Chapter 4

It was almost noon but Veronica had not moved from her place by the
shore. She wondered what went wrong when everything seemed so
perfect...

     "Is this seat taken?" Veronica looked up and saw the guy she had
bumped into that morning. Mark... that was his name.

     "Nope, it's not."

     "Do you mind if I sit here?"

     "No, not at all. Go ahead." smiled Veronica

     "Veronica right?"

     "Yeah... Sorry again about this morning." she said, as she tucked a
stray strand of hair behind her ear, feeling slightly embarrassed.

     "Hey, it's no problem! Forget about it!" he replied as he sat beside
her.

     Veronica couldn't help but notice how nice he smelled. She turned to
look at him and realized that he was quite attractive too. His dark brown
hair complimented his misty grey eyes which went perfectly with his light
skin.

     She shook her head and faced the teacher who had already started
her lecture.

     After what seemed like ages, the bell that signaled the end of class
finally rang and all the students rushed out of the room.

     Veronica wasn't sure whether she should say bye or see ya around
but Mark beat her to it.

     "It was nice meeting you, Veronica. I'll see ya around."

     "Yeah. Same here. Cyah!"

     Veronica smiled to herself as she made her way to the cafeteria.

     "Ronnie! Over here!" Meg's voice caught Veronica's attention and she
walked to the table that Meg had already reserved for them.

     "So, how has your first day been so far?" asked Meg as Veronica sat
across her.

     "It's been okay." answered Veronica a little dreamily.

     "I know that look on your face. What happened?"

     "Nothing really."

     "Oh come on! Do I look stupid?"

     "Well --- "

     Veronica was cut off as someone approached their table.

     "Hey sis! Hi Ronnie!" It was Michael. "Mind if I join you for lunch?"

     "Like you don't everyday."

     "It's just right to ask, sis."

     "Yeah, yeah. Sit down."

     "Thank you! Yo Johnny, I found us a table!"

     "Oh hi Meg! Hey Ronnie!" smiled Johnny as he sat down.

     "Hey!" said Meg and Veronica at the same time.

     "So, you were saying something Ronnie before Michael here rudely
interrupted us."

     "It's nothing big. I just bumped into this guy this morning as I was
rushing to class and a little later, I found out that we're in the same
history class and well, he's kinda cute." Veronica felt her face blush ever
so slightly as she finished.

     "Oooh! What's his name?" inquired a curious Meg.

     "Mark."

     "There's one too many Marks at this school. Did you find out what
his last name was?"

     "Not really."

     "Aww! You'll just have to show me who he is."

     "I will. Don't worry."
