Meem-

The cool crisp wind of New York brushed rapidly against my checks. I started out my window and looked at all the hustle and bustle on the streets of New York. "It's the same" She thought, "Exactly, the same as I'd left it." She closed the window and quietly sat on her bed and quietly thought to herself. Why was she here? Why did she come back? Back to the city that gave her tears? Back to the city that had taken away her happiness? Back to the city that had taken away her family? Why was she back? She closed her eyes and let a tear trickle down her cheek. She thought for a bit. Maybe this city had given and taken a lot of horrible things from her and her friends but, it also gave her the 3 most precious things in her life. The city had introduced her to her father Waqas, her best friend Shazad and small part of her soul, the apple of her eye, her little boy Aryan. Aryan, was her everything and will always be her first in her line of priorities. But how can she forget all the other important people in her life. She glanced outside her window and her eyes fell upon the small picture frame lying on her desk. She smiled. It was taken about a year back. It was of her father, Shazad, Aryan and herself. Her eyes focused on shazad. She smiled he was her one true friend. In these 5 years, everyone lost contact with her but not shazad. He always stood by her right there as a friend and a father figure for her adorable Aryan. Even though New York was miles away from Virginia, Shazad always came by to meet the family. Well, her new family. Her thoughts traveled to her FAMILY, the family that abandoned her. How she loved them so much. Her step-dad, yes he'd been strict with her in the years and sometimes she did hate him for that but deep down she loved him and it killed her when she found out he had died. And her mother and little sister weren't just a few miles away like shazad, they were across the border, across the seven seas, all the way in India. Far, far away from her. Maybe this is what she got for wanting to live life in a whole new way, maybe this is what god took from in return of shazad and in return ….. "MOMMY!!!!!!!!" Aryan. The one thing she came to her mind, her precious 4 year old boy who she loved to death. She lost a lot in life, but she had her little boy who was always there to put a smile on her face.
A short little boy came running into the room wearing a white sherwani. He was simply adorable. He came and stood in front of his mom and folded his arms against his chest. Meem smiled and knelt down beside him. "Yes baby?" Aryan was a stubborn little kid he went and sat on the bed, but kept his arms crossed. Meem got up and walked over to the bed. She sat down beside Aryan and pulled him into her lap. "Now, why is my sweetheart so sad." She asked him politely. "Because you lied to me. You said that we were here for some wedding of your teacher Mr. and Mrs. Nash……" "Its Mr. Das and Ms. Nisna sweetie." She corrected him. " Mommy you and Shazu uncle are always telling me use proper language, never interrupt anyone, always listen to others when u are talking and oh yeah were was I?" The four year old scratched his head and then hit it hard. "Oh yeah, and we aren't even at no wedding. You got me all dressed up and look at you, your STILL wearing your pajama's. And you also said we would be Shazu uncle but he's not even here in this boring old place. I miss grampie and shazu uncle. When will we FINALLY go to the wedding, not just talk about it ." Meem smiled, "You smart little boy." She pulled his nose and said, "How about this, you go wait and watch TV while I'll get ready and this time I won't take long." Aryan kissed her cheek and ran out of the room. My baby she thought. My baby.
She drove at an average speed. She was excited to meet everyone but as she got closer and closer to the destination she felt as if her heart was sinking into her stomach. She was nervous on meeting everyone. Everyone would be there. Vedika, Angad and Kripa. They were all best friends at a point. She brought her car to a halt and got out of the car. She opened the back door and Aryan got out. They walked into the hall. It was filled with people. But she didn't recognize anyone. Aryan asked for Shazad but she told him to wait patiently and so he did. She looked around the room and then someone called her name.
"Meem over here"
She turned around and saw shazad. She smiled at him and Aryan ran into his arms.
"How's my big boy? Want some chocolates?"
Aryan happily took the chocolates and shazad placed him down. He looked at Meem.
"Looking awfully gorgeous tonight." He smiled at her.
"Thank you, but no need to be so formal, but you aren't looking too bad yourself. He smiled and they had a small chat on how things were going. Aryan finally spoke up. "If your boring talking is over can I have a lot to tell u shazu, please come!" Aryan dragged Shazad away and meem was left standing there alone. She spotted Mr. Das and Ms. Nisna.
" Mr.Das!" Meem ran over to them. She hugged Ms. Nisna.
"How are you guys? I can't believe you're getting married!" said Meem.
"True love always finds a way." Ms. Nisna smiled.
"Forget about us how are you?" Asked Mr.Das.
"Well I'm right her. The same old Meem. I'm better than ever. I came here to wish you both great luck on your wedding." She smiled at the couple.
"Well, we're glad to see at least one of our students are happy." Meem smiled awkwardly at Mr.Das, not understanding what he had just said. Someone called over Mr. Das and Ms. Nisna so they left leaving meem once again alone. Meem turned around and started walking over to Shazad when her eye caught Kripa. Kripa Sharma. She looked the same as before, beautiful, flawless and angelic. She walked closer to her and noticed that there was a great difference in her. For one she had red highlights in her brown hair. She still looked beautiful. It was perfectly curled. As she walked closer, she noticed something on her face, it wasn't anything physical, she could tell it was deeper. Kripa had a sad shadow over her face. Meem walked over to her and tapped her shoulder.
" Kripa?"
Kripa turned around and just looked a meem. Meem wanted to hug her but it had been so long. But, soon enough kripa took the first step and hugged her.
"Meem, it's been so long how are you?"
"I'm good, you?" replied meem
"I'm fine! What have you been up to lately?"
"The same old stuff as I have always been up to." Kripa smiled at her.
Kripa began talking about her career and such, and meem listened. She noticed an unknown loneliness in kripa's eyes she'd never noticed before. The though of kripa made her think of another old friend. Angad Khanna. Where was he? How was he? She looked at kripa and remembered everything. The hurt and betrayal she'd received from him. She smiled at Kripa.
"What happened?" Kripa questioned?
"MOMMY!!!!!!!!" Aryan was calling for meem!
"Coming!" Meem yelled back"
"Bye Kripa!" Meem walked away from there before Kripa could Question her. She walked over to Aryan and asked him what was wrong.
"Yes, sweetheart?" Meem asked.
"Where's Shazu uncle? He was right here a second ago" Meem pointed to Shazad's' direction. Aryan went over to him and smiled at the two having so much fun together. She sighed and turned around to find some old women standing next to her.
"You have a sweet little boy, is that your husband?" She said pointing to shazad.
"No, he's only a friend." Meem replied annoyed.
"Well, where's your husband?" The lady questioned.
"I was never married." Meem leaves and the lady's face goes pale.
Meem walks over to a table and takes a seat. She thinks about what the lady just said. Confidently she says to herself "I'm not afraid of people and there questions, and dirty looks anymore. This is who I am and this is my life and I am nothing but proud of it.
