Chapter 36
Lost in the crowd of our society are thousands of faces. Many we think we see, and many we think are hidden. The difference between truth and false is only our perspective. That makes you wonder…if the millions of eye…millions of perspectives….millions of truths. Which one should you believe? Who should you believe?
Angad could see the car headlights flash as the cars passes by. He stood there in front of Vedika who wasn't crying but yet sorrow and pain in her eyes. He tried again to approach her with comforting words, "Baby…what's wrong, you okay"? Vedika turn her head to a side to wipe a hidden tear. She looked back at Angad, this time with anger, "No Angad, I'm not okay…and yes something is wrong! You're the reason why everything is so wrong"!
"What are you talking about", asked Angad trying to near her. Vedika couldnt hold it in anymore. She started crying while backing away from Angad. She sat on the chair, holding her head down. "I can't believe you would do something like this Angad. How could you", she said still crying.
Angad was surprisingly still confused about what Vedika was talking about. He in his wildest dreams, or should we say nightmares wouldn't have imagined Vedika finding out about Kripa. But he needed to find out, it was killing him to see Vedika…his Vedika cry like this. Her sorrow and pain was unbearable for him. He knelt down in front of Vedika and held her hand. "Vedika, I need you to talk to me. If I did something wrong then tell me", he begged. Vedika look at Angad and though enough of his drama.
"Angad, why did you do to New York?"
"What you mean? I told you before I left…I had some stuff to take care of", replied Angad. Now, it was getting clear to Angad. Vedika had found out.
Vedika gave a fake laugh and asked, "Did your stuff have to do with Kripa by any chance?"
There is was…out in the open. Angad hadn't thought for a second about telling Vedika about Kripa. Honestly, what was the use? Angad did have a relationship with Kripa, but after he met Vedika again that relationship with only for name. The truth was the Angad was never with Kripa, he heart and soul had always been where ever Vedika was. The truth was that at this moment, Angad hated Kripa. He knew Kripa had nothing to do with anything, but if she wasn't in the picture, Vedika…his Vedika wouldn't be mad and in pain right now.
"Vedika…I broke up with Kripa", Angad assured Vedika. Vedika got up from the chair and walked away from Angad. "That means it true, you did…Angad you not only cheated Kripa, you cheated me too", exclaimed Vedika.
"No…no, I can never cheat you Vedika. I love you", Angad said.
Vedika started crying again, "Angad, do you know how horrible I feel right now? I…I helped you cheat on Kripa! I feel like such a **** and its because of you!"
"Love, its not your fault. It was my mistake…Kripa and everything with Kripa was my mistake not yours". Angad moved closer to Vedika who was still crying. "Angad, do you know how bad I felt when Shazad told me all this. I felt so bad, I felt as if I was the reason why Kripa was going through all this", said Vedika
Angad thought process had ended there for a minute. Who the hell was Shazad to call up Vedika…his Vedika and say all this crap. Shazad was damn lucky he lived miles away because, Angad was just about ready to kill him. He hated Shazad right now. " Who cares about Shazad Vedika! Who cares about Kripa! Vedika all I care about is you and us. Everything and everyone else can go to hell for all I care. Kripa meant nothing Vedika. She's my friend, I feel guilty I wont deny it, but…".
"That's not the point Angad. The point is what you did was so wrong, and now I feel wrong too. Angad…when we slept together I thought it was so right, that it was so perfect. And now, I have to be ashamed about it, now I have to be disgusted about it", cried out Vedika.
"Vedika, anything that has to do with you and me can never be wrong, its always right because, us together is always right", yelled out Angad.
Vedika opened the door and stepped aside, "Please leave Angad. Right now, I need you too leave".
Angad walked to the door and looked at Vedika one last time and pleaded, "Vedika if somewhere in your heart you loved me for even a second please forgive me. Just give me one chance Vedika. Give us one chance". Saying so, Angad left and Vedika closed the door.
Kripa was locked in her room all night crying. Thousands of thought flew through her mind. Was she too blame? Was she the reason why Angad cheated on her? There to be something wrong wither her. Kripa realized that no one loved her. Her mom, her dad, Angad…none of them loved her. They couldn't all be wrong…there had to be something about her that made everyone not love her. The had to be some sort of birth defect or something. Was she unlovable? Sat laid in her bed crying even more…she was unlovable. What was she doing here then? In this world of love. Kripa felt so lost. Like a child crying for her mother when she's lost at the carnival, only Kripa hadn't just lost her mother…she lost herself.
Kripa then heard something. At first it scared her. So now what, was someone going to murder her too? Mote as well and get this pathetic life over with. She must have been a really bad person in her past life to deserve this, like really evil. Kripa side kick started to flash. There was a text message from Shazad.
PunjabiKiller25- Open your damn window, I've been throwing rocks for the past hour!
Kripa immediately looked out the window, and saw Shazad waiting with a ladder? That statement just became a question in Kripa's mind. What was he doing with a ladder? Kripa opened the window, and Shazad climbed up.
"Shazad, what the hell are you doing", asked Kripa wiping away the tears. Shazad sat on Kripa's window ledge and held the ladder making sure it didn't fall, "I'm to take you away". "Take me where", asked Kripa. Shazad took a breath and explained it to Kripa, "See, there's this new club opening tonight, ad we're going. I got in the DJ and he'll let us in for free".
"Shazad, I'm really not in the mood", replied Kripa. In no way was she in the mood to party tonight.
Shazad on the other hand wasn't going to take that for an answer, "I'm sorry, I did ask you if you wanted to go or not? Did I mistakenly make it sound like a cared about your mood, because I don't. We are going, that's that"!
Kripa finally gave in to Shazad persuasion. "Okay fine, Ill get ready". "Cool", said Shazad still sitting my the ledge. Kripa gave Shazad a look, "What? You think I'm going to change in front of you", Kripa asked.
"Well I really wouldn't mind…"
"Ew", exclaimed Kripa she practically pushed Shazad down.
"Okay, but if your not down by 5 minutes, I'm coming back up. So hurry, your female honor shit in at stake", Shazad said while declining from the window. Kripa got dressed in exactly five minutes and simple used the door the leave the house. She met up with Shazad, who was still looking up at the window waiting for Kripa.
"Shazad why didn't you just use the door? My parents really wouldn't care you know", said Kripa as they headed for Shazad's car. Shazad looked stumped, as had totally forgotten about the door. He felt so damn stupid that he wondered if he really was in college or not. "Well…if more fun using the ladder. You feel like Romeo", clarified Shazad.
"Babe, Romeo never used a ladder", said Kripa in the car.
"Whatever, Romeo Rupunzel same thing", replied Shazad. Kripa let out a laugh, "Rupunzel used her hair you idiot!".
Shazad felt agitated now, "Same f***ing difference, god damn. I need a drink!"
NEXT MORNING--
Meem was in her class. Bio- Chemistry was such a boring subject. It reminded her of Shazad though. In high school, whenever Shazad was in nay class he didn't enjoy, eh always fantasize about when he became president he would ban it. It was so silly, so funny and right now Meem wish so hard that Shazad was president and really did ban this stupid subject that was making her fall asleep the sleepy guy next to her.
After class Meem went to get a bite to eat, meeting up with her recently declared stalker Hussein. "I swear, can you believe they made coffee two dollars now", complained Meem while buying her coffee. "I mean, really…if I were president I would…crap!". Hussein looked at Meem in confusion, "Huh", he asked. "Nothing, I'm talking like a freak I used to now", said Meem taking a seat near the campus lake. "Meem, chill out…well you cant considering your drink coffee, but anyways", said Hussein trying to catch his breath.
"So what's up", asked Meem. Hussein moved closer to Meem and said, "Nothing…lately I've been trying to convince this very pretty girl to go out with me but she keeps saying no". Meem decided to humor Hussein. "Really? Well that's too bad Hussein…maybe you should just get the picture and stop asking her. She's clearly not interested".
" Well I think she's just scared", replied Hussein. Meem let out a laughed, "Of what?". Hussein, sounding very intelligent explained, "I think she's afraid she'll fall in love with me. I have that effect on girls…you should know, you love me too". Meem turned her head. "Love is a very strong word Hussein, you should be careful while using it", she said.
"Well, I'm not asking you to fall in love with me, I'm simply asking to go out for dinner with me", yelled out Hussein. Meem sighed and looked at Hussein. "If a say yes, then will you stop bugging me", she asked.
" I promise, I'll even carry OFF with me", he said in a hopeful tone. Meem thought for a minute and then looked at Hussein, "Fine". Hussein couldn't believe it, Meem had said yes! She said YES! He felt as if she said yes to marry her or something. "Great, so tonight 7 sharp. I'll pick you from our regular meeting spot", said Hussein while running off to his next class. Meem rolled her eyes, "What am I getting myself into?"
Kripa and Shazad were laying down on Shazad's bed in his apartment drinking some juice that was to help their hang over. "So, yesterday was fun", said Shazad still half asleep. "Yeah…it was. The DJ There is really good…I mean with his music of course", replied Kripa.
"My head hurts, I missed like 500 of my classes today", said Shazad as he groaned over his head ache.
"Me too…Shazad?"
"Hmm"
" I really loved Angad", Kripa said on the verge to cry.
"God Kripa, let it go! Forget about him, its no big deal", answered Shazad sick of Kripa's Angad talk. Kripa started crying for sure now. "I cant help it, it hurts". Shazad let out a sigh, "Look…I loved Meem too, but that's what life is. You cant stick with the past, you have to move on. Guys the mean like that, you have to accept it", explained Shazad.
"I guess…I need to pee, move", said Kripa moving Shazad aside.
"The bathrooms on the left" yelled out Shazad.
BOSTON---
Angad met up with Vedika at her dorm room. He brought coffee and her favorite donuts for her too. The very cute, chocolate ones with heart shaped sprinkles on it. Vedika came out of the bathroom, and simply ignored Angad.
"Vedika, please just talk to me…I really am sorry", begged Angad. Vedika was giving Angad the silent treatment now. "Vedika!", yelled out Angad.
"Don't yell at me Angad", snapped Vedika. Angad held Vedika's hands and pulled her close to him. He slowly caressed her cheeks, and held her waist with the other hand. "Baby, just one chance…please", said Angad. He could feel his eye's getting numb. He loved Vedika, more than anything in this world. Having her angry at him was like ripping his heart into two. "Angad, I have class…and so do you", replied Vedika coldly as she moved away from Angad.
All day, Angad couldn't concentrate on a thing in any of his classes. All he thought about was Vedika, and how much he needed her right now. How much he loved her. He stole glimpsed of her throughout the day.
That night, it was raining very heavily. Vedika was in her room looking through her notes for an exam tomorrow. Her mind wasn't on the exam. She really missed Angad, she missed him like hell. Vedika wanted so badly to forgive him, and yet wanted so badly to stay angry at him. She wasn't the type of girl who would let someone play her like this, and yet she didn't want to be the girl who would let the love of her life go like this. What was the right thing to do she thought? What would stop making her feel so horrible. Being with Angad meant living with guilt. She really did feel bad for Kripa, and the fact the she was partly a reason for her pain made it worse. But being away from Angad meant…everything bad she could think of. She believed Angad, she knew he hadn't meant for things to turn out like this, and yet how could she just let it pass?
Outside in the rain was Angad, waiting in front of Vedika's window just for one glimpse of her. He waited there in the cold, freeing half to death. Yet he didn't move, he just needed one look of Vedika. Just to know she was okay. After a while, Angad left without seeing Vedika. Vedika on the other hand, was watching Angad the whole time. It broke her heart to see her Angad in such a state.
Angad was now in his dorm room, sitting on his bed soaking wet. He couldn't take Vedika being angry at him, not right now when practically the whole entire world hated him. His heart just couldn't take all this hate at once. The door crept open. "Who' there", asked Angad getting up. It was Vedika, she came stomping in, put a bowl of soup down and handed Angad a towel. "You think making yourself sick will make me feel any better", she asked. Angad ran to Vedika, and she moved back. "Angad…I know you didn't mean whatever happened but…it did", she said.
"I know Vedika, but just give me one chance", pleaded Angad. "I will…I love you Angad, and I really wanted to give you a chance but not right now. I just need time to let all this sink in…I just. I feel really bad right now, and I just need some time and…", Vedika ranting was interrupted by Angad who put his finger on her lips. "You don't need to explain Vedika. I understand what I need isn't something you can forget so fast. I'll be right here waiting for you…I love you", he said.
Vedika smiled, "Okay…enjoy the soup", she said as she left, closing the door behind her.
NEW YORK----
"Well how did you enjoy our date", asked Hussein walking my the lake with Meem. They had just finished their date and were walking around the lake now. "It wasn't a date, it was dinner", corrected Meem. "Whatever dinner, date. Whether you had a good time or not is all that matters", replied Hussein.
"I did, I had a very good time", said Meem holding Hussein's arm. Hussein looked happy, "So is there any chance of repeating our dinner/date?"
Meem was just about to answer that when her father called her asking her if her "late class" was over yet. "Crap Hussein, I have to go", exclaimed Meem. She kissed Hussein on a the cheek and was about the leave when Hussein pulled her into his arms and kissed her. Meem laughed, and returned the kiss. "I have to go", said Meem still holding Hussein. Hussein kissed her again and said, "Okay. But where does this leave us?"
Meem smiled. "This leaves us at…us", she answered. "US", repeated Hussein. "I like the sound of that", he added.
"Surprisingly, me too", said Meem before giving Hussein a final kiss. Then she ran into her car and drove home.
Kripa was sitting at the park watching the full moon. It looked so pretty, so complete. Kripa longed so much to feel complete, to feel whole. That was all she wanted. Shazad interrupted her thought process by throwing a basketball at her. He then sat next her and watched the moon too. To be honest, he thought I was pretty stupid to be watching the moon, he'd much rather be watch the game on TV.
"You know this is where Angad and I first got together", said Kripa. Shazad nodded, "You know this is where Meem and I broke up". Kripa looked at Shazad and laughed.
"Love sucks" said Kripa.
"NO…Angad is the one who sucks", relied Kripa.
"Yeah…that's true. So does Meem"
"Yeah. Why did we date them again?"
"I don't know. We were young. We were stupid"
"True. You know Kripa, I don't know what I'd do without you"
"Right back at Ya"
Kripa looked at Shazad and made gave him a high five. "Best friends for life", said Kripa. "Totally, now lets braid each others hair", replied Shazad.
"I think your hair is too small for that", said Kripa.
"What you talking about. Your just discriminating me for being a boy", complained Shazad.
"No I'm not"
"Yes you are"
"No"
"Yes"
And they continued on…
BOSTON----
Late that night, Vedika heard a knock at her dorm door. She lazily got out of bed and opened it, to see none other than Angad. He looked like he didn't get any sleep all night. "What is it", yawned out Vedika.
"Vedika, I know I said I'd wait for you, but…the truth is that I don't want too. I want for us to be together now, I cant live with you being away from me anymore Vedika, its unbearable".
Angad kept on with this declaration of love to Vedika. Vedika just stared at him the entire time. Angad finished and waited for any kind of response form Vedika. After a minute for so she asked, "Do you want to come in?"
"Yes", replied Angad
Vedika took Angad's hand and they walked in the room, closing the door on their way in.
To be continued…
