Chapter 1
First of all, hello everyone!!
I am comparatively new to this forum. And I know that modern day ramayan is a topic which many have writen ffs on. But trust me, my take on it is a lot different from them. Rest assured, the theme is same but the content may be different. The names may be similar, but the way the tale would be shaped would be completely different. I do not practice or preach plagiarism. I hope you like my version of a modern day ramayan.
Here is a character sketch of main characters:
The Raghuveers:
Dashrath Raghuveer - Strict but kind, practical yet emotional and successful yet down to earth, Dashrath is the oldest of the Raghuveers and is almost like the head of the family. He is the current MD of SuryaTech Corporation (STC) which was founded by his great-great grandfather Ikshvaku Raghuveer. He has a humble background, hailing from Ayodhya and staying currently in a villa in Delhi with his family, He can afford the luxuries of a king but strived to give to his kids a simple childhood so that the wealth doesn't get to their head. His kids growth reflect the values and maturity that Dashrath instilled in them and they grew to become amazing individuals whom we would read about in a while. He loves his children equally but he has a soft corner for his eldest son who is the most ideal son anyone could ask for in the time of Kaliyuga. He prays daily to Lord Ram and Lord Shiva for the betterment of his family, alongside his wonderful wife. He is an old man but knows how to adapt to modern scenarios. His strong moral compass is visible through his benevolence but he knows when to be strict as well. Sometimes he acts on impulse without a second thought but when he realizes his mistake, he does everything in his power to rectify it. A great man with both strengths and weaknesses alike, this is Dashrath Raghuveer, my friends.
Kailashi Raghuveer - A dutiful wife, a loving mother, a fine businesswoman but most importantly, a dynamic and visionary woman, Kailashi is the leading lady of the Raghuveer family. She is the wife of Dashrath and mother to the most amazing sons any parent could ask for. She is the head of the External Communications wing in the STC and is very shrewd in business. Remember when I said that Dashrath is almost the head of the family? It's because Kailashi is the real head, at least, that is what Dashrath feels. The world, though, has seen a completely different Kailashi than what her sons and husband know. She may seem strict and elegant from the exterior but she in reality is the complete opposite of strict with her family unless completely necessary. She is an extremely lovable and compassionate woman who complements Dashrath really well. She is very soft and nurturing with her sons, especially the eldest, just like Dashrath. When she is in a vulnerable state, although, she can be manipulated very easily. When she realizes her mistakes, she can go to any length to correct it and get over her guilt. She feels closest to Lords Ram and Lord Shiva and does their pooja everyday with Dashrath. She believes in being independent and multi-talented, she's Kailashi Raghuveer, my friends.
Kaushalya Raghuveer - She was a kind lady who died in Kedarnath floods. She was the first wife of Dashrath and bore him his eldest son. Her memory is preserved by the whole Raghuveer family.
Now the sons...
(Extra note: They went to boarding school in Panchgani as kids and then attended an engineering college in Gwalior. They did not have a wealth-filled upbringing for Dashrath wanted his sons to be grounded and humble. They never questioned his decisions, although Kailashi as a mother was skeptical. But this kind of an upbringing resulted in them turning out as fine young men who know the value of struggle and money better than ever.)
Ram Raghuveer - The perfect son, perfect brother and perfect successor to his father in business, Ram is the eldest son of Dashrath. His mother, although, is not Kailashi biologically. His biological mother was Kaushalya Raghuveer but she died in a flood when she had gone on a religious detour to Kedarnath. But that doesn't mean Kailashi doesn't like Ram. She never saw him as step-son, he never saw her as a step-mother. They shared a bond better than that of blood. He makes up a perfect combination of Kaushalya, Kailashi and Dashrath. He stands as a role model for his brothers whom he loves very dearly. A responsible and dutiful man who has great ideals and respectability, he has no care for riches and wealth if it affects his family negatively. He knows when to be serious and when not to be. He is very matured and has a great decision-making ability. There is hardly any flaw in him. His great sense of business is well-appreciated by both his parents and the workers in the company. He has a soft-corner in his heart for all of his brothers. Lord Shiva is his revered. A semblance of Lord Ram in the Kaliyug, he is Ram Raghuveer, my friends.
Bharat Raghuveer - Calm and composed, with hints of playfulness and loads of confidence, Bharat is the second son of Dashrath and Kailashi (technically first son). He looks up to Ram and feels like Ram is his life-force. While he can be a little reserved and quiet at times, once you become close to him, you would see the complete opposite, somewhat like Kailashi. He thinks that art is a great medium of expression and so he always paints to express his feelings and relieve himself of stress or tension. The whole Raghuveer villa is filled with his paintings on the walls. He cannot hide a single thing from Ram. Sometimes, its as if Ram is his personal therapist for he can be very frank with him and give him practical advice unlike his two younger brothers. He respects his parents and believes that he is meant to be responsible to pay back whatever endless love he gets from them. He is not into pranks as much, but whenever his younger brothers target him, he can very shrewdly get back at them. He doesn't like being away from Ram but he knows that the company's main responsibilities are mainly divided between them and so he takes Ram's advice and proceeds maturely, not more than a week though. Different but familial, he is Bharat Raghuveer, my friends.
Lakshman Raghuveer - An angry young man with a soft heart overflowing with devotion to his oldest brother, Lakshman is Dashrath and Kailashi's third son (technically second). He believes that his Ram Bhaiyya is supreme in all forms and will follow him to hell if he has to. He has temper issues but never for the wrong reasons. He loves his parents and respects them a lot. He even respects and loves Bharat Bhaiyya but likes pranking and teasing him a lot, along with his partner in crime, his younger brother. He is very grounded and noble, granted that the subject of his nobility deserves to see his good side. Sometimes a little more towards the childish side, he also can be serious. He plays the guitar beautifully and everyone likes to hear him play the guitar in his free time. He understands business well and always assists Ram. A devout younger brother and a deserving young man, he is Lakshman Raghuveer, my friends.
Shatrughan Raghuveer - A mischief-maker filled to the brim with optimism and positivity and exuding loads of love for his brothers, especially Ram, Shatrughan is the fourth son of Dashrath and Kailashi (technically third son). Playfulness is his second nature and he strives to be the light of the family in tense moments. His antics mainly include annoying Bharat along with Lakshman. Sometimes, they even prank Ram but he always enjoys their pranks unlike Bharat. He is a trainee in the company and only does minor assignments, but every opinion of his is very valuable. He loves his whole family but his Ram Bhaiyya, a notch higher. He plays the piano which is very unlike his chaotic personality. But whenever he plays it while Lakshman plays the guitar, the music is like paradise. If you add to that Bharat and Ram's soulful voices, then there are no words to describe the wondrous melodies. He usually initiates the brothers' music jam sessions, a way to spend their very important brother time while Dashrath and Kailashi are the audience when free. He may act childish but he is very intelligent and can do wonders when given the chance. The youngest splash of colour in the household, he is Shatrughan Raghuveer, my friends.
Now some additional main characters related to the Raghuveers...
Sumitra Sooraj - She happens to be Kailashi's younger sister and the beloved maasi of the four boys. She lives with the Raghuveers ever since her divorce with her ex-husband due to his irrational behaviour with her. She is a pacifist by nature and loves the Raghuveer family like her own. She doesn't have any biological children but the four Raghuveer children are like her own. She works as an assistant to Kailashi in the STC and her business opinions are considered of equal value to Kailashi. She has immense love for her older sister and is very grateful for whatever the Raghuveer family has give to her.
Manda Sooraj - She is Kailashi and Sumitra's bua. But ever since Sumitra's divorce, her love for Sumitra has lessened, being an orthodox stereotypical woman. She loves Kailashi a lot and always supports her. But in her eyes, Ram is like the villain of the Raghuveer family because he isn't biologically related to Kailashi. She always tries to instigate Kailashi against Ram but Kailashi never heeds to her words with Sumitra by her side another reason why Manda didn't like Sumitra as much. She believes that Bharat is the best but despite her attempts, she failed to provoke him against Ram but achieved success in inspiring a dislike for her in his heart. She never stops until she doesn't achieve her goals and she won't stop even now.
A character sketch for the second family will follow in another post.
