with whom Arnab was talking to.
"Piya ka phone nahin lag raha hain. Bahut baar Madhu ne try kia tha uss ka number." Arnab said again worriedly by placing his hand on the forehead.
He paused and looked at Madhu by caressing her shoulder, when she was in his arms. Madhu still had tears in her eyes and lips were wet.
"Sach? Woh theek se pahuch gayi? Waha kuch khatra toh nahin hain?" Arnab happily voiced.
Madhu looked at Arnab by narrowing her eyes and her mouth partly opened when he had smile on his face.
"Theek hain. Thanks Suhas. Main Madhu ko batah deta hoon." Arnab excitedly replied by brining smile on his face.
"Kya hua Arnab? Tum Kabir ke dad se baat kar rahe the?" Madhu asked in a cryful tone.
"Haan Madhu. Suhas ne bataya Kabir se uss ki baat ho gayi thi. Woh log hotel main pahuch chuke hain aur sahi salamat hain." Arnab voiced expressing his happiness.
"Woh log sahi-salamat nahin hain. Tumne dekha nahi news channel? Woh aadmi baar-baar keh raha hain hummein Piya ko waha se nikalna hoga. Chalo Arnab?" Madhu madly voiced, she is not willing to believe that Piya is ok. Because her heart is repeatedly telling her that Piya is in danger. She needs to be saved.
"Relax Madhu. Waha mausam kharab hain. Sirf isliye hi coverage nahi mil raha hain." Arnab calmly replied by relaxing Madhu.
But Madhu wasn't willing to listen. She desperately replied, "Meri beti ki jaan khatre main hain. Aur tum mujhe relax karne ko kehte ho?"
Arnab groaned, "woh meri bhi beti hain. Jitni fhikar tumhe uss ki hain. Utna hi mujhe bhi hain."
Madhu shouts, "agar itni fhikar hain apni beti ki. Toh kuch karte kyun nahi? Hummein waha jana hoga." She frustratedly continued, "Suhas ko apne bete ki fhikar nahi hogi. Par mujhe apni beti ki fhikar hain. Isliye tum abhi issi waqt mere saath chalo." Madhu grabbed Arnab's hand and pulled forward towards front door.
Arnab tried to calm Madhu and looked at television screen. It still continuously flashes same BREAKING NEWS. This wasn't LIVE anymore. The way reporter and that old man repeated the information. He too started getting scared. Madhu again cried a lot and said to Arnab, "dekha? Abhi bhi wahi news baar-baar dekha raha hain."
Arnab's face sweated and the blood in his nerves started running faster. The fear on his face was clearly visible and Madhu's loud crying was worrying Arnab more.
Suddenly, a thought came in his mind and he started dialling a number on his mobile phone.
"Kisse call kar rahe ho?" Madhu asked panicking.
He showed his hand in front and hinted her to remain quite.
The phone was still ringing.
The caller on the other side said, "Hello!" It was a female voice, which Madhu could hear.
"Main Arnab Dobriyal bol raha hoon." Arnab said worriedly.
"Haan Arnab boliye." The female voice prompted.
"Aap ki madat chahiye." Arnab voice had a hint of urgency, which that female caller could rectify.
"Boliye kaisi madat?" The female voice prompted again.
"Aap ne news toh dekha hi hoga?" Arnab voiced innocently.
"Haan. News channel hi dekh rahi hoon kab se." Female calmly responded.
"Meri beti Palghar gayi hain. Ussi Hotel Rosegad main ruki hain." Arnab voiced worriedly in a hope that female would help him.
"Kya? Piya waha hain? Woh waha kya kar rahi hain? Kahin yeh Buddha aadmi jo baar-baar unn 5 jawan bacho ke bare main baat kar raha tha. Woh kahin Piya, Kabir, Misha, Angad aur Ruhi ke bare main toh nahi hain?" Female voice had worriedness as if she knows them very well.
"Haan." Arnab nods his head and continued in a worried tone, "Haan wahi hain."
"Oh my god! Arnab tum aise kaise kar sakte ho? Yeh jante hue ke woh Hotel main khatra hain. Piya ko waha jane kyun dia?" Female voiced angrily.
Madhu was hearing everything. She didn't understand who that lady was. Why she was so much concerned about Piya and her friends.
"Aap ko toh pata hain inn bhoot-pret pe na meri beti ne, na uss ke dosto ne, aur nahi kabhi maine vishwas kia hain. Par jab se yeh news baar-baar dekha rahe hain. Tab se bahut daar lag raha hain Piya ko leke." Arnab voiced in tension. The sweat rolled on his forehead and hopped under his eyes like a drop of tear.
"Tum mujhe yeh batao, tum mujhse chahte kya ho?" Female voiced loudly and aggressively.
"Aap ki madat. Sirf aap hain jo meri madat kar sakte hain." Arnab pleaded.
"Bhul jaao. Agar tum yeh soch rahe ho Jeh waha jaayega. Toh yeh nahi ho sakta." The female voiced angrily.
"Aisa mat kahiye, please Dipanita. Sirf aap hain jo Jeh ko mana sakte hain. Meri beti aur uss ke dosto ki jaan ko khatra hain. Sirf Jeh unhe bacha sakta hain." Arnab again pleaded.
As soon as Madhu heard Dipanita, she felt relaxed. Madhu knows her very well. She is a new family friend of Dobriyal's who just few months ago had shifted to Mumbai.
"Dekho Arnab, tum jante ho yeh Palghar case ne Jeh ka dimag kharab kar dia hain. Woh toh uss gaao ke naam se bhi gussa ho jata hain. Aise main usse iss baat ke liye raazi karna bahut mushkil hain." Dipanita apologized and regretted, as she won't be able to convince her son.
"Aap usse kahiye meri beti ki jaan ko khatra hain. Woh ek CBI officer hain. Usse apne duty ka vaasta doo. Mujhe yakin hain woh iss baat ke liye inkar nahi kar paayega." Arnab insisted.
"Theek hain. Main koshish karungi. Agar woh maan jaaye toh bahut acha, warna I'm sorry." Dipanita voiced in regression.
"Mujhe pura yakin hain. Woh zarur maanega. Aap koshish toh ki jiye?" Arnab again insisted.
"Theek hain Arnab. I'll try. Lekin main koi vaada nahin kar sakti hoon." Dipanita responded hesitantly.
Arnab is sure that Jeh will agree. He is an honest and loyal CBI officer. He can die for his country and for his people. But he would never cheat or go against his own motherland. Moreover, this quality makes Jeh different from other corrupt officers.
Madhu too became optimistic and now her only hope is Jeh.Ok. Honestly this part I enjoyed writing most. Because of reporter Sandeep, the old man, Madhu, Arnab and total positive character of Dipanita. 😛😉
